so im getting tired of watching my team standing there asking me for potions while i have givin them all sorts of items in they're inventorys. so i messed around with the character behavures and saw there was a setting for characters to use items. this i assumed when turned on would have my characters use potions and scrolls (whatever) when they need it. but when i turned it on i saw no change in behavure at all.
im sure theres like 10 topics about this somewhere here already but you guys mind telling me whats up?

You need to turn their spellcasting on. Yes, "spellcasting" controls item usage.

No, that should be enough (unless you want them to use potions all the time)... I guess "use potions and healing items" is also on, right? If so, it should work, AFAIK.
I don't think it makes any difference in this particular case, but have you installed the complete version of Tony K's AI?

Tony K.'s AI is a mod for companion and monster AI that was so good, that portions of it were officially incorporated into later expansions of the game.

Another thing - they won't bother taking a healing potion that's too low a level to help. The potion has to average a certain percentage of their hit points to get their attention.
They tend to be a lot more likely to use healing kits than potions. And you can buy an unlimited number of kits in a couple towns whose names I just edited out because this is the No Spoiler subforum, but you passed through them on the way to the big city.
p.s. Here's Tony K's: http://nwvault.ign.c...&comment_page=9
Be advised that it introduces some quirks of its own. On the whole it's an improvement, but some people hate it.
And yes to your question - "Use Healing and Curing Items" is a separate setting with the full Tony K's AI - although it was put in mainly to allow players to turn it OFF (the AI used to burn through potions much faster before one or more of the patches), so I'm not sure it will help this issue for you; I think the default AI that you have equals Tony K's ON setting.

The main issues are (1) some graphical glitches where character X will be shown with character Y's gear (this can be minimized by turning off "Automatic Weapon Switching" for the main PC); (2) swapping weapons (melee vs. missile) at times many players don't agree with; (3) it changes many of the spellcasting and targetting priorities which many players found jarring, but as a new player who's not set in your ways, this shouldn't be as big a deal for you; (*) a personal annoyance that I'm not sure others find annoying - often switching to a shield with no weapon when casting, when there's just no excuse for not having a weapon equipped plus it looks dumb.
As for the using only higher level potions - that goes for both the default AI and Tony K's. When NWN2 was new, there was a lot of grousing about the characters wasting healing potions and spells, so the designers toned it way down in the later versions.
I really seem to recall there are some settings you can manipulate for when to heal and how much, but I looked in the game last night and couldn't find them. It may be in a 2da file or script you can mod with the toolset.

The bottom one - compmonai2.2.zip - is all you need. The "bug and feature list" couldn't hurt, but isn't necessary.
