My fellow forumites,

I never thought I'd say something like this in a Bioware forum, but DA:I's multiplayer could be the main selling point of the game for me. Having enjoyed ME3's MP thoroughly, looking for a similar experience with a different flavor, and knowing that DA:I will have an MP element beyond a reasonable doubt, I am very interested to see how the next MP will work out. So, this is a thread to discuss MP in DA3-how it could work, ayes and nays, what could be done and should be done.

Now, I am aware that many forumites have a rather negative outlook on MP as a whole. I will not judge you too harshly because I had a similar attitude prior to ME3. "I want SP, not MP," "MP will ruin SP," "MP will detract from the overall enjoyability of the game," yadda yadda.  I honestly thought ME3's MP was going to be laughably terrible. For one, I had no idea how it would work and remain recognizable to ME, without things such as plot, time dilation abilities, and so forth. While the transition was far from seamless, I was impressed with how well the ME universe had been adapted for MP. Moving on from my conversion from MP hater to MP supporter, let's discuss the meat of it.

This is what we know so far:
DA:I will more than likely have an MP element in some form or way. [1] [2] (2 is sketchy)

DA:I MIGHT have PvP. [1] (Sketchy)

What we don't:

Everything else.

Discuss away!

Also, if you find sources that you think should be here, please bring it to my attention.

If any multiplayer that may or may not be included turns out like the MP for ME3, then I will have no problem with it. Especially if the singleplayer is very good. I just hope any MP isn't just some tack on modes just to have MP in the game.

Being one of the BSN'ers who were skeptical about multiplayer being in Mass Effect 3 only to find myself in love with it later on makes me very interested in what BioWare comes up in that department for Inquisition.

I didn't play ME3 multiplayer, but I'm not allergic to the thought of it like many people on these forums. I understand how software (and games, in particular) are funded and created so I know that multiplayer doesn't "take away" from single player.

I'd be interested in DA:I multiplayer if I can take my single player character as is and compete with him or her online.

Essentially, I'd like a good single player BioWare game with the added ability to take my character online once I finished the single player campaign.

To use Origins as an example, it was pretty disheartening to finally finish my Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage build right as I began the assault on Fort Drakon. That gives me, what, 30 minutes to revel in my carefully planned out build now that it has finally come to fruition? Should I feel rewarded for saving up the gold for Andruil’s Blessing, Lifegiver, The Spellward, and Evon the Great’s Mail for this half and hour jaunt?

If I could take that character online, however...

So long as it's not some sort of "You must play Multiplayer to get the best ending/items in Singleplayer", I'm fine with it.

yeaaaa.... i dont think DA should be multiplayer just because ME turned out ok doesn't mean the same thing for DA its a totally different game dragon age should remain a single player

Mass Effect isn't the only example. Baldur's Gate has multiplayer too and it's much more similar to Dragon Age than ME is.

I liked ME3's multiplayer, but I'm not really sure how they could make DA's combat multiplayer friendly. Mass Effect was already a shooter, which made adapting it relatively simple.

While the BG series had multiplayer, it's not a multiplayer that would do good in today's game market in my opinion so it would make coming up with a decent MP experience for DA:I much harder I think.

Give each race a certain warrior/rogue/mage build.

I have no idea what the MP would look like so I can't really comment aside from saying that I'd prefer a co-op former of game play where friends can take control of my companions, outside of that I have no interest in another horde mode or PvP.

And for pete's sake let's keep away from affecting SP, if it's fun enough to stand on it's own should draw people in without that sort of gimmick.

How about a Lost Planet 2 style game play?

Is this a viral marketing thread?

Seriously: I think they're going to be very cautious about MP. They've stated as lately as at E3 that they're definitly focusing on the singleplayer experience. That doesn't mean that some kind of MP can't work, though. But I'm too unimaginative to see it. Now.

I've never played MP in ME and I probably wouldn't in DA either but I'm not against including it for those who like to play it.

I also had a great time with the ME3 MP and still play it from time to time. This trailer for the biggest chunk of free dlc for it actually got me excited about Mass Effect again after I had been put off by the endings. For a DA MP, getting to play different races/unique classes would be a selling point for me since we will only be able to play as a human in the single player. A 'Mage vs Templars' mode would be fun for the folks who argue endlessly over this topic. I usually prefer co-op modes, but this pvp would be a hoot!

Indeed.

MP ion DA3 means automatic no-buy for me.   I haven't enough trust  left for it.

Dragon age 3's MP could give us the option to not only play as a different race, but play as class specialties brought into the more modern age.

Think of it. A tevinter magister, a elven arcane warrior, a dwarven legionnaire, qunari seerabas or karasten, and a whole host of other combinations and styles. You could play them on a whole different level than you did before, and get expansions on their lore by seeing unique moves they would bring to the battle and their roles in fighting.

Of course, there's always the risk that it would be a dynasty warriors clone, but that's frankly a risk I'm willing to take.
