If all 3 pugs are camping the LZ and using only hard cover then you should just leave because they have no clue what they're doing.
Or you can have a bit of fun with them...
Go down to where the cross hair are and occupy that spot, that forces the spawns onto the upper level of the map. Watch what their reactions are as everything rush the LZ from their flanks.
Generally I prefer fighting in the control room.

Pugs and hold the line... Last night was hosting Platinum Ghost and these 2 pugs decide to hold the LZ at any cost...easy to say that cost them their lifeIt's one of the worst LZ's to hold IMO
One of my first Platinum matches was on Firebase Ghost against Reapers. I was playing the Demolisher with Typhoon I, we had a Drell Adept with the Pirahna, one GI with the Falcon and one GI with the Claymore.
We never left the extraction area (basically stayed next to the ammo box) except for objectives, and we never used our rockets unless it was an objective. Took us 18 minutes for a full extraction.
Now, I've never had a team that I could repeat that with, mostly because all "smart" people keep thinking that it would be suicide to stay there when it is in fact quite easy to defend. If all of you stay there and focus fire together then it will be one of the easiest and fastest Platinum games of your life. Nuke a few spawns every now and then and you will probably get it done in 12 minutes or less.
I'm not saying it is wrong to run around the map and kill things if you have bad players in your team, but with decent players you should be able to stay put. If those two pugs that you are describing were decent then I would say that it was you who made them die

The other spawnpoints are farther away so the PUGs have a chance to out-DPS incoming enemies.

holding LZ on hydra is hard but feasible
Not even that hard if you have a decent team, although pugs with low level weapons and no equipment is not the way to go

The real spot to hold is the crate of destiny.

Ooh! Ooh! I know the answer to this, OP!!!
It's...
Working as intended.
It's nice to see some variety and enthusiasm in the "working as intended" occasionally

There is no ammo box on the LZ. He's talking about the actual LZ, not areas nearby.
And 12 minutes is utter BS.
