I wonder when they will start announcing the companions this time? I mean it is most likely a given that Varric and possibly Cassandra will be companions. I also wonder if they will wait till Valentines Day again to announce who can be romanced like they did with DA2?

They've generally announced companions(at least officially) in the few months prior to release to build up hype, so likely late summer 2014.

A good point - Flemeth was all over the DA2 trailers, yet only had two scenes in the first act. Don't expect a presence in the trailer to guarantee party status.

Waiting all the way to summer/fall 2014 seems likely though 
It seems Cassandra, Morrigan and Varric are all going to have parts in the game but it's a bit too soon to assume any of them will be companions just based on the trailer. Doesn't mean that they won't be though.

All the articles I can find revealing Dragon Age 2 companions were from Fall 2010, which was 4-6 months before the game's release. I doubt we'll get any companion info before 2014.

Cassandra's almost a guaranteed companion, not sure about Varric. He could be the narrator again or an npc.
