So I play on XBOX 360 - I just finished Redcliffe Castle (casting the demon out of Connor). Leliana's approval is probably in the 80s range, and I think I already saw the dialogue about bards and minstrels as spies - she seems to have glossed over it.
I've tried giving her feastday pranks to lower her approval and get the dialogue back, but that hasn't worked, nor has cranking up the romance and then breaking it off. Is it too late, or is there another sequence I can use?

The approval and answers needs to get you to marjolaine, the ambush, confrontation, and the hardening conversation.

Not exactly sure what is the problem. Have you done the Marjolaine quest, but haven't received the option to harden her? To get the 'minstrels as spies' convo you mustn't have too high approval.
There is only one opportunity to harden her.

I think the mistake may be that I got her approval too high before returning to camp after asking about minstrels and spies. I had the triggering conversation, but now I can't seem to get the ambush or any conversation about Marjolaine. Checking your details now...
