Earth is in ruins, chaos and seperated into factions. the aliens are stuck on earth for the next few years. there is room for a lot of conflict.. i would like to see how the galaxy united against the terra firma- cerberus agenda comes into play.
Maybe a civil war on earth or harsh penalties for being an vorcha.

Shape the future of earth and explore nearby star system through lightspeed. maybe escort the first mass relay repair team on the arcturus.

I think playing a mercenary would be the most refreshing. since you will be more independent to do as you see fit.
Pick sides and then turn on them for even more credits.

The aftermath is tricky though, because how do you choose a canon ending without pissing everyone off? There wouldn't be much chaos in Control or Synthesis. And in the EC slideshows, everything seems to be going pretty well on Earth.

Of course they might eventually just have to pick an ending and be done with it anyways, if they want to expand the franchise. Maybe it's better to just start now.

The aftermath could have been a wonderful basis for a new ME story. But for this, they shouldn't have made the ending "high-level".

This....

Not necessarily. They could go the Alternate Timeline route. Or they could do a game set before our Cycle's Reaper War.

Personally, unless they find some way to import our final choice of ME3 into the next game on the next gen consoles (seemingly impossible), then I'd rather just have the Shepard Trilogy stand on its own as a self-contained story.

With the destruction of it's base, death of it's leader and destruction of the entire fleet, I doubt there's much left of Cerberus.

Also, if you have a high EMS, it shows how Citadel and Mass Relays already got repaired in the coming months/years.

Shepard says:
Shepard: This chair's about the only damn thing you have left. Cerberus is finished.
Shepard: I've given you every chance to listen to reason. Cerberus is done, and so are you.

Because we've basically fought tooth and nail with Cerberus until really the only thing that's left is the Cerberus HQ (or so we're led to believe)

The Illusive Man (TIM) says:
Illusive Man: As always, you fail to grasp the obvious. Cerberus isn't just an organisation or the people behind it. "Cerberus is an idea; that idea is not so easily destroyed."

If you have high ems the mass relays are broken and need to be fixed. just because you can get the on sol fixed doesnt mean its going to work. you have to fix the next one on acrtuerus system and so forth. in order to connect the dots.
That will require a few days of ftl cruise.

After that TIM shot himself in the head for what his idea done.
An idea doesn't necessarily have an army behind it.

I, on the other hand, would like the next game to frantically smash the events of the first three into a pulp, burn the pulp, bury the ashes far underground, and then skip ahead to a thousand years later to when people are saying "What ashes? Buried where?"

Not that I feel strongly about this or anything.

Forget burying the ashes I'd rather go back in time and endure they never existed to begin with

Unless somehow MEHEM became a viable option for a sequel I'd rather go the alternate timeline route.

Yeah That's the only shot they have at making a sequel that would hold any interest for me.

In my humble opinion, I don't think they should do prequel for the next Mass Effect b/c it would be beating a dead horse. Instead, I think it would be better to choose a canon ending with a lot of possibilities. In defense of this, let me refer to another game: the Metro games. I believe in Metro 2033, the protagonist was able to choose two choices, but for the sequel, the developers chose a canon ending leading up to Metro Last Light.

I believe the best canon ending would be the Destroy ending because it would leave the most possibilties for future plot conflicts. Synthesis and Control are too...utopian for post-Reaper War conflicts. The developers have a lot of flexibility with a galaxy that is torn apart or in the process of reconstruction and restructuring. They don't have to develop a story on the massive cosmic scale that the Shepard story was, but they could perhaps focus on a smaller but deeply personal conflict between characters and situations. Maybe tell a story with a protagonist who was a child during the Reaper war.
