I stick with "human", 'though "Quarian" could be interesting too.

Overall, I'm more or less loyal towards my species, that also includes fave romances.

If there is only one, it has to be human imo. Still hoping they could give us a choice of 4 or 5.

Man, I actually fantasized a game called Mass Effect: SpecTRes... or however you spell it... Where you can play as an Asari, Salarian (male only, due to female population), or Turian (male or female) Spectre... Heh, it sounds like a really expensive Spin off though, due to needing 4 voices for the main character...

But, to answer your question... Hmm... I am not sure, actually... I guess human... It will sell better, I guess... I don't mind being other races, but since Bioware is a business, it is better that way...

If the other characters, depending on which one you picked, were squadmates, you would not use any extra voice actors. They would have more lines though.

A female turian. They were only seen after the Omega DLC, and I think they would provide a refreshing and unique character perspective.

Not really. Garrus flirts with one in the Citadel DLC(only if MaleShep romancing Tali), the Cabal class in Multiplayer and the VIs in the Armax Arena.

Citadel was released after Omega, and the female turians there were not developed characters. What I am trying to say is that female turians were not especially common place or fleshed out in the game even in the DLCs (aside from Nyreen). Somewhat relevant, but I loved that the devs created an important female krogan character in the campaign, and I think creating characters not commonly seen or developed in game would be a good change for the next mass effect. Hope this clarifies my position.

I'd love to have more developed female alien characters as well, but i still rather have a human protagonist. But i think that at least the turian females will be more common in ME4 now that they actually established one in the me3 dlc, along with design and everything.

Human of course, with Quarians being a distant second. Though oddly enough, in a game with the choice of either or, I would do my first playthrough as a Quarian. However, I like having the option of a human character I can fall back on and relate too.

Human.

It has nothing to do with an unwillingness to accept an unconventional type of hero. Most of all, this is a ME game - I need the immersion. The entire fascination with sci-fi, to me, derives from a human like myself stumbling into all those wonderful things. It needn't be an exarggerated version of my very self to give me that immersion - you can always pretend to be a different person - but the experience needs to be relatable on what's downright a "gut level".

If Mordin tells me that the concept of marriage is non-existant among Salarians, because they cannot uphold the feeling of love long enough for it to make any sense; if Quarians chat about how difficult it is to live in an enviro-suit, and how they constantly have be careful not to eat levo-amino food... I honestly cannot relate to any of that.
Yes, my imagination makes for a certain level of comprehension what it could be like, but on the other hand, I know exactly what it's like to be in love, or to throw up bad food (association unintended) like a human does.

So yes, that's why it needs to be a human protagonist - in order to give me the same level of immersion the previous games did.

I thought the setting was unique in that humans have been galactic citizens for only 30 years. It's like the extreme rush of development that happened with the industrial age or computers nowadays. I thought there was a lot to explore about this. Now I'm not sure. They caused too many galactic wide changes right in the middle of humanity's infancy. All of the interesting bits of watching them learn the ropes has been lost. It doesn't matter what race is playable now. I guess anything works. Or nothing. Either/or.
