i don't necessarily want to PLAY in first person (would take too much changing to the formula, i think), but id have no issue with being able to zoom in and look at things in first person while standing in place.

This exactly, and this is all I would use a first person camera for. After installing the hi-res texture pack for DA2 you can bet I took a good long time to walk around and admire the scenery and clothing/armor textures, angling my camera in various ways to look past my character.

DA was originally about tactical combat (group positioning, traps, backstabs, etc) and that isn't really doable in first person..

Yeah, I don't think first person really works in party rpgs (whenever you had anyone with you in TES it just didn't work) because the game is more about using the group. There are elements of DA that could have had a first person mini-game (the stealthier rogue skills) but I don't really see that a first person view will add anything to the game in general.

To be honest I prefer the first person view in general, but I don't think it would work in the kind of game DA:I will presumably be.

Wouldn't mind a zoom option. I don't know how many paintings in the DA universe I've wanted a closer look at but couldn't do it. =(

Doesn't really work with the party based combat. Plus if they truly are going mote tactical for daI then that would just make it even more of a useless option. I hate first person game playanyway.

I support the option.
I would properly end up playing in first person mode as I find third person makes games too easy.

I don't play first person games, and it doesn't bring anything to immersion. Not to mention its another waste of resources for animations and its going to be a group based RPG which doesn't work with first person view.

I personally don't like first person. I could not play Skyrim because of this. Yes, I know you could do third person, but it sucked imo. I like to see the character I created. Also, I like to stop and listen to banter and I usually use the subtitles so first person would not work well for that.

It wouldn't work with the type of game DA is.

It would have to be even more of a hack and slash game.

I'm a third-person perspective kind of person. For all genres of games, from shooters to open-world exploration to RPGs to action adventure. I do not enjoy first person, or the wibbly-wooblies and headaches it gives me.

That said, I'm not against an option to have both first and third perspectives available to those that want them. Think similar to Elder Scrolls or Fallout open-world games. You can play in third or in first and it works fine enough for me. If DA moves toward that open-world direction, and they gave an *option* to switch to first person perspective, I wouldn't be against it. I recognize some might like it and enjoy it. Though myself, I'll stick with third person forever.  I spend hours and hours customizing and creating characters in chargen.  Why wouldn't I want to see my superfly character interacting with the world and her friends?

I don't like first-person. It denies me the sort of situational awareness I would have if I were actually there - things like peripheral vision, or auditory cues. I even play TES in third-person.

And how exactly does FP vs TP impact the difficulty of games? Outside of the arbitrary difference of the FP view often feeling compact/claustrophobic and like you're never really able to get a good feel for the entire environment (in my limited experience).

Weird. No one (except maybe one person) wants the option to zoom in? That's basically what I meant in my OP....

:/

I would never play DA in first person (just thinking about it makes my brain hurt), but being able to zoom in at stuff would be AWESOME. I want to be able to drool over all the pretty objects the Frostbite engine is going to create, and I'll be able to do that better if I can zoom right in on stuff.

I've never been comfortable with a fully zoomed in view. Assuming DA:I is still a party-based game what I would really, really like the Zoom Out feature restored to its DA:O state, possibly even further out.
