I still want and love the one-on-one conversations in every BioWare game. I really do. But I was wondering why there are never really group-talking scenes. Where, using DA2 characters because I know those people, Aveline, Fenris, Merrill, and Varric are all equal contributors to the conversation with Hawke.
Some times we get small scenes (Anders blowing up the Chantry leads to one where we hear everyone give a sentence or two) but never really hanging as a group.
Is it just because the sheer mechanics of a thing is mind-numbing? I mean writing branching dialogue with 4-5 characters would be... well I wouldn't want to do it.
...but I would like to play it.

I think it gets kind of impossible if you've got a bunch of optional or killable companions. Otherwise you end up having to record loads and loads of redundant dialogue so that things will work even for Antisocial Cousland who decided to stop the blight with only his dog and Alistair.
The best you're realistically going to get is probably to base the conversation around the non-optional guys and try to weave in some stuff from the optional ones. Or maybe something like the party in the Citadel DLC where you get a lot of stuff that is dependant on who is there but not really much control over Shepard.
