So here's the dilly-o.

I'm a male human noble and I want my own tuchis on the throne. I'm gonna marry Anora. And I don't want to take Morrigan's ritual, nor do I want myself or Alistair sacrificed: so I'm going to conscript Loghain into the wardens and have him kill the Archdemon. Now, obviously Alistair's gonna leave my party, and I'm fine with that... but if he leaves does he automatically become a wandering drunk and get the drunk import in DAII? Or is there some way I can have him remain in the Wardens, just not in my party?

The only way for Alistair to remain a Warden is if Loghain dies. For Loghain to live Alistair must be king, dead, or exiled.

Well, if you don't want him to become a wandering drunk, you can allow Anora to have him executed.

But stay a warden? No.

No, because Alistair's a grumpy kill joy who is too consumed by rage and a need for vengeance to realize what a Warden really is. I bet you Duncan is looking on from the afterlife with his arms crossed, shaking his head in disappointment.

Still, I love him. Sometimes. What I love about Alistair is that there are so many different ways you can look at him. From one angle he looks like a sweet, funny guy, and from another he looks like a selfish, angry jerk.

The only two ways I can see the Player Character not having a bone to pick with Loghain themselves is with either Dwarf origin.

Human Noble has a bone to pick in that he was an accomplice to the murder of their parents and a huge swath of the castle staff and men-at-arms. The only way Howe could have gotten away with it was if Loghain shared his plans to abandon the King to the Darkspawn.

Mage has the fact that he allowed a completely amoral sociopath Libertarian attempt to con the tower and then unleash demons into what was their home.

Dalish/City Elf? Enslavement of elves. Especially the City Elf. To the Dalish Elf, it's just another example of human tyranny towards elven-kind. But it's far more personal to the City Elf.
