I recently re-installed Mass Effect, and ran into a problem I don't remember from before.

When I select 1680x1050 (my native resolution) it says "1680x1050 (16:9)" - when it should be 16:10.

Is there any way to fix this?

Why does it matter? If it's running at 1680 x 1050, you are fine. It is running in 16:10. It's just telling you the wrong aspect ration, but that doesn't mean anything.

Well, the FoV might be ever so slightly wrong, but that's hardly noticeable from 16:9 to 16:10. Just a couple of degrees off.

In game display always shows 16:9 for all wide screen resolutions.

As long as it shows your proper resolution, ignore the aspect.

Correct.

Is there's no way to fix it? It's obviously a bug, since 1680x1050 (16:10) will obviously never display correctly if it's on a 16:9 aspect ratio. It shouldn't be too hard to fix, either.

Is it just a carryover from the X360 that never got patched (I'm getting a vibe that it's a know issue)?

Wrong. You can force any aspect ratio for any resolution (apparently not in Mass Effect, though). The problem is that it tends to end up wonky.

Try running an old 1024x768 (4:3) game on a widescreen 16:10 monitor and you'll see it quite clearly.

It shows the proper resolution, but it's the wrong aspect ratio. I'm not keen on simply ignoring it.

Funny, I went to the config thingy, and it allowed me to choose 16:10 and gave a list of appropriate resolutions. I played my final run at 1920x1200. *shrug*

It does not have the wrong aspect ratio, its just the in game menu that displays it wrong.

As long as the resolution is correct, you can ignore it. In my case it is the same, should say 16:10, but aspect is fine and circles are circles. :)

Like I said, you may be right (though it may also be just a typo), but in my opinion, it's just not that bad. Just a couple of degrees, nothing you will notice. I mean, would you notice if it was 16:9, but it said 16:10? I wouldn't.

I can't actually choose aspect ratio beforehand. When I use the dropdown menu, I get a list of resolutions with the aspect ratio listed beside it.

1680x1050 displays as "1680x1050 (16:9)", which is obviously the wrong aspect ratio.

There really has to be a way to force the resolution/aspect ratio somewhere, but I can't find it.

For some reason, 1920x1200 isn't even an option (I'd like that too).

Of course it is, as long as your display driver announces it properly. I'm sure many of us run in 1920x1200.

Ah, that's right. There's a config option at the launcher. Open that, it should give you more detailed options than the ones in-game. :)

Doh, my bad, I missed seeing the later post where the OP mentions the X360 - I play it on PC. From the startup menu you can just go into system configuration and set things up there (well, that explains why he didn't do that I guess - heh).

1680x1050 is 16:10, no matter what it says there. It's a typo. Also, if your native resolution is 1680x1050, you can't play at 1920x1200 because it's higher than your native.

Ah, alright. So it's just a display bug in the Settings? Thanks a lot for clearing that up.

I found the "Configuration Thingy" (completely forgotten that it existed, I ran the game straight from the .exe) and 1680x1050 displays as a 16:10 resolution.

Thanks a lot for the help, even though there apparently weren't a real problem to begin with. :)
They really should push out a little patch for something so minor as a menu display bug.

I do play on PC. I was just wondering if it was a carryover from the X360, where there are no 16:10 support (unfortunately).

Thanks for the help everyone. :P

Yeah, the ME1 config is a little odd that way. In any case, you should be able to choose regardless. If not in game, then from the config panel prior to loading the game.
