Loghain, was it your love for Rowan that turned you into a selfish psychopath or was it what happened to your family when you were a good for nothing thief?

But is the expansion set 3 years or more after the game?
I don't know, does it say when the expansion takes place? Does anyone know?

If it is set 3 years after the game, then Loghain is probably dead yes. Unfortunately.

Fernando Melo: Several months have passed since the end of
Origins, or more correctly, the end of the Blight,
which is the game's
focus for Origins. You are sort of thrust forward as the new Grey
Warden Commander in the land. You are given an area of the world which
we haven't explored previously called Amaranthine in the north of
Ferelden. Basically, there are lots of things that have been happening
there, lots of rumors; again, the Blight has just ended, so
communication is still very poor -- people are still not really
travelling the roads that much, etc. They're kind of sending you up
there to figure out what's going on and also to give the Grey Wardens
their rightful place back into the world based on what they've just
done.

Oh yea right, I remember. Thanks!
So in theory, Loghain should appear in Awakening.

Q: Do you like nugs?

A. Those hairless rodents the dwarves eat? I've never seen one that wasn't salt-cured. They're not bad with pancakes, I suppose.

This was most enlightening. I would never have guessed that.

Or he could be off scouting for Grey Warden recruits in the South. Would be nice to see him again, though. Especially if my character is his son-in-law.

Thank you Mary Kirby, for taking the time to post that for us. In all the game forums that I've been on over the years, I have never seen a writer post something for the sheer enjoyment of the fans.

Thank you, very much......;)

I hope all future dlc has a lot of dialogue with him. Return to Ostagar had some nice dialogue. He is my favorite party member.(Yes I was one of the people who downloaded it on 360 before it was taken down.)

Thank you for the interview! It was a great read (but I suppose I should also thank Loghain for taking the time out of his "busy schedule of brooding"  ;) )

You did a great job in writing Loghain... He's my favourite character too, I really hope to see him again! And if I do I'll cook him some delicious nug pancakes

Hey Logman, why were you trying to curry favor with my dog? I noticed that you were tryng to feed him treats and paying him compliments and stuff.

Yes, I was responsible for writing Loghain.

Then feel free to send me a PM with anything you can be bribed with into answering all those questions that drive the fans crazy about Loghain, Ostagar and well Loghain :innocent:

See, this is why I love Bioware. The writers/developers actually brave their forums and once in a while indulge their crazy fans with little gems of extra info or goofiness. And yes, I include myself in the "crazy fans" statement. :D

BTW, I read somewhere (forgot where) that you, Miss Mary Kirby, was the main writer for Loghain. Is this true?

Yes, I was responsible for writing Loghain.

Milady, I salute thee. You wrote a truely epic and in-depth character :)

My thoughts exactly. Is Loghain trying to weasel his way into my dog's favor, so when dog takes over and dethrones the maker, he gets to be high priest?

Tsk tsk.

Loghain's banter with Dog was incredible. I'm just sad he didn't have any campsite scenes with him.

NOBODY curries favor with my Dog and LIVES. Nobody. Loghain has sealed his fate on further playthroughs.

Well then, I love you since I absolutely loved Logain. :D I even felt guilty when I killed him.

I love Logain. ^__^ If I want to kill him on one of my playthroughs, I always make Alistair do it...The books have biased me towards him!

I love these interview snippets! I like Loghain, but I'll never let him survive another playthrough. I just like Alistair way too much. I'm waiting on my copies of the novels to arrive, so who knows, maybe I'll change my mind after I read them.

Hah agreed. I have never seen game writters anywhere else that took the time to answer fan questions like this on forums. Kudos to the writters.

I hate Loghain, and love to kill him every chance I get. He's an evil twisted psychopath. Great work! It's not often I get so emotionally invested in a game or characters that I really care very much at all.

Ok Mary, one simple question for you on an issue that has been nibbling at some of us.

Was Loghain in a position to see the battlefield at Ostagar? If he was, what was the point of the beacon? If he wasn't, how could he have known the battle was lost?

Lotion, it seems to me that before that question is relevant, we need to know what the signal to light the beacon was and what conditions were supposed to be met before it's use. We also would need to know what the 'canon' amount of time passed inside the Tower of Ishal. Perhaps the beacon was lit before enough time had passed, in Loghain's mind? What I mean is that if Loghain was expecting the forces at the base of the fortress to last at least an hour before needing to signal, but they actually only lasted half an hour, then that would tell Loghain that the enemy was over twice as powerful as he had predicted, and possibly too powerful for his own army to defeat. Or even if he did manage to defeat the darkspawn clustered there, it may have been a Pyrrhic victory. Without having seen the Archdemon yet, and the larger darkspawn force that would no doubt accompany it, losing his army then and there would (in his eyes) ensure Ferelden's failure in the Blight.

That's one possibility. I must confess that quite a bit of it is conjecture, because Loghain is his own worst advocate within the game, but it seems logical to me.
