I made a rogue recently and specced him duelist without really understanding the points would go to waste if I always have Alistair tanking everything... So it makes me wonder, should I pump lots of points into Dex and become my own tank, replacing Alistair in the group? I wanted to be a backstabbing kind of rogue but I am not aware of any respeccing in this game and I have made so many new characters due to similar mistakes that that isnt really an option. I figure a defensive duelist would be fun anyhow, but how should he be played, what weapons should I use and what 2nd spec will work with it? Thank you

I played a rogue tank and what I did was got enough strength to wear suitable armor and then pump dexterity for the rest. And since your not a warrior with taunt you have to make use of dual weapons sweep and whirlwind since their basically the main threat drawer. Next make sure you run in front of the party at all time if you want to be the main tank so the enemies surround you then bring melee fighters in. Lastly for weapons I just used dual daggers does not matter which and put hale rune and dweomer runes in them and the 2nd spec does not really matter but I chose ranger since bard and assassin are cunning based. Sorry for the wall text and also I am pretty sure their something explaining a rogue tank in the dragon age wiki. Overall the dex tank becomes unhittable eventually especially with evasion talent.

Thank you very much. I think I will try what you say. In the past I mostly ignored those runes but that was also with a heavy armored shield toting Alistair lol. As a rogue I'm sure I'll need 'em a bit more.
