The Grey Wardens are a big bag of dicks, they could've done any number of terrible things that would provoke a completely justified attack from any number of groups.

This.

Its often the case within trailers. Deliberately done to cause lots of discussion & generate hype. If she is however attacking a Warden fortress I doubt we will know until we actually play the game.

If that is indeed a Warden Fort, then it's probably because a Grey Warden recently blew up one of their holy buildings. People tend to get a wee bit upset over things like that.

Even if she really is attacking the wardens, I'm sure she has a good reason for it. Cassandra is not an unreasonable person and the wardens aren't goody goody either.

Maybe wardens vs. Seeker is a major conflict of the game...

It would be interesting to go up against you former group or side with them against Cassandra

Loghain didn't respect the Wardens.....at least not in DA:O......
Before I start making any wild theories on that trailer, I think I'll just wait for more information.
Orrrrrr.....it's not a Grey Warden castle anymore....maybe it's the Inquisitor's? Speculate on them apples. >:D

yea but they aren't exactly evil either, I mean considering the short lifespan, having to kill darkspawn all the time. Honestly its not as much as a reward to be a Grey Warden as it is a sentence.

So I wouldn't doubt that alot of Mages have gone to the Grey Warden.... if they only knew that, in order tobecome a Grey Warden you have a chance of dieing.

So really, it could have been only a few mages survived but because they where excepting them in droves they think there is a huge onclave of mages there, cause, Grey Wardens don't want the info of the great risk of dying sort of thing.

Isn't blood magic ok for the wardens? I guess that Cassandra would go nuts over a bunch of blood mages.

But where is my love Leliana?

I won't say a bag of dicks... But they have even more autonomy than the spectres of Mass Effect. It wouldn't be a surprise that members of the Chantry want to punch them in the face, after all, those guys tend to do stuff like letting apostate mages join their ranks to have protection from the Templars.

She may be helping the wardens fight an attack that started within the fortress because of a veil tear or something to that effect. Just an idea.

Chantry doesn't work with Templars anymore.
Also, that trailer could display a lot of things that might not appear to be in the game and even if she is attacking the fortress she probably has a good reason.

The Templars and most of the Seekers have gone rogue, leaving Cassandra, Leliana, and the Inquisition.

Eh, and the Inquisition isn't just a bunch of dicks too? Who gave them authority to run wild over Thedas and order people around?

I'm guessing that DA3 will likely have the Wardens either all corrupted by Corypheus or something else will have happened to them via the Taint via the plot threads dropped by Avernus in Warden's Keep. Or something to that effect where maybe the Wardens are split and you have to side with a pro-Corypheus Warden faction versus an anti-Corypheus Warden faction or something along those lines.

I just really get the impression that the basic structure of the game is going to ape Origins whole cloth. Substitute dragons and Fade demons with the darkspawn and substitute mages versus Templars and a whole bunch of other faction in fighting  that will result in the player siding with one side verus another to gain allies to defeat the ANCIENT EVIL at the end of the game.

If it is that, its not the end of the world so long as its executed well. But the smaller scale plot of DA2 wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it was the execution of that plot. Hell, it seems like The Witcher 3 is basically doing something similar with a more personal plot that just spans a large geographical area.

Already exists a topic of this theme.

Anyway, my opinion is that the Grey Wardens are protecting mages somehow.

It's not about who has "authority" or not, it's about how well-liked an organization is. In DA:O the warden had the opportunity to make a number of decisions that would obviously not be popular with anyone, and in DA2 we saw the wardens abandon Kirkwall to burn in the second act, and we saw them trying to deliberately awaken a powerful corrupted magister in the Legacy DLC.

The Grey Wardens can and do make a lot of unpopular decisions and their political immunity can only extend so far. They ****** so many people off, it was only a matter of time.

The Inquisition, being a new organization (or at least, it hasn't actively bothered anyone for several centuries), will have a lot more leeway in this regard. I fully expect the Inquisitor to have similar decisions to make, and even if he makes purely good ones, I fully expect the Inquisition to become a more morally ambiguous organization in future games that is reviled by some, unless it is immediatly disbanded after the events of DA:I.

It seems like the organization is trying to use a lot of the goodwill created by the Warden and Alistair to increase their influence. They really are kind of dicks; necessary dicks, but dicks all the same.
