There's a such thing as going to far. Did you see any ninjas in Dragon Age? I didn't.

Scythe is a Ninja weapon, usually they attach it with long chains, nusharigama + manrikigusari, an excellent weapon to destroy Samurai wielding sword

Maybe Mages can improvise staff making them nunchaku, that is interesting

A scythe is not a weapon, and was NEVER used by ninjas. It's a farming tool used to mow grass and reap crops.

Sorry, but there are plenty of games out there that utilize scythes as weapons.  The Great Scythe in Dark Souls is considered one of the best dexterity based weapons in the game.  If Bioware wants to add a few unique and different weapon sets into the game then they should.  They certainly shouldn't be stopped because a few BSN users can't suspend their disbelief.

Scythes are really hideously impractical weapons. Have you ever held one? They're bloody unwieldy.

Death gets a pass because he's frickin' Death; the scythe is really just there for show. Unless you sharpen that thing on sunlight, no sane person should be using scythes.

Now polearms, that's a different story.

placing a scythe blade on a straight pole is a time honoured tradition for bringing the pain.

Peasants rebelling?  Scythe on a stick will be the main long weapon (as well as a 'military' pitch fork) .  When the blacksmith is finished with them they should look something like this

A nasty weapon all round,   and you can see where some true polearms get their inspiration from, Fauchard Fork for example.

This reminds me a little of a dar'misu  :)  It also looks a bit like the Ainu threshing tool Kabuki uses as a weapon.  Incidentally, I've always felt one could read a bit of Kabuki into the city elf origin, given Adaia's ancestral weapon Fang and Tabris' potentially fraught relationship with their late mother.
