Unless you plan to pay good money for a decent voice changer people will realize you're using one, all the free/cheap ones are recognizable as soon as you say more than a few words.

To me it doesn't matter if people are male, female or something else. Why should it?
I prefer to hang out with women - I don't have to deal with machismo and other ridiculous "male" nonsense. 

For the physical equipment or the technical programs? The physical equipment required looks cheap enough. 
As for the tech/programs. Hmm, it's the internet. Everything can be 'cheap'.


It matters. You just demonstrated this yourself. 

It's the software used to alter voices. Without going into details it's similiar to the sound quality of a mp3 compared to a CD recording. There is a reason why proper sound editing software is expensive and requires lots of processing power and memory. The cheap programs solve that by cutting out all frequencies not audible to human ears, just like mp3 and voice chat compression codecs do, too. People are still aware of it subconsciously and someone with good hearing or a background like a classical musician will pick up on it quickly.

Most programs are unable to transform the full range of the human voice in a believable manner, you will always get sounds that don't fit. And while you can get away with a lot by using the excuse of a cheap microphone or a bad internet connection, sooner or later people are going to realize that your voice is fake.
Most of those programs shift your voice by an octave or two, then smooth out or even surpress frequencies in it. The problem is that a human being makes a lot of different sounds and those don't sound quite right. It could be something simple as the sound of your breath sounding wrong or some background noise being altered in a noticable manner.

In the end you'd have to restrict yourself to very short sentences and not talking much at all. I don't think that would be worth the trouble.
Instead you should look for people who appreciate you more for who you are.


Let's overlook the fact that you put together two sentences out of context ... perhaps I should have explained it better. To me it doesn't matter what you are but who you are as long as we're talking about playing together. It's not like I'm going to talk much with anyone anyway.
Outside of gaming, on a more personal level (let's call it online friendship), I still don't treat people differently... but I do find it easier to talk with women than with men. I don't see that as hypocrisy but I guess it would be more obvious to an outside observer. Well, I'm just human and allowed to have a few flaws.
