Looking back at Dragon Age 2

How would you change the three classes (warrior, rogue, mage)?
Would you add any classes?

Discuss.

- Warrior
Polearms/Bows.
More party buff talents such as Rally.
More talents which do not depend specifically on weapon choice, such as Assail.

- Rogue
Rapiers/Whips.
The ability to set traps.
Better animations for Dual Wield Rogues - you should not be facing your target all the time.
If a Rogue in the party is capable of detecting traps, other companions should avoid traps automatically.

- Mage
Summons/Shapeshifting.
More short range attack spells such as Cone of Cold.
Spirit Healer should be more offense oriented but less indestructible.

Warriors need a ranged option, and a specialisation that fits disciplined warriors that isn't Templar.

Rogues need the ability to kick people in the private parts back.

-Rogues: use of main hand sword/mace/axe plus dagger in offhand, like in DAO. Going full daggers should be an option, not mandatory.
-Warriors: get stamina like rogues, not only for every kill. Polearms like halberds.
-Mages: an option to magically buff itself and their melee attacks, still using staves. A sort of arcane warrior for everyone and not just some ancient elven order. Similar to the enhancement shaman in wow.

I'd eliminate all of the weapon restrictions for all classes.

I'd remove those absurd auto-attack animations for mages.

I'd make weapons optional for mages.

I'd give mages more crowd control options.

I would eliminate any taunting abilities from warriors.

I would make Rogues' backstab abilities contingent on positioning, rather than having them move behind their opponents automatically.

Bring back Arcane Warrior and/or Spirit Warrior and I'd be happy.

I wouldn't mind lockpicking options for the other classes either, so we don't have to always have a rogue in the party. Less effective than a rogue's, obviously, maybe being a talent or part of a specialization.

bring back warrior dual wielding, give them a knight type advanced class that isn't Templar, and archery.

bring back positioning for back stabs and the face stabs build for rogues.

Arcane warrior for mages :D

I'd allow any class to spec into any weapon, use any armour, and separate the class-defining mechanics into class-specific trees and specializations.

If that systems turns out to be difficult to balance, then good; coming up with unusual combinations and seeing how different mechanics work together is most of the fun in building a character. It's so easy to make a good character and so hard to do anything unusual that the whole system was almost redundant in DA2, might as well just give me my pre-made [weapon type][class] and be done with it.

I'd like a rogue to be able to stealth into a pack of enemies and start flailing around with a 2h sword, or have a mage competent enough with sword&shield to get into the fray and use some of their radius attacks (ideally, without having to sheath / unsheath their weapon each time).

And more specializations, maybe some cross-class specializations too (bard, reaver, etc). Probably just one per character though.

I want better options for warrior it was the most boring class in DA2 by far. it needs more attacks. also I want the dual weapon skill to allow two swords like in DAO.
and different specializations for warrior seriously bioware mix it up

A lot of these complaints (like, remove class restricted armor) aren't about the class itself but rather about how the game mechanics respond to the classes.

In regards to the classes themselves, I'd like there to be a half-class in between each one, like Mass Effect. I'd have a whole new level of fun playing a magish rogue, or a warrior-ish rogue.

Weapons.

Rogues: dagger, curved swords, and bows (+ the ability to switch weapon from dagger to bow easily on the run, depending on the distance).

Rogues/Warriors: crossbows (+ the ability to dual wield light crossbows), rapiers, bucklers.

Warriors: swords, axes, shields, greatswords (with the ability to one-wield it with the required Strength + a shield), greataxe (+ the ability to dual wield it)

Rogue/Mage: whips, magical polearms + the ability to wield a shield with a required stat.

Rogue/Warrior: fist weapons or blunt weapons, massive magical hammers.

Mage: staves for right hand and different abilities for left hand (from shield to another source of magic).

Basically, look at Dark Souls! It has great weapon diversity. Every weapon has its own animation, stat & all, and you can use ANY weapon to beat the game. You have to find the weapon with a moveset you like and go on.

I vote for one versatile class, instead of this antiquated trio.

Just something like higher base willpower or lower stamina costs would do it. Warriors were amazingly resource starved in both games with the conventional strength/dex builds.

Give archer rogues proper set of shots and stances - and I'll be fine. And, probably, get archery back to warriors as well. Because 4 shots of which 2 are aoe, 1 has looong CD and another 1 is next to useless.....that was very unexpected, really. Even Diablo 2 had more options for a girl with a bow.

Couldn't agree more with this - after playing Skyrim, I have become a very happy Spellsword with a bit of Rogue thrown in.  After sneaking in past their traps and gates, I hit them with Firebolt then swipe them with a blade.  Works for me. :D

I wouldn't mind having specialisations that blurr the lines between the classes.

Arcane Warrior returning for Mages

Interceptor being a rogue esque option for warriors.

Legionnaire (a tanky option for rogues) returning for rogues.

Warriors should be able to wield bows as it was back in Origins, not to mention their Archery tree should be unique. The same could be said for dual-wielding. The addition of polearms would prove to be most excellent as well.

Meanwhile, Rogues shouldn't be forced to dual-wield daggers - allow us to equip a different weapon in our main hand.

Lastly, Mages should be able to cast with their own hands and mustn't be penalized across the board for it - make it different but not less effective.

A warrior in my opinion should have access to be proficient in any type of weapon. In fact I think any class should have access to be profecient in any type of weapon. A class should not constitute the weapon to use that is limiting. How about people that want to play a double wielding mage? A rogue who could disarm traps but is also good with a stick? Give people access to every weapon but classes should attatch benefits to go with that weapon. The dragon age system is a bit limiting.

I would actually prefer something like Dragon's Dogma, with the three classes and more combination of the classes
