I too have found this to be difficult however, it is not completely impossible to do. I am mainly a console gamer so I completely understand where you are coming from. I have been able to produce at least two good looking male characters one that I call my pissed off black Shep in ME2 (and thankfully he transfered just fine if not even better into ME3) and my casanova Hawke. (May post pics here later)

The reason Kain can't make a good male is because they don't look feminine, not because of poor controls.

Yeah kinda.

And though there actually ARE some missing controls, I am still VERY good with sliders, I can come CLOSE, but then the body and voice are completely off and don't add up with the face I made.

As I said the last game I could make an attractive character was DA:O, and only an elf, due to the fact that they naturally have smaller bodies and more feminine features. That's my elf:
Image IPB

And I doubt I will be able to make something similar in the future bioware titles, unless they make atleast 3-4 different presets for body and voice as well as the face for all the cutscenes, cuz ain't nobody want to play a ''girly'' looking male but me. lol

James Bond has been played by a dozen different actors, he's still the same character.

Hardly...each bond feels totally different, comparing the Craig to Connery, Brosnan, Dalton...they are totally different.

No, it isn't.  This has nothing to do with your misguided man vs. woman viewpoint of this thread.  At no point in the original post, nor any following post, was there a man vs. woman mentality, until yours.  So way to go, I congratulate you on your jumping to the feminism vs. all that men stand for, prerogative.

I feel terrible sorrow for those who are unable to see any issue other than from their own viewpoint.

It always strikes me as peculiar that on looking at forms of entertainment which are marketed largely to women we often see the same kinds of striving for attractiveness, and it gets a pass. Look at a soap opera's actors. Look at the leads in a RomCom, or at the covers of romance novels.

We /all/ like attractive sexy people. Anyone remember the coke ad (or was it pepsi) where the construction hunk takes his shirt off and enough women run over to look the entire building tilts? Do you know who buys the most male underwear (hint: it isn't men.) Do you think all those male underwear models are power fantasies for men?

I wonder sometimes if it isn't just that we're still uncomfortable with admitting women have sexual desires, and yes, sometimes are just as shallow as men in that they can get turned on by a hot looking guy. Isabela's unapologetic sexuality and the reactions to it on the forums proved instructive to me in this regard.

For this conversation to be taking place on the Bioware boards, of all places, puzzles me; largely because I think Bio usually does a damned good job of writing multi-faceted humans.

Uuuh...I think you have MASSIVELY misunderstood what people are saying if you think anyone here is saying women don't have desires. Because no one is saying that.

It seems to mostly boil down to "women in fiction will often get sexualized to a rediculous point far more often than men"

And I think you missed my own point.

Men are sexualized in products marketed towards women (which is why I mentioned romcoms, underwear models, etc.) and no one ever complains about it. If you don't think the zesty kraft guy or the Old Spice Guy are aimed at squarely at the female libido to try to sell women products, I don't know what to tell you.

Women are sexualized in gaming and beer ads and car ads and other media traditionally marketed towards men.

I was commenting on the double standard and one reason we might have a problem with the former and not the latter.

We seem to want to cling to the idea that women are really interested in a man's personality and such, perhaps because it makes us uncomfortable to admit sometimes a woman just likes looking at a hot male backside.

I'm reasonably certain both men and women will be appearing in the next Dragon Age game.

I don't think anybody is arguing that men are never sexualized in any medium. I'm certainly not.

But isn't that rather outside the parameters? It was my impression that we were talking about gender representation in video games, with a particular focus on the Dragon Age series. The sexualization of either gender in other mediums is only relevant insofar as it compares to video game marketing.

Pretty much, but I guess it does sort of nod to an underlying assumption that men don't buy their own soap.

They are what they are aren't they? Either men or woman.

Your point is? *genuine question*

If they made a PC that looked like Genesis and said, "We are all...monsters" and then sprouted a black wing and flew away, I'd play him alright. Or Sephie.

*omits obligatory sexual comment*

Meh. I'm a girl and I don't care if they sexualize female characters, or male characters. Sex sells. I am more inclined to watch a movie if the guy is a sexy beast and looks good shirtless. Same thing with video games. If Alistair was ugly, chances are it would have taken me more time to like him (and Alistair isn't even that physically attractive). Lots of women think like this, and men do too. I'm also more inclined to enjoy a game if I can play as what I perceive to be an attractive woman, because I like feeling sexy.

So of course games and movies will reflect that. :>

Is it a shallow view point? Sure. Will it change? It looks like it's starting to.

Look, Everybody just wants to look pretty and wants somebody pretty. A video game allows for a non handsome guy to be handsome and fall in love with a beautiful woman and vice versa. But remember people its just a game she/he is not real and never will be. Theirs plently of fish in the sea and looks arent everything, but damn it sure helps waking up to every morning.

At this point I just want female dwarves to make their re-appearence.

And if they could bring along the female kossith and not lose the female elves along the way that would be great.

Were people that pretty back in ancient times here on earth ? No they were often dirty with bad teeth and bad hygiene.
I want the people to be well proportioned and look like human beings including the elves who looked horrible in DA2

I installed in dao a mod that made elf look like the ones from da2 and...they look stunning. The reason why the elf didn't look good is the same that made Alistair, Teagan and Zevran look bad: the dev didn't have time to work. If you look at Anders and at Alistair you'll understand what I'm talking about. Alistair looks unfinished, like e was missing texturing and such. DA:O has been developed in more than twice the time than da2. In my opinion they made a really good job with the time and the resources that they had. ME3 was in dev too, and since it was (sadly IMHO) more successfull than da I think most of the employers where working on it.

Now EA understood that swift and good don't go well togheter, and I'm willing to wait to get a great product. I sincerely hope this time da will provide us something outstanding, or they will lost lots of fan
