Perhaps if we were speaking of real circumstance, but we aren't. I don't want to pull the fantasy game card, but that what this is. The fact that someone who wields a sword day in and day out should look a certain way is a minute matter when it in lives in a place you insert yourself into the ambiance.

You cannot say that a woman who wields a sword to defeat darkspawn and dragons and other manner of beasts cannot possibly do so unless she is muscular and sturdy. To do that is to project your preferences onto everyone else.

That is why many options are a great thing. If you can't grasp the concept of someone who is slender being able to be a badass with a sword, if her build is what retards your ability to immerse yourself, then by all means it would be wonderful for you to be able to build a character that does it for you. I am a very short, very slender person and I enjoy having a character with my build playing a badass (Except for the height, as most characters are tall). I don't want to play a woman who has muscle definition. All of this, however, is not the issue.

You can say that a slender person cannot be taken seriously as a warrior in a fantasy setting all you want, but do not get offended and riled up when someone else says they do want to play a muscular female because they find that mannish. It's a pot and kettle thing. To be honest, I think it's stupid on both sides of the coin. I just find it amusing that those who "stand up" for the "female who doesn't meet the normal societal view" cannot do so without insulting those who do fit into that view. There are women who have large breasts. There are women who are slender and tall and to say they cannot be taken seriously is as insulting as saying that muscular women are mannish. Which was my point.

When I see people who complain that female warriors having muscle make them mannish and then state that it's stereotyping to say that slender women can't be warriors just irritates me to no end. In the current fantasy game market almost all female charcters are incredibly slender and have matchstick arms, while the men are all massively ripped. It's annoying because the men are obviously being portrayed as how male warriors would probably look while womens builds are really just sexualised. There are some exceptions where women are given more muscle or the option to ahve more muscle and games like TERA where male physiques can be equally sexualised, but they are not the norm.

You can't pull the "discriminting against large breasted/ slender women card" because all people are asking for are the option to actually be something different for once, and it's a rather ridiculous card to pull in the first place. Yes some women have large breats- but how does this relate to female warriors jumping around with chainmail bikini's and matchstick arms? Is it not possible for women of such size to wear armour that covers them properly? I just don't see the point of it. I don't think anybody here has said all female avatars should be muscular and have no breats, and I don't think anybody would say that, so I don't see what your trying to say.

What is happening is that in this very thread someone responded to the idea of more body types with "We don't need fat guys or guys with the strength of a 10 year old" as if to imply that the male physique given to us in the last game is normal. People seem to mistake the physiques given in the game for realistic ones, saying that people with less muscle are "scrawny" when they are still more muscular than the average person in real life or that women are "mannish" when they actually have some muscle, as would be expected for women in a combat role. It's pretty sad.

So stupid comments about "offending slender women" and trying to be a smart-ass are not only pretty irrelevent when nobody said that there shouldnt be a slender option but also brushing aside a pretty big issue with no thought.

What in the heck are you even saying? lol

To address the first paragraph: I didn't state that it was my opinion that muscular women are mannish. That was someone else's opinion. Also, don't kid yourself into thinking male characters are portrayed as beefcakes because it's more historically accurate. They are made that way to be eye-candy. Females aren't the only ones made the way they are because it's viewed as universally appealing. Personally, I am for sliders to give options for various body types. *I* do not wish to play a muscular female and I don't care if it's historically accurate, or how realistic it may or may not be and I take no issue with someone who does want to play with a muscular woman.

As to the second paragraph: I never said anyone was discriminating against slender women. You missed the point entirely. Also, I don't recall DA1 or DA2 implementing chainmail bikinis or armor that doesn't cover females properly. And again, you missed the point of my original comment. It isn't about what body type female characters should or shouldn't have. The point was: Do not be a hypocrite. Do not get offended when someone says muscular women are mannish, then turn around and say slender women are weaklings.

To the bolded part: You completely contradict yourself. First you say women should have muscle because it's an accurate portrayal, then in the bolded you say that it's sad that people mistake real life bodies for those in game. I say slender women can most certainly be taken serious in a badass role, if that is what 'You', the gamer wishes it to be.

You really should re-read my comment, and the comment to which I applied it. You're getting worked up over statements I never made, over issues I never raised. Once again, so that maybe you'll understand it:

I think there should be options for all body types. My opinion on body types isn't relevant to my comment. Someone called out another poster for saying that he thought muscular women were mannish, then countered with an insult towards slender women. My point, and read carefully: Don't call someone out for insulting a certain body type, and then counter with an insult toward another body type. My intentions had nothing to do with which body type is more realistic in a fantasy setting where you can use magic and a dwarf can sling a weapon that is larger than his entire body.

Being able to pick their body type just gives you more asses to choose from.

Or... you could just do a muscle mass adjuster in character creation? I mean, I would LOVE to be buff, even if I was mage lol. But, at the same time, other people would want their character to roleplay in their own way. Oh, and please do not recycle body types, especially for main characters. For example: Kaidan has the same body type as Broshep, and that is kind of lazy. For NPC's, make their appendages realistic in terms of body type, and don't make them so awkward. I swear, brosheps arms are so awkward on his body, and his pectorals don't fit well :/.

All the women have the same body type too. It's not being lazy, it's just too expensive to create a brand new model for someone not everyone is going to see "naked" anyway.

I think it would be hard to roleplay in a video game if you keep seeing recycled body types. I know that it is expensive, but you could at least mix it up a little. I mean, in Citadel DLC (I'm not sure if you played that before), you LITERALLY see the same guy, like, 5 times (or more) around the strip. Maybe he has 5 twins? lol.

I love your terminology of 'broshep', lol. I know this somewhat contradicts my original points about having a bit of variety in the game and wanting to customise the bodies of our PCs and not just the faces, but I think it's pretty much a given that Bioware are not going to want to make a new body type for every NPC in the game. I don't mind the 'recycled body types' as long as we are given the option to choose our PC's body type. Most games use the same body type for all characters so it wouldn't bother me too much (it would be FANTASTIC to have NPCs of all different statures, don't get me wrong), but the PC is special and I feel like we should be able to mold our hero character however we like. I totally agree with you about the awkward stances though, especially during dialogue scenes. Either characters are standing statically wih their great, muscular arms just hanging or they're waving their arms around yet oddly not moving their fingers at all.

Animation issues probably make variable body sizes difficult. Different skin textures allowing for a more or less toned appearance might be m ore practical?

But look at games like Saints Row, Skyrim, and Dragon's Dogma. In those games, you can choose your body type, granted, it WAY more extensive in Dragon's Dogma, and I never recall seeing animation issues with it (though you can make some really weird characters with that). Skyrim allowed you to change your muscularity (weight) with no issue, and Saints Row 2 and the Third gave players the ability to go all out on their characters without a problem. Maybe its more of a time consumption problem rather than an animation one.

And yes, I would really like it if Bioware would pull away from the obsolete 'idealistic' male and female figure, and go for something new.

Bioware could you please make the boobs bigger on the female player characters?

As a woman with big boobs, I agree. People keep harping that "not every woman is a DD!" That's true, some of us are not so flat.

So, um.... do you come here often?

It would be great to choose the body build of the PC. We could then customise the character as we wish. If only this could be coupled with better and more facial sliders, then I could say it'd be near-perfect.

It's kind of awkward seeing most NPCs having the same body-types, especially like yours.

It might be hard for them to do, but it's certainly something I support.
But maybe not in this game.. You need to be a bit muscular to be a warrior, so having a built body would be important, but I suppose it wouldn't be bad to have a choice on your size.
Being a short female myself, I would've liked to be able to change things like my height or a little of my body shape, though it might be hard for them to put it in game and.. Still give us all the customization that we want, I saw the problem arise in Saints Row 3.

Well I'd love to see varying body types just so not every single guy and girl is exactly the same, an old person with a ridiculously ripped body? come on...
