I play as a male, because playing as a female just feels like crap. When you're a female character, nobody ever treats you like a woman in any sense of the word. You never get to be feminine. Just a lumbering ox who happens to have boobs. I despise everyone treating a female character like she's one of the men, or she's ugly.

I don't get that impression at all.

A hooker at the Blooming Rose tells Female Hawke that "she's no prize".

Enough said.

There's a coupla reasons I usually play a female. The guys are too muscular, even if you're a mage and it's off putting. Male heroes are incredibly passe. I detest the male voice actors for ME and DA2. I also disliked the wrinkles on default MHawke. WHY DO YOU HAVE WRINKLES YOU ARE ONLY 25 GOSH. I like strong women. And I find it really, really hard to make an attractive male in the CC. The muscles don't help. I can't help but think my Hawke is a total bro with those biceps.

I'm open to playing either gender.

However, in DA, the number is skewed towards male. In Origins, I played two out of three Wardens as male because of RP preferences and in DA2 I just couldn't stand the female Hawke VA.

I always play as female because i like RP as myself, so even if i have multiple playthroughs I usually end up making the same decisions

Nope. I always play female. Does alot for the immersion. Don't enjoy playing as a male.I have made male characters, but I never end up finishing the game with them, and in those cases it was just to experience some of the romance options. In DA2 where all romances are the same regardless of gender I haven't found any reason for me to make a playthrough with a male character. Maybe to experience the different VAs, but I don't think I'll play through the entire game for that.

I like playing at least once as each gender. It's generally the same exact experience, but some pleasant surprises arise from doing it sometimes.

I've always used female characters for my first playthrough of Bioware games (so far) but have used male characters in subsequent playthroughs or as the first character in other games (KOTOR2, Fable 2)

I always play my gender, ever since playing games on SNES to today, I prefer to play girls. I'm still a little girl at heart it seems :P.

Nor do I, although the portrayal of woman as just as capable as men plays a large part in the reasons I enjoy BioWare's games so much.  I've never felt that their characters weren't regarded as attractive women as well as BAMFs, outside of the snark of one prostitute.  If anything, I found the opposite: people more often commented on my female PC's appearance than they do my males.

BioWare allows me to play gay males, so I don't see the point in playing straight females [edit: on my first playthroughs]. I do like however playing as female characters once in a while to try a different perception to the story. I'm male, so obviously my first choice would be playing as a male. If the default protagonist used for marketing was female, I don't think it would sell because most gamers I know are sexist. Sexism, sadly is everywhere, but it's worst in gaming industry in my opinion because non-gamers are so used to the image of male players ****** to female ladies constantly... Anyways, my point is you can't change people if they don't want to change themselves. The gender of the protagonist is only subjective and should remain as is.

Edit: Not sure if people will understand where I'm coming from...

My character will be female most of the time when given the option. No exception has been made as of now and I doubt Inquisition will change that.

That line isn't gender specific.

Still. I don't appreciate everyone acting like my character is ugly after all the effort I put into making him/her attractive.

Just remember that beauty is subjective to the eye of the beholder.

I though in context it was an f-u, beacuse I recall it only triggers if you mock her looks.

I play different genders in different games.

Whether I go male or female in this one will depend on the voice acting and whether there are any LIs I'm going to bother pursuing.
