I have come across a bug regarding the kidnapping of Boo in Unfinished Business v 19.

USS Norway has been helping me with it in the no-reloads thread, but I thought it would be best with a topic of its own to make it easier to find for others with the same problem.

This can happen if you kill the thugs too soon?

if so then try CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("WWThugsExist","AR0314",0)


I am not sure where these thugs are. Billy is about to take us to Smethy but when the area loads, the game crashes. Which area are we meant to be going to?

Note: The version of UB is 19.



They are Delag, Sten, Eforf & Vivick in area 0314... have you already killed them? & Have you got a ww[thugs name] Dead entry in your save game?

& yes this bug is still in v19.

They are alive and kicking, though it is Minsc who actually threatens to do the kicking. {smilie}

It looks like it is another bug.

Here are the Global Variables in SK



Reading the fora I seen that I am supposed to be going to see a merchant. Could a merchant mod be to blame?

At the Pocket Plane there is someone else with an identical problem, but that person hasn't had any reply over there other than me saying that I have the same problem. :(

Just wondering if you know how to fix the variables etc. as if I had done the quest so I can finish the game.

In future I'll just avoid Boo being stolen, but can't do that in this game.

I have tested the quest on a basic install so that you can use it to see what should happen.

I will look at them in due course. Sadly however Grimwald Wyrmslayer is
now dead.

Have looked at your files and would like a bit of clarification as to when each file was made.

I can't open them up as when I do the game crashes. presumably area files have had their names changed or something similar.

Specifically is one of the files just before entering the inn after Billy runs inside? If so, I could use the variables from that other than the timer values.

This is what I did:

1.    Go to the docks then leave and return after two days.
2.    When you return to the dock Minsc will not have Boo... go to the inn and Billy well spot you and run.
3.    Follow him inside and talk to the thugs (nicely was my test).
4.    I payed 500 gold and Billy teleports to the smithy... this is the only way in.

Except when the smithy tris to load it crashes. :( Anyone know the area code for the smithy?

CLUA Code might be the answer.

If this gets sorted, I will post the answer on the Pocket Plane as well.

I think areas 0314 pronounced ar0314 is the up stairs of the inn and ar1900 is the trolls or 0300 (docks) the smethy has no area because you can't get there without the spell (to be clear this is done with a cutscene).

talk billy = have just got the quest i.e. boo is gone.

end evil = fake boo is back and quest is finished.

boo2 = after talking to billy & smithy but before going to the fountian i.e. where your character is stuck... you can go to the fountian and consol the mage in if she isn't already there.

boo good end = real boo is back and quest is over... note that minsc has 19 str now as well.

edit: Just FYI the other file is screenshots of the questline... I'm not
sure where you are missing a file... did you have more than 6 in the
party (include pets)?

Ah, you've answered the question. I was hoping to get to the Smethy by CLUA and I can't.
Also I didn't realise that I had to look at Minsc's variables as well.
I only looked at those for the PC.
I can open them in SK but can't open the save games with the program.
It crashes.
Which of the save games is just before entering the inn?
I'll look at Minsc's files after I finish work as I would like to do the quest.
It looks interesting.

I will also investigate those other areas and see what happens.

Have I got it right.
From the inn you get sent straight to the smethy and somehow from there you get sent elsewhere?

1. Globle variables affect the entire party... I just put Minsc there to show the difference in portrait and as a visual marker of the evil ending... sorry for the confusion.
2. To run the game files (in game) you would need the same engine setting as me i.e. basic bg2 GoG install with UB Minsc quest only so that is probably why.
edit: 3. Boo 2 is just after the inn.... the save game (talk Billy) is just before. :wub:

4. Yes, the quest should send you directly to the shop from the inn by using a cut scene (I think) ... hence there is no time to save the game between these points but understand that there are about three different ways to resolve this part of the questline.

That clarifies things.
I have also been recommended to use Miloch's cre fixer and since I have problems, with the set up that might be another good option. it looks like I'm going to be busy. :)

But if I can fix things for others as well as for myself i'll be chuffed. I'm no modder but I might yet be one once I retire.

In the end I just changed the variables that began WW. I am wondering if I needed to change them all or do some refer to something else?

After that Minsc was happy that Boo had returned and the cowled wizards returned 1000 gold pieces. However Boo was not there and Minsc's strength was still 10.

Back to Shadowkeeper and removed the scraps and put Boo in the inventory plus increased Boo's strength to 19.

Is there anything else that I need to do?

I understand that there are other issues related to Minsc's Thac0. It is 17. Is that what it should be?

Whilst this solution is not ideal it is possibly the best I can hope for unless I turn to modding myself.

I will keep a record of this in case Boo disappears in the future.:)

1. Nothing in that list is likely to cause the issue you have.
2. Most are plot related but I would set them as shown in boo2 then go on to the government area and taken the quest up from there?
Still it is your game so that will work as well... Um what level is Minsc at?

... and no Boo should now stay put... :wub:

Minsc is level 9.
Sadly despite your help, the run is over as a lich killed wyrmslayer in the twisted rune.
However, I now have the tools to solve the problem if Boo is ever kidnapped again.

Bugger... Fyi at level 9 his base thac0 will be 12 but that assumes no weapoons, armour or spell effects are involved.

I stripped him of armour, rings, necklaces, weapons etc. and it is still 17.
No spells either. I improved strength to 19 using Shadowkeeper.

I've just realised that I should have changed THAC0 by 3 when I changed the strength from 10 to 19.
That would have made it 14. However, that would still have been wrong?

My guess would be that some kind of plot curse was applied to his thac0 as a penalty until Boo is returned... the Mage at the fountain removes it at the end of the quest.

In your case the Thac0 can just be adjusted with shadowkeeper i.e. open Minsc and put a 12 in the box... if you now get a different base number in game then there is still some effect in play.

To be clear I’m talking about the base thac0... the actual thac0 is shown underneath it and will jump all-over the place as you equip different weapons and armour that he may or may not be proficient in.

I dig out this post because i have a problem with this quest!

 

Billy doesnt appear...

 

I got the quest, minsc is angry because we dont go to the docks, his strengh is 10 etc... but no billy in front of the inn or inside... Should i sleep in an other inn and comme back few days later?

 

 

I am a totally newbie with SK and with CLUA code.

You could check the variable "WWBooGone" (should be 1). It's easiest done with ShadowKeeper (or EEKeeper if you have the EE version) but to fix the problem you need the console anyway so...

 

To activate the debug console:

 

For the original version: *click*

For the EE version: *click*

 

Restart the game, go to the docks and press 'ctrl space' and type

 

CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("WWBooGone","GLOBAL")  (for the original version)

or

C:GetGlobal("WWBooGone","GLOBAL")  (for the EE version)

 

The value should be 1.

 

Next you have to type:

 

CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("WWBillyExists","AR0300") (for the original version)

or

C:GetGlobal(("WWBillyExists","AR0300") (for the EE version)

 

If the value is 1 then Billy was spawned (it should be 1). To respawn Billy you have to set the variable to 0 by

 

CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("WWBillyExists","AR0300",0) (for the original version)

or

C:SetGlobal(("WWBillyExists","AR0300",0) (for the EE version)

 

Billy should spawn immediately :)
