Perhaps if we were speaking of real circumstance, but we aren't. I don't want to pull the fantasy game card, but that what this is. The fact that someone who wields a sword day in and day out should look a certain way is a minute matter when it in lives in a place you insert yourself into the ambiance.
You cannot say that a woman who wields a sword to defeat darkspawn and dragons and other manner of beasts cannot possibly do so unless she is muscular and sturdy. To do that is to project your preferences onto everyone else.
That is why many options are a great thing. If you can't grasp the concept of someone who is slender being able to be a badass with a sword, if her build is what retards your ability to immerse yourself, then by all means it would be wonderful for you to be able to build a character that does it for you. I am a very short, very slender person and I enjoy having a character with my build playing a badass (Except for the height, as most characters are tall). I don't want to play a woman who has muscle definition. All of this, however, is not the issue.
You can say that a slender person cannot be taken seriously as a warrior in a fantasy setting all you want, but do not get offended and riled up when someone else says they do want to play a muscular female because they find that mannish. It's a pot and kettle thing. To be honest, I think it's stupid on both sides of the coin. I just find it amusing that those who "stand up" for the "female who doesn't meet the normal societal view" cannot do so without insulting those who do fit into that view. There are women who have large breasts. There are women who are slender and tall and to say they cannot be taken seriously is as insulting as saying that muscular women are mannish. Which was my point.
When I see people who complain that female warriors having muscle make them mannish and then state that it's stereotyping to say that slender women can't be warriors just irritates me to no end. In the current fantasy game market almost all female charcters are incredibly slender and have matchstick arms, while the men are all massively ripped. It's annoying because the men are obviously being portrayed as how male warriors would probably look while womens builds are really just sexualised. There are some exceptions where women are given more muscle or the option to ahve more muscle and games like TERA where male physiques can be equally sexualised, but they are not the norm.
You can't pull the "discriminting against large breasted/ slender women card" because all people are asking for are the option to actually be something different for once, and it's a rather ridiculous card to pull in the first place. Yes some women have large breats- but how does this relate to female warriors jumping around with chainmail bikini's and matchstick arms? Is it not possible for women of such size to wear armour that covers them properly? I just don't see the point of it. I don't think anybody here has said all female avatars should be muscular and have no breats, and I don't think anybody would say that, so I don't see what your trying to say.
What is happening is that in this very thread someone responded to the idea of more body types with "We don't need fat guys or guys with the strength of a 10 year old" as if to imply that the male physique given to us in the last game is normal. People seem to mistake the physiques given in the game for realistic ones, saying that people with less muscle are "scrawny" when they are still more muscular than the average person in real life or that women are "mannish" when they actually have some muscle, as would be expected for women in a combat role. It's pretty sad.
So stupid comments about "offending slender women" and trying to be a smart-ass are not only pretty irrelevent when nobody said that there shouldnt be a slender option but also brushing aside a pretty big issue with no thought.
