Why is it that whenever I decide to head into Quick Match, I either get put into a match in progress where 2 out of 3 people are dead, and one is about to bleed out?

You're the white knight, when all is lost you are the superhero sent to save the mission. :)

Seriously I love those kind of PUGs more than any other, but they are so very rare to find, I'm jealous if you're finding them often! It's great saving arriving to save a mission when everyone else is down and has given up hope. At the same time there's no real pressure - you're just an unknown underdog and none of the 3 spectators watching you has right to judge you if you fail.

If you are good at kiting and don't mind letting your teammates bleed out, you can (sometimes) carry a hack wave dpending on how far along it was before the team creamed. It's likely to continue on following waves though, unless the other players suddenly get some sense to survive without gels (which does happen surprising often after a near team wipe experience). But you know, if I want to solo, I'd play solo, and don't need/get excited by getting a carry epeen.

Dropping into a plat PUG wave 2 with everyone down is a 'challenge'. 1 krogan warlord that ran up to every enemy and died before he had a chance to swing the hammer , and 2 Juggs that wanted to melee everything to death. Wave 3 escort disaster with Juggs on other side of map meleeing enemies and a suicidal Krolord

Today must be a crappy day for PUGing (at least for me).

This morning did have some pretty terrible PUGs, my friend. Had to switch to RDR because my back hurt.
Thankfully, for the last two matches I played I had someone on my FL join my lobby randomly so those went smoothly.

I usually try to complete objectives and help/revive teammates during any game. I guess I'm one of the few who don't really care about points.

If they did any of that, I'd be fine. I wouldn't complain at all, but they seem to be allergic to Waves 3, 6, and 10.

That's my point, PUGs try to go solo and rack up as many kills as possible, which usually ends in utter disaster. At least they can provide a distraction, while I complete the objectives. It sucks, but it's often the only possible way to go.

Speaking from the perspective of a PUG with a low-ass N7 and Challenge score, I do really bust hump to get as many kills as humanly possible in games (though I do my best to cover objectives first and revive people... when I can), not because I'm a narcissistic douchebag, but because I want my teammates to look at the scorecard and not go "why the **** did we take this dude again?"  It's embarassing to look like a scrub and I can't imagine anybody does it on purpose lol.

Score is not always indicative of one's usefulness. If I see someone aiding with objectives and teammates in need of help, detonating primed targets(or priming them correctly for teammates) and not dying then that makes me happy and is good for the team. If you're scoring low while dying, overriding primed targets with something that won't affect said targets and missiling single targets/spawns that are not endangering an objective at all then those things create embarrassment.
Not always going to score good in every lobby there, guy. Just be a great help and contribute, don't let them shiny points mesmerize you.

As people are saying, you could use this board to find some reliable people to play with. From what I have heard, there are some pretty awesome people playing on PS3.

It's pretty much a rule for me now to leave if it sticks me in an ongoing match where I don't recognize any names, so I'd leave if I was in your shoes.

Not sure about the pugs though, it's a dice roll, for example yesteday I pugged Platinum and got a lobby set to Ghost/Cerb and with one other decent player who was using a Jugg. The other two looked pretty bad, a Huntress with an Arc I and a TGI (he looked medicore I guess). I nearly left the lobby, but decided to go for it, and bam! 2 games with 2 full extractions. I might have topped the score board, but it wasn't by much, we ended pretty evenly.

I guess that you never know with pugs, although I have noticed that rage gelling in the first 3 waves is common, so I suspect that matches usually go bad where that happens and I put a little more effort into reviving them early on.

Also play with people in the AHF or the platinum lobby, or friend me and I'll play.

My favourite ever PUG was one where I dropped into a gold game vs Reapers on reactor with a Huntress.

The first thing I saw was a skull as one of the player was sync'd, the next was a little Volus who ran straight up to me and didn't leave my side the whole match.

Despite him scoring virtually no points I would happily have played with him again as it was like having infinite shields.

Ended up with my biggest ever Gold score.

Yes, how low my score was, usually directly correlated with how much I aided others. Unless I played human soldier, then I aided them by killing everything on the map. :D

Score in indicative of nothing, especially because assist points bone you in the end. :]

Realistically, the person who gets the final hit on the enemy is going to get more points than you no matter what so...

You and me think the same...Image IPB...i too love being dropped into those types of games where everybody is wiped and everybody is looking at you to clutch the wave...it's like HQ has sent you in as backup because the mission was on the verge of failing, and then you come in and clean up the mess....Image IPB.......i love those types of games more than anything else....what sucks tho is if you don't clutch the wave and you give those fallen teammates a false sense of hope....Image IPBImage IPB
