Agreed.

Ventured out into the pvp style fps out there... and I forgot how I've been spoiled by the ME3 community.

*hugs everybody, oh ok wait, not... not you though, have a handshake.*

Well when one writes community/culture it means all of it not just BSN. For example I was part of the online community for a long time way before even joining BSN. The experiences on BSN vary. Personally my experience with the community has been really good.

This is a friendly community, lots of helpful players, few elitists. But I wonder what would happen if the next game is PvP... I'm not sure the friendliness and helpfulness would remain if it weren't co-op.

For a subforum that revolves around co-op multiplayer, the people here sure do give off a competitive vibe.

Decent community. A bit of elitism here and there, but still a decent community nontheless.

QFT.

This being my first MP experience as well, I started playing the MP modes of other games that I own, and it's just awful. Getting teabagged, called a noob constantly, and other douchebaggery just makes me realize how much better this community is overall.

I honestly think it has something to do with the co-op nature of this game, and I'd be willing to bet that if it had a PvP, this thread would not exist.

I agree that the co-op nature of the game has an effect ... but for more than just actual game play.

A co-op game probably attracts a different crowd than pvp. You have folks with pvp experience try it out, those whose personalities align with a co-op game are happy and stay. Those whose personalities aline with pvp get bored and leave.

Certainly, as with all things, there are those who behave differently in co-op than pvp, and can play either game style comfortably and be equally happy with either community. But I think many are here and have stayed here because it is a better match for what they enjoy.

tl;dr: game style affects players' attitudes/behavior, but type of game attracts/keeps a certain type of player too.

If they turn ME 4 into a PvP (which I fear they will do; probably as an FPS as well... different story though) this will all pretty much go to hell.

I also don't really agree with what's been going on around here these last days, what with threads disappearing and locks, bans from generic mods or whatever. I don't know, it's like "yeah, we had a community and then we permabanned them". The "S" in BSN can be interpreted in a few ways I guess. Maybe it's just a personal feeling though.

It is really entertaining to check the forums though, there's always something nasty going on. I pretty much had at least one tab in my browser opened on BSN since the game was released.
Better than any TV show.

I've been a part of online communities for more than a decade and BSN doesn't impress me much. I could go as far as debating if BSN is actually a community but even ignoring that there is the fact that this community is tiny compared to others. That means the actual number of jerks and idiots is significantly lower. BSN is pretty much just a strictly moderated forum, so there isn't really much of an opportunity to be an a**hole to people.

Other gaming communities are not only larger but also more complex. There is ingame chat, an official forum, fan sites, clan/guild websites, irc channels and so on. In other games teamwork is much more important and there are more reasons to interact with each other, too.
There are hints of that here but overall we communicate a lot less.

15 years ago people seemed to be a lot more polite in their online interactions. With easier ways to communicate and with the triumph of social media the behaviour of people somehow became worse with every passing year. I think it's because some people continue to push the boundaries and no one tells them to stop... so after a while their antics become the norm and acceptable... until they push again.
Here on BSN you can get banned for slight misunderstandings, so people are forced to be polite.
It's not the people, it's the environment.

Out of all the communities I have been a part of, this has been the friendliest, helpful and most fun I have ever had on a forum. Every community has it's share of drama from time to time but at least the drama here is mostly entertaining. I'm actually glad I decided to post.

It's a Utopia compared to other games. Same with this forum.

I wouldn't walk into another forum at night.

Well, at least you can say you were there when BSN was small. I imagine if Next Effect has a better MP than this one did, we'll be seeing a lot more posters.

Yeah - you've not played ME3MP with me then

"I've had it with these motherf****** Banshees at this motherf****** LZ" (Cobra missile) to paraphrase Snakes on a Plane... except wih my accent it's definitely more "Lock Stock" than Samuel L Jackson.

I was never one to become overtly engaged in multiplayer functions in games. ME3 is, to that, a glorious and mesmerising exception. I just love ME3's multiplayer. Celorfiwyn (on mp) here btw.

Absolutely agree
In fact, if it weren't for ME3MP and BSN, I wouldn't play anything. This game, and this community are the sole reason I play at all.
I amagine that having PvP in ME MP would inganger the overall goodness.
And I sincerely hope that the guys from BioWare recognize this positivity. After all it's their game ;)
Stay classy BSN and don't give up

Not too sure.
There are still the elitists and DBs around.
This place reminds me of some of the MMOs I used to play.
On the fence from my point of view.
I do love me some PVP although I suck at it.

Happens when the game gets some age, the ones who really like the game stick around, and tend to be a part of the better crowd at any rate.

I remember a few months ago, (a few) people were complaining how this was one of the worst forums ever.  I think the sentiment around here can swing pretty quickly.

Most of the really "elite" h@ck0rs players have left, so perhaps the community isn't as antagonistic.  But that's just speculation.
