DA:O had very little in the terms of a "Marketing Protagonist" save for that Lance Armstrong looking guy that was used in the trailers, but within the character creation you were unable to emulate his look anyway.

DA:2 had a more Mass Effect approach to character creation, with a male and female protagonist each with distinctive looks, but beard Hawke was used in trailers so we'll assume that beard Hawke was utilized as the main Marketing Protagonist.

How would you like the inquisitor to be handled? We have very little information as of yet, and personally I prefer it this way. I know that Bioware is moving towards cosplay-friendly character designs, which I am with with for companions, but I would prefer that the Inquisitor remain of ambiguous gender throughout the marketing push.

The recent promotional banners for Inquisition have a hooded, anonymous figure holding a sweet-looking dragon sword. This is a good look, and the dude that looks like he's tripping acid in the middle of a sandstorm in the official trailer is also decidedly... anonymous. I think it's a good look for the protagonist, myself.

In which way would you like the appearance of the marketing protagonist to be handled?

I like the ambiguous angle myself. Never actually showing a specific protagonist is kinda cool. I like the idea of a protagonist with an aura of mystery.

I would like to see BioWare return to the style they used with Origins. Marketing a protagonist seems silly to me when one of the game's points is to create and shape your own character.

If they are make it blurred, shady, or put a hood around the face

Do you think it'd be an interesting or awful spin if you never saw the PC's face?

Continuing from what I said before, this.

Not showing the protagonist would be a good idea.
Or show both female/male.

Or...

I don't really care. Marketing is marketing and showing off a protagonist isn't going to rustle my jimmies

I don't think they are going to market the protagonist going by what Aaryn said in an interview (he said the Inquisitor wasn't a stock character). I suspect we will get mostly NPCs in our marketing.

I had a thread on marketing the game a few months back. Can't find it now. Since the protagonist can look like anybody, makes more sense to just market the game.

Same. As long as IN THE GAME your actual decisions and palyer agency are equivalent to DAO, they could market the Inquisitor as Commander Hawkward for all I care. My jimmies would also remain thoroughly unrustled.

The character used for marketing should be male.

Some will complain no matter what BIoWare does and others are indifferent to it all. Some want no face to be shown or it cloaked in some ways and others want (if BioWare shows a face) both genders equally represented.

In other words BIoWare is damned no matter what they do because some group will be unhappy.

I fall into being indifferent because it doesn't really matter to me.

Actually most people here want a neutral cover (like DAO). There was a thread about female protagonists in covers and I was surprised to see so many people wanting no protagonist in the DAI cover.

You'd be surprised how much of a minority BSN is.

I don't think people outside of BSN will complain about cover. They will buy the game no matter what, if they know about DA.

Ambiguous without a clear protagonist or marketing the default of both genders would be fine for me.

The protagonist should remain vague, his/her gender not even obvious. Marketing should focus on the world and the characters!

I think one will have learn to ignore covers and other game marketing, if one haven't already.
It always comes downt to that the game has to deliver.
Do covers sell games? I don't know. Unless we're counting Japanese games with sexy women in snug outfits, I kinda doubt it. I think the marketing effect is more like an advertizing effect. See it often and everywhere, like.

Makes you think why there are so many bad marketing people in videogaming?
Hawke for instance, just the name is groan-worthy. Then those silly red stripes. Is he supposed to do some war painting gesture with blood? Is that supposed to be badass?

And I just gotta love to know what the Microsoft people were saying and telling each other, when they came up with that VHS look, the name "One", and then went all out, to downplay games and heavily emphasize TV. I mean, - what were they thinking?

Having the protagonist presented in a very vague way, like just a silhuett or shadow, could be cool. And would also serve the purpose of being representative for everybody's protagonist.

Either keep the look of the protagonist shrouded in mystery, or... show trailers where the protagonist frequently changes, Male or female, different weapons and abilities, and different looks.

...If using the latter it might seem a bit weird if all the characters use the same voice actor though. (which is actually one major complaint I have with voiced protagonists in general, it always seem weird when you make a second character and notice that they have the exact same voice as your previous one from another playthrough)

Reminder that DA:O had posters for all origins that featured different races and genders.

And there were trailers with different genders and races too, introducing each origin.

And nobody was confused, and everybody was happy! It was pretty awesome!
