No thanks, I'm not interested in playing as a beta male that needs to be fixed by a woman.

Morrigan was just a troll. At most she's a light version of 4.

Also, what Sylvius said.

Lol, it doesn't matter if you are alpha or beta. Lots O women will still try to fix you regardless.

You can't fix someone that is perfect.

Could be done as a parody of everything that has come before, although I do remember moments like this in Origins at least. I think this is mostly a game play thing, because so much of it depends on it being initiated by the player. If it were some other medium it would be allot easier I think.

Oh! Not a love interest, but anyone play KotOR: The Sith Lords? Kriea was constantly pissed off with you and trying to mold you into something different. The game outcome change somewhat due to your willingness to go along with her or not. She even disapproves of you looting corpses, which is kind of funny considering the game type.

... and they'll let 'em think they're the alpha the entire time.

That would be a cool and interesting idea, and I have always wanted there to be a LI that is bolder, stronger, more independent, confident, and takes initiative. The LI's (especially the male ones) have been pretty meek and reliant on the PC for everything.

Make evil/stupid choices intentionally, but make less as you progress in your romantic relationship.

In my games, the PC is the leader of the pack, not an oppressed wimp.

If they don't have the player character voice acted then maybe they could pull this off. I doubt it though. They haven't been writing good romance lately. It's been cringe worthy.

True, but only really insecure people will believe that when they aren't.

Hah! You'd be surprised.

Most alpha males are insecure by definition since they're actively trying to be an alpha male. Rare is the male who actually fits the role.

I wouldn't mind if one of the romances in the game worked like this. Greater difference and variation in the romances would be a great addition I think.

I can't argue with that.

Personally, "fix" romances are bleargh, regardless of who's doing the fixing.  I loved Anders' DA2 romance partially because it was a brilliant deconstruction of a "fix" romance.

That being said, I understand that different things float different peoples' boats, and it would be at least refreshing to see a romance in which the PC could lean more on his/her LI.  Variety is the spice of life and all that.

This is entierly up to you as a player; not BioWare as a developer.

The problem with this idea (albeit, a very good one) is that it presents the challenge of retaining agency and at the same time, pre-set development to the PC. BioWare games (minus ME3) have always had a good amount of player agency, introducing mechanics and features that inflict our character with pre-set emotions is just going to lessen that, giving us a lesser RP experience.

Mind you, our companions did console us when our mother died in DA2, so that's a step forward. If they want to help us during tough times, so be it, as long as I decide the paths in which I develop my character; not the game itself.

That is impossible to do on bioware's side because they would have to place an inherent psycological flaw in the main character, which would not go over well.

I think that they should expand on da2's consoling and reactions when something personal have happen. (with the opportunity for the PC to brush them off of course), but that is all they can do.

If some one wants to be fixed by an Li, change the nature of the choices you pick before and after the romances. It is in the players hand to choose how the pc's reacts after all.

I want a girl with a short sword, and a long trinket.

Seriously, how would a developer respond to a request like this?

They couldn't, really. It involves giving the PC a shred of fallibility and weakness, which doesn't really work in player-defined RPGs (for some audiences, I mean).

Shame really, I wouldn't mind some established character traits and development for the PC, but I have to agree that a linear non RPG format is probably a better suited for it.

I think that could even work really well - I for one wasn't at all annoyed about Shepard showing some cracks in the foundation here and there.

The problem is rather that people want an oldschool non-character protagonist like The Warden on the one hand, but also cinematic storytelling, dynamic dialogue and everyone interacting consistently with the subplots on the other. It just doesn't work.

I want a girl with a mind like a diamond, I want a girl who knows what's best.... I want a girl with a sword that cuts and eyes that burn like dragonfire.

Anyway.
I'm not sure fixing is the best word, but I will say my favorite part of Jacob's romance in ME2 (shut up) is that he actually took the time to ask how Shepard was doing and give Shepard a chance to vent a bit. Or not, as the case may be. That was well handled. Of course, it helped that Jacob's main draw was he was not-buckets-o-broken. But still. I'd be in favor of things like that. Where the LI offers the PC some additional chances to express themselves and their doubts, and is there with a 'there, there, it'll be ok.'

Something different from heaping crisis and issue after crisis and issue onto the PC until they're buried in emotional baggage, anyway.
