hmm. if i equipped enough items with physical resistance bonuses, would it be possible to be completely immune to physical attacks? also, I ask this because it would make my rogue alot easier to play
+10 physical resistance.

ah, so the basic attacks are the ones mainly affected. still, it'll help alot against bosses.

Physical resistances are to my understanding debuffs/stuns/knockdowns of a physical nature, so it doesn't reduce the damage you take from physical damage at all.

With very high Physical resistance close to or 100+ the "Resisted" message appears quite frequently. You still will get stunned or knocked, but much less frequently, and it is possible (just a gut feeling not tested) Physical resistance could influence duration of not resisted effects. Another way is not to get hit in the first place which is probably the preferred way for a rogue.

I think physcial resistance caps at 100. Even then you can't be entirely immune. The resistance check target number is, from the Wiki:
Target's Physical Resistance-Attacker's governing attribute+(target rank)*(target rank modifier)+ (2*Target's level-Attacker's Level)*5.
I think the game generates a random number between 1 and 100 and if that number is > target number then the attack succeeds.
That said I'm 100% sure that this formula is wrong, I assume it's:
Target's Physical Resistance-Attacker's governing attribute+(target rank)*(target rank modifier)+ (Target's level-Attacker's Level)*5.
If it was the former formula, none of your abilities with physicial resistance checks wouldn't work against enemies whose levels were in the high teens unless their attributes were really messed up and they had no physical resistance score.
The shattering formula on that page seems to be wrong too, you have a much higher than 5% chance to shatter on a non elite on nightmare. (Seems to be around 90% from what I've seen).

Actually at 100% physical resistance you are immune to knockdown. You can still get pushed back from Dragons, and Ogres but never knocked on your butt.
Mental resistance protects you from stuns.

Wrong, there's no such thing as 100% physical resistance. It's not a percentage, just a flat number capped at 100. And it doesn't make you immune to anything, my DW Warrior with 100 resistance was still getting knocked all over the place by Ogres and Dragons at the end of the game.

Fine. It's not a % as I notice now. Though 100 physical resistance gives you the exact same benefit Indomitable does vs Knockdown (but not stuns as most of those are checked by mental resistance). It eliminates it. You can always get pushed backwards even as a warrior using those talents. You can get pushed backwards with the Shield Wall full enhanced.
My rogue had that much physical resistance and he was never knocked down. He could be pushed back, but like I said so was my warrior with talents backing it up.

Mathis my Arcane Warrior had 100 In both Resistances (thanks to Arcane Warrior Buffs) and still got Knocked down and stunned on occasion (rare) and then it never lasted long, so i think it shortens how long your messed up to, if only just a little

It's not like Indomitable at all. It's not even Shield Wall.
1. No stun immunity
2. Still get knocked down by skills
3. Knocked down / stunned by spells (Earthquake, Fireball, Blizzard, Grease, Mind Blast, etc.)
Can't even compare having 100 Physical Resistance with Indomitable.

The nice thing about Physical Resistance is that two of the most annoying spells in the game, Blood Wound and Crushing Prison, both check against it.

You only get stunned or taken down if you fail a physical resistance check, so the enemy has to be really damn powerful to knock you down with 100.

Happens often from my experience. Much less then with low Physical Resistance, but still.
The fact that some very common stun abilities ignore resistances and always hit unless your immune (like Dirty Fighting, Scattershot) doesn't help.
