Lawful evil lol bull they are mostly lawful netural as whole/order outside few individuals who were lawful evil or just other evil d&d alignment if templars were lawful evil their method would be harsher... so calling templars "evil" is desperate pro-mages crying because only ser arlik and karras were painted as black thats all 2 individuals in whole organisation it is very good score...

LN laws may be uncaring, but LE laws are actively punishing, which is what mages live with.

Yes it is one of type LN but you are wrong because LN will do what is beneficial for society using order and that what tempalrs are doing Lawful evil would use most effective ways in containing mages even if methods would be completely ruthless for sake order or just their own... meredith was lawful evil most templar is lawful netural and order as whole as well...
neutrals can be pretty much ruthless like jack sparrow who is chaotic neutral not chaotic evil...

Warden-Commander of the Grey
I must respectfully decline your first offer, and the second is not mine to accept.
Do not mistake my refusal as ingratitude, but you must understand my life belongs to the Templars. It is a decision made for me long ago, but it is one I embrace. I have found my place in the world, just as you have found yours. I am dedicated to protect Thedas from magical threats. ALL magical threats. Be they maleficar or demons.
I know of your Order's view on Blood Magic and therefore cannot guarentee your men's safety, despite the pressing dangers. Old hatreds run deep as you must well know yourself. While I do not condone your men's practice of it, I will not add to your problems by having my men hunt you. But I cannot actively work with Maleficars, or I will be called to the Spire for trial.
But if the situation is as dire as you say, then know you have an ally in me. Even if it must be from the shadows.
Ser Ian Leoncoeur
The letter's seal was found broken on delivery.
Ser Ian,
I understand your position and respect it. At the very least, should your duties ever bring you to Amaranthine, you will find a haven to rest and recuperate in the city walls.
Considering the position you made about mages, and the fact that I am also a mage, but not a maleficar, please do not take offense if I deny your men access to Vigil's Keep. The city of Amaranthine has a Chantry, chantry storehouse, a dungeon should you have apostates or maleficar in your care, and an inn where you and your men can stay. I may even be able to make room for your men in the garrison should the need arise.
May you find favor in the Maker's sight.
Daylen Amell. Acting Commander of the Grey in Ferelden.

Side order to the courier
Burn this letter after reading it. The seal was broken on his reply, so someone out there knows of my offer and his response. Expect trouble, whether from them or someone else on the road. I'll arrange discrete protection from my contacts among the crows.
Find out how zealous Ser Ian's men are when it comes to mages and report back ASAP. Don't take unnecessary risks.

Courier's report:
Warden-Commander when we arrived at Ser Leoncoeur's garrison a scene of death and carnage met us. The Templars have faced an unknown enemy in the own garrison, one which was evidently more powerful than they ever expected. We could find no survivors, though of Ser Leoncoeur himself there was no sign, other than this message.
