So my N7 ranking is 420 (11k challenge points). I  promoted a bit early on mainly due to not having respec cards and wanting to re-do points on some characters.  I have no interest in attaining a BOTB banner.  But, with all the talk of judging people who join pugs with low points, I wonder if I should just do a mass promotion to bump this up? Is 420 decent enough (to not get laughed at)?

Lol, yeah it's fine. Most people look at challenge points these days anyways. I stopped promoting back in October, my N7 is 960. Promoting sucks unless you have no respec cards.

If you get kicked because of low N7 then you probably did now want to play with those idiots anyway. I did get accused of cheating, however, since I have a maxed manifest with a low N7, but its no big deal.

Don´t bother. You can basically take your pick if you´re going to get kicked for your N7 rating being too high or too low.

There is no reason to promote if not respeccing or going after BotB, imo.

Meh - I've got about 2800 N7 points IIRC though a mix of weekend promotion challenges, not having any respec cards (before they were moved to the uncommon pool) and wanting to chalk of N7 Mastery to get BotB - and I've never promoted since getting the BotB banner.

Anyone who judges you entirely on N7 rating is ... now, what's the phrase, a fool and should be eaten ;)

Mine too is 420 and has been for over a year. I don't care about banners and challenges and i don't get kicked over it so i leave it this way. Like you i promoted only to respec characters. N7 ranking does not mean that you are a great or a bad player. It only shows that you either like changing builds or you are into challenges (or both)...

If you take N7 rank seriously, then yes. Most BSNers/Advanced Players don't care about it.
I still promote often, and normally only keep one class at Lv 20, to be ready whenever I wanna do some Plat.
Honestly I don't think getting 60 promotions is a pain at all. Character cards will drop commonly whenever you go to a shopping spree. And there is always the Recruit Packs with a guaranteed character card whenever you are in a hurry to level up. Several kits won't have any trouble doing Gold at low levels.

Well, I'm curious what your reasons are for promoting so often, then?  To get the banner?  To respec? For godly N7 rank?  ...?

Promote and relevel classes because it's fun, or don't because it isn't.

I have the Banner. Respec helps me a lot, definitely. Godly N7 Rank? Hmm.. that wouldn't hurt.
Also a Godly Military Strenght in SP wouldn't be a bad thing (I haven't touch any DLC not even From Ashes, I am inclined to get back to SP campaign, only the idea of paying 55 bucks for all extras holds me back).

On the top of all that, Character cards are common and I like making use of them. You are possibly going to get all classes to level 8+ after a shopping spree. At that level Gold won't be a problem and you can get to 16+ in no time. So why not?

If you have a low N7 rating but have good guns and equip consummables I assume you are good to play with.

If you have a low N7, suspect guns and equip nothing but gear I assume the game will be poor. N7 420 is high enough to let most people know you have played the game enough to know what is going on.

I still promote, but only because I want 50 promotions with all classes (at 42 now all classes lol).

N7 420 and 11kCP isn't anything to raise eyebrows over. As long as your loadout doesn't look completely retarded, and you've got consumables on, you should be fine.

It's not that big a deal. I'm still at 180, and get kick votes every now and then from some players who don't know any better. I wouldn't want to play with someone who assumed I sucked based on that anyway.

then i'd not promote. the loadout is most important and after that Challenge points can be a sign of a good player, but only if 15k or above i'd say. otherwise lot's of playing can do the same^^

Really N7 doesn't matter as much as good gear/weapons, consumables, and knowledge of the game. If you're 400+ and people kick you, think of it as a favour, as they are probably terrible players.

There's nothing wrong with promoting or choosing not to promote.

I personally promote because I like to feel like I'm achieving something (stuck with a lvl 20 character makes me feel restless - but that's an entirely personal thing).

Also I've never bothered with respec cards - I think they're more useless junk cluttering up the troll store, so I've never used one after I maxed them out in my first week of playing.

But it's all down to personal preference. Mix it up - one week promote and the next week don't.

Woops, another thing to add is that having a high N7 can add pressure. People assume I'm awesome and can carry PUGs blind-folded when I'm actually pretty crap - just something to think about.

You're probably best not playing with any fools who judge you based solely on N7 rank anyway. So, promote or don't, grind challenges or not, just play however you want.

I would guess, you got kicked because of your high N/ and not using Equipment, this days it is also no big dieal to play with <N7 100....

Haha same here!

Also, @ thread starter - I personally don't think your N7 rank has any influence on whether people choose to kick you. I get kicked out of games very frequently, it happens very often (the vast majority of these happen to be noob platinum lobbies, which is strange). And guess what? I have an N7 over 16,000, CP over 39,000, botb banner and I have all my ultra rares maxed out, and I always put on consumables before I ready up. And I get kicked very frequently like I said. There are a lot of young children and immature people who play MP, I think they just get a kick out of kicking people, and I don't think it has anything to do with your N7 rank.
