assuming our societies survive that long.I doubt it will work that way.
And I doubt your puritan vision of the future will happen. Perhaps we'll all die in some cataclysmic apocalypse, perhaps we'll colonize space, who knows? But I do truly doubt that parents are going to start being 'stricter' on their daughters when it comes to forms of entertainment. That truly does not make any sense to me. At all.

Still, I don't think this has much to do with my gender, but with my personal preference. There are many guys out there that prefer story over violence as well.
In any case, I'm happy that we females aren't completely outnumbered!

Based on especially the parts about primary console by gender and sales by game rating, I was expecting to see some heavy stratification going on.

As a long time female gamer (and tomboy) I have to say - bollocks to the other girls who don't like blowing **** up. It can be lots of fun!
That being said though, I do much prefer character/story driven games and tend to gravitate towards RPGs the most... But my second most often played games are action/adventure, so there's lots of violence (cartoonish or realistic) to go around.
I am also a long time female gamer and tomboy and I'm older <sigh>. I've always thought it was sort of a chicken and egg thing. Do women
not play because of the violence or do they not play because there are
not very many female characters to play.
My childhood tv idol was Annie Oakley and The Girl from UNCLE and Mrs. Peel in the Avengers. I got really upset when my boy cousins got toy guns and I got a brush and mirror set for Christmas by aunts who thought I wouldn't want what the boys got. I'll play a game if it's good no matter what the character is, but if if I have a choice between two games I consider good, I'll pick the one that lets me play a female. I also prefer rpgs with a good story over shooters any day. Shining Force, Uncharted Waters New Horizons; Chrono Trigger' zelda, Laura C....... Then I found Baldurs Gate and fell in love.

Personally, I don't mind violence in games. But I also fit the stereotype somehow, I've always preferred story over gratuitous violence. Randomly shooting things in games can be fun too, but I get bored pretty easily if there's no story.

I am the same way and i can vouche for the personal preference ideal...because well I'm a guy, and I get bored as hell with shooters.
I can play Modern Warfare 2 for like 45 minutes and then I'm like, "okay, what is the point of this? I shoot him, he shoots me, then we respawn. We are technically not getting anywhere, if i come back tomorrow he will still be wanting to shoot me/respawn/shoot me, also 10 years from now, same outcome.
The only shooter I actually WANT to play is Left 4 Dead, that may be because of the team effort ideal, or because I just really love zombies. but either way, same thing.
It isn't the violence that turns me off, its the monotony of the gameplay. i need story driven, wonderful goodness to sate my thirst for gaming.
I can play Halo for an hour tops.
I can play Dragon Age/Mass Effect/Final Fantasy non-stop all day if time constraints/college/food requirements/exercise allowed.
I think it is less of a guy vs. girl thing, and more of a "what type of game do you love" thing.

I think a poll with
Male/playing male
Male/playing female
Female/playing male
Female/playing female
Would have been better.

The whole debate on rather female gamers this male gamers that, the future this, the future that.
Its pointless really. I will always play video games, I like them, I live them, I'm a female..so what? If I was the only one on earth, it still wouldn't matter....its just a matter of what someone likes.

Gaming is a man sort of thing. Guess it all stems with games generally and historically involving violence and killing things. Which is a very guy sort of thing. Plus the computer game industry is still very male orientated. Software design and computer engineering are the sort of courses Males study at University.
Females in nature arnt as temperamental as men and hence dont go for this violence which is embedded in almost all computer games.
You got trolled. Prepare for the PC police
