At what point did it become clear to you that there was no hope for redeeming the endings?

And the controversial part of this is... anything?

Never mind that he actually posted that before the release, and the ending uproar. It's not even about the ending: it's just a case for how to better appreciate the import feature and carryover effects.

Didn't say it was or wasn't.

Just confirming it was, in fact, said.

Which it was.

Now what?

As Dean_The young mentions, Chris posted that because it would give you a clear indication of how different the game feels with a new Shepard versus a "perfect/canon" Shepard.

I'd say the depressing unavoidable suckage of the endings would make a lot more sense with a borderline failShep that si the nonimport version.

Too bad they didn't think to add one for people who actually import a good playthru

But you should try the secret purple ending, and it's already in the game.

If you play ME3 with a new Shepard, and knowing nothing of the other 2 games, the game is really depressing and it actually fits the ending. I guess that's why Bioware said ME3 is a good place to start.

I could see how that works. You would fail on so many key ways that the ending would be nothing in comparison.

It was one intended outcome. Yes, INTENDED. Mac Walters said he expected the endings would provoke discussion and debate, and thus draw more attention to the series.

The difference is, Mac Walters thought the original ending was perfectly fine and that there was nothing wrong with it at all. He grossly overestimated his ability as a writer to deliver a 'high concept' ending at the finale of an action-oriented military space opera.

And he was completely blindsided by the fan reaction, because he didn't allow his work to be peer-reviewed.

Pretty much this.

Which is fine but suggesting it for your first playthrough is pretty bad.

I find it weird how the Last of us has an ending that is arguably worse than ME3's and yet people herald as the best game of this generation.

Well that's absolute bull**** that hurts my brain to even look at, but alright.

It has a pretty grim end dude. It is rather emotionally unfulfilling, just like ME3.

The whole game was filled with emotionally tumultuous scenarios. It was also standalone, and its ending was, well, pretty good. The choice he makes is stupid, yes, but it fit with the rest of the game, the rest of the story, and was an extension of the character, and the ending fit into the universe, and was foreshadowed.   Yes, it may be even grimmer than ME3's ending to some, (I strongly disagree) but at least it makes sense.

By redeeming I mean, all of the brilliant fan theories that would have made everything better ending up wrong, a grand expansion never coming, things of that nature.

I'm gonna have to go with as soon as Omega came out.

All my endings are MEHEM based:P

This is the first time i have posted on here, but i have been reading the forums for a year or two.How are we all :D
The ending just felt wrong on this game. After spending years immersing myself in the mass effect universe to find the game giving me three choices that went against everything i thought Shepard stood for.A choice between being a reaper and killing anyone you wanted like a tyrant, changing everyone to synthetic/organic hybrids against there will,or committing genocide.
I thought Shepard was the man who could make a difference in the mass effect universe,i don't care if he lives or dies.I only wanted him to be the guy who made the difference. No matter what and without compromise,on his terms. The endings made me feel i made no difference, with too much compromise and on the terms of the reapers. It made me feel hopeless.
Even though it's been a long time,i still have a tiny bit of hope that the next time i fire up ME3 on my xbox, there will be a large download waiting free of charge with a full blown mind bending ending with a message from bw simply saying
I will fight for freedom,mine and everyone's.
I fight for the right to choose our own fate,
and if i die,
i'll die knowing that i did everything i could to stop you.
And i'll die free.
or maybe a joke about a mass effect toothbrush :)

Probably when EC came out and I realised IT wasn't their master plan.
