Ok so what I mean is in all Bioware and pretty much every other game ever you have to "fix" the other character while you build up the romance. Alistair was a mess who you had to tiptoe around and build up his confidence, Zevran and Isabela didn't know how to be in a committed relationship and you had to break down their walls. Just to name a few.

I just think it would be a lot of fun if in DAI we could get a strong confident LI who while not without flaws acts as our support structure.  I mean if our speculation is right you are playing a character who will lead an army to try and bring order back to ALL of Thedas.  It would be nice to get to have it where in public you play the strong fearless leader.  But then behind closed doors you could brake down and be weak and insecure in front of your LI.  And they work to build you back up.

Just a thought.

Mass Effect 3 kinda tried that and, though I think I may be very much alone with this opinion, I thought it was rather well pulled off, with Shepard breaking down even all the way back in ME1 after being grounded and needing to be pulled back up on his/her feet by the LI, trying to keep each other going.

I think that kinda thing also depends very much on how you as the player roleplay your own character however. Never had a problem with pulling situations like that off here and there.

You would have to preset flaws for the PC or have a make the LI very reactive towards mistakes you may make in your decisions then right?

Interesting idea, but it should be optional.

It would be nice if they'd try exploring some character traits that don't involve one of the following:

1. I was abused and my life has been a wretched hell. I'm totally vengeful about it.
2. I drink a ton and sleep with anything that moves and I'm super-irresponsible. Or was that drink everything that moves and sleep a ton?
3. I am filled with regret over some stupid thing I did.
4. I'm just here to sneer at everybody for not being as awesome as I am.

Wait, actually, they did do a character like that: Varric.

MOAR VARRIC PLZKTHX.

All romances are optional. So if you want to play a flawless character then don't romance the PC. In DA2 I didn't want my Hawke to be an idiot so I never Romanced Anders.

We already have such a character who would be perfect for that. Her name is Cassandra Pentaghast.
Now if only they made her a companion and romance....

The PC has to be an unstoppable badass of utter flawless perfection who warps reality with their presence, otherwise people **** and whine.

Fix someone? You shouldn't go into a relationship wanting to "fix" anyone, if you have to fix someone then you're in the wrong relationship.

Player agency is the problem, giving the character an innate flaw that the player can't pick, didn't end up with because of something they did, and they have no control over getting rid of can be problematic. Just an observation. And this applies more to RPG's then some other games.

Sadly, this is how most bioware romances work

We can assume their will be choices in the game.  Bioware likes to try and make all their choices a gray area where the right choice is not apparent.  So just for the heck of it say at some point in the game you have to choose to side with the Templars or the Mages.  No matter what you pick you might then have a scene with said LI talking about your fears that you made the wrong choice.  This way you are reacting to what you as the character did.  Not that you are crying to your LI that when you were a kid your mom said mean things to you...

Arrogance and idealism are great character flaws for any PC you ever play in a Bioware game. I like that but it would be interesting to have those flaws toyed with in NPC interaction.

I also agree with iorveth1271 ME3 was a step in the right direction when Shep was breaking down Garrus, Liara, even Jeff tried to lift her up they were concerned, the interaction was no longer one way. It was awesome.

I think the "fix someone" is an emotional hook the video games use to snag your interest and broadly appeal to general stereotypes and hey it works just look at all the threads about the differing LI's. I wonder what it would look like to go the other way- hopefully not like Jacob.

While this is true in RL, I'd argue that completely stable relationships in a game would probably be pretty boring.  Plus almost all characters in Bioware game's have a story arc independant of any romance.  Merrill for instance does her thing with the mirror whether she's with Hawke or not.  It's only natural that you get a more intimate window into the arc if they are your LI.  It's just part of the cost of having romance in an RPG I think.

I don't think I'd much enjoy that sort of thing. It was kind of annoying how they kept trying to make my Shep lose her cool in ME3. I like the PC to be everyone else's rock. I wouldn't complain if they did it for other folks, just so long as I could completely avoid it.

No way, I want my PC to be an unapologetic lazy troll from start to finish.

Liara was trying to fix Shepard. That made people hate her even more. Female concepts fare poorly in making advancements towards others; because others prefer they target women. Not have women target them.
I don't really care to think much on the male side of this situation.

Morrigan fixed my Warden.

He started as a dumb-ass circlejerker from the Circle of Magi, but after Morrigan taught him a thing or two he quickly realized that the Circle of Magi sucked big time and deserved to be destroyed.

It would be nice if the player character becomes the waifu for the NPC.

But it would be difficult to implement the whole 3-4 conversations then sex structure, because most players would jump on the bones of the NPCs at the first available opportunity. There's no way that the players will wait a whole 4 conversations before they finally allow the NPC to do nasty things to them in an awkwardly animated cinematic.
