has anyone played this game?

I wanted to start the sequel, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward thread, but seeing that their is no thread for the original game I thought creating a thread for the original game is more appropriate.

To me, Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors(999), with its sequal Zero Escape, has THE BEST mature story ever told in video game history. Its complex and insanely smart plots are likely something you've never experienced in video games before.

No one's ever played this game. It's all a figment of your imagination. The Nonary Game is a lie perpetuated by the government and Lotus does not have big boobs.

Picked it up expecting a decent story, tried to piece everything together and have it make sense in my head.

It's Japan, don't bother trying to piece it together.

Decent premise, meh storytelling with way-out-there reasonings.

I'd tell you to try it if you're interested and know what you're getting into.

:crying:B-But Persona 4's from Japan. And that makes sense!

I absolutely adored 999. I bought it after reading a review that made it sound like the point-and-click horror games I used to play when I was younger. While it didn't turn out to be what I thought, it was the first game in a long while to have me playing until 3AM.

I had such fantastic instincts. *edited because my spoiler tags didn't seem to work all that well, lol

I didn't like VLR nearly as much. Unlike the first game, I'd figured out a few of the "big reveals" in about five minutes. By the end, I really didn't care that much anymore and just wanted it to finish. And then it didn't. Well, I'm on the hook for the third, so it did its job.

Given how much time I'm sinking into it, it is game of the century. The depth and level of customization is obscene.
