That would demand that you'd start out broken. "Lets assign this barely functioning excuse for a human being to be in charge of saving our world as reality itself crumbles around us!"

So you think that everyone that is a Hero or leader is not just as messed up as the rest of us?

I'll take an LI who can fix me - by removing my gallbladder. If you've never experienced a gallbladder attack, consider yourself lucky. :P

Worked out okay for Hawke. Kind of.

Its a great idea for PnP Rpgs because you are fully roleplaying the Character, however, forced flaws in an RoloPlaying type game, that isn't PnP, its hard to sell. Cause you don't want people raging that the person you are playing is an Emo wussy.

I mean if you think about it, Farcry 3, look at the character progression of the person you are playing. From a wimp to one Badass MF. Also get to see the phsycology devlop from being scared to being a warroir to enjoy killing.

That was fine because it was an FPS, and really that was just "Story" didn't really feel all that connected to the character.

With an RPG, they want us to connect the the character more, and forcing those kinds of emotions is hard. I mean Look at the mixed bag of reactions of Hawke's Mother's death. Some laughed at the stupidity of it, other felt for it.

Fix it? Work it harder? Make it better ... Do it faster, makes us stronger! More than ever hour after; our work is never over.

I demand a LI that works it harder and does it faster.

A relationship that "fixes you"? That's a dependency, not a relationship... like dating your AA sponsor.

A relationship that *completes* you is a different story: having an LI that is strong where you are weak or an "opposites attract" type, like a diplomatic person in a relationship with a short-tempered one, or an optimist with a pessimist, or a planner with a flyer-by-the-seat-of-his-pants...

Well, this topic is going to hell... Seriously, it will be a nice option, of course if the Inquisitor isn't a crying baby. This add more reality the game. Besides...

I totally support this. I always hoped the "spanking scene" with Isabela or Fenris but it never came. :crying:

Heh hero isn't for crying hero is for fixing others (or destroying them if you play as evil) and hero should be extremely competent (or extremely lucky) why because in other case that wasn't be hero just random dead minion.Fixing others aren't limited to romances like for example Oghren. Strong leaders knows that crying weakens morale and know that they should inspire people.

Yes, leaders and heroes have the exact same flaws as us, but they set themselves apart from the rest. A leader can never show weakness, never stop to look back, and above all...never give up. When they start breaking down they are no longer worthy of being a leader; because when everybody looks to them for safety and assurance, said leader won't have the answers everybody needs. A leader NEEDS to be perfect for everybody else's sake.

I do think Mass Effect 3 handled this fairly well (not "fixing," which I don't really feel the need to see, but support), by having several occasions where a teammate and/or love interest asked how Shepard was doing. And I don't think that it needs to be precipitated by some predetermined flaw or forced emotional reaction, as someone people feel was the case there. The other character can simply ask, and you're free to respond in different ways.

In fact, this reminds me of something I was thinking of the other day. I'd like there to be more points in the game where the protagonist can express his opinions, feelings, goals, etc. outside of making important decisions or supporting/arguing with a companion. For example, I loved the conversations Hawke had with Varric and Aveline where they asked him questions like what his plans were in Kirkwall, and his thoughts on returning to Ferelden. Those really stood out to me as excellent moments that allowed the player to define Hawke in more personal ways, and I'd like to see more of that kind of thing.

One thing I liked about the Zevran romance is that he watches out for the Warden. Sad? He'll recite a terrible poem for you to laugh at. Feel caged? He'll tell you to enjoy the moments you have, and you'll be happier for it. Need a pirate to board your ship? Here comes pirate Zevran reporting for- okay, you get it. Granted, you do get him to confront his guilt later on, but I enjoyed the fact that you supported him and he supported you.

The Garrus romance was the same. He stated that he was worried about Shepard the moment he realized Shep was in an alliance with Cerberus; he stayed with her because he knew she needed him. In ME3, he made her get some shut-eye, as well as comforted her after a nightmare.

And Kaidan is there to reassure Shep that he/she is doing amazing things.

So, yes, I agree there need to be more romances that have an even support system. DA3 will be an emotional roller coaster, I'm sure. And it doesn't even have to be a romance, a friendship can do the same - like Varric! Varric watched out for Hawke a great deal, and I really admire that.

I really dislike fixing/protecting people. Almost as much as I dislike it when people think I need fixing/protecting. So this romance wouldn't be for me.

But neither was Merril so more power to yah.

Maybe it's time to take a long hard look in the mirror.

Why a ROMANCE necessarily?
Friendships or mere events can "fix" someone.

By the way, romances are already too much of a safe haven in Dragon Age: no jealousy, no conflict, romanceable characters don't care about your choices, personnality or morality, no baby, no clap, no balance of power, no quarrel. And you want your romance to fix your protagonist's issues on top of that?
