What do you think might disappoint you about DA3?

Given that the amount of information we truly know abut DA3 could fit into a small zip-lock bag, a lot of everything that's floating around this forum is speculation.

But that being said, do you have high or low expectations for Inquisition? What would disappoint you about this game (i.e. if there was a lack of characters, short quest line, etc.). What would you absolutely NOT want to see in DA3? And what would disappoint you if some sort of something did not make it into the game?

EDIT: if you're talking about previous games, try to stick to constructive criticism. Saying, "DA2 sucked nug brains" isn't helping anyone.

Well DAI being similar in the fashion of how ME3 turned out on a whole would disappoint me greatly, but I think that would not happen again. To be honest I do not know what would disappoint me purely because I do not know what will be in DAI. The only thing that I was disappointed from DA was the one city location and only having the outskirts of Kirkwall to visit in DA2, Hawke being more expressive in voice would have made the exploration of the DA a lot more enjoyable, but I felt shut out to the world by the walls of Kirkwall. That is my only criticism of DA so far. Nothing else made me grit my teeth.

That the game ends up being DA2.2  but with larger maps.

"Golden" solutions to problems. I kind of disliked situations like the Save Connor with Lyrium and cure the Werewolves / save the Dalish. While there should be bright spots of hope in Thedas, I dislike having a meta reason for choosing one option over another because I know it has no consequence. :/

It being anything like ME3, with nonsensical plots and extreme OOC'ness from characters for "teh dramaz", and the end being an utter mess of unexplained crap and speculations that address nothing.

Or like DA2 where the protagonist does nothing apart from kill loads of people, act like a moron and make everything worse.

Yeah, having anything like that in DAI would greatly disappoint me.

DA2 revisited. Poor graphics, plot, and character development.

I'm cautiously optimistic about DA:I. I enjoyed both DA:O and DA2 despite the rather significant rush job on the latter.

I guess the thing that would disappoint me the most would be the roleplaying gutting that happened in ME3. Roleplaying for me is about more than a few key plot points where I get to pick A or B. It's about what my character thinks, feels, and does on a day-to-day basis. It's about the nature of his/her relationships. ME3 prescribed many of those things for me, literally putting words in Shepard's mouth, and that was very off-putting.

I'll answer these in order...

I'm trying to keep my expectations somewhere in the middle. I'm looking for an immersive game, with good characters and great banter. I think those points will be met.

What would disappoint me is if the game didn't get released.

I could do without giant spiders, but if they show up, I won't curse anyone. My eyelid might twitch in frustration though.

I'd be disappointed if cheese wheels failed to make an appearance.

The plot.
DA's team bit quite a big fish when they decided to implement the "freedom vs security" theme in their games. It has for strong storylines but, let's face it, there is absolutely no way they are going to finish it in a satisfying manner especially if they intend to have it serve just as another conflict to solve in preparation for closing the gigantic rift in the Fade; which in of itself seems to suggest they are returning to the true and tried method of "Defeat the Big Bad".
The real world hasn't managed to come up with a satisfactory answer for this question and we don't have to take videogame limitations into account. So, I think Bioware just bit off more than they could chew.

Pandering to the (admittedly large) section of the fanbase that hated DA2.

Low expectations

Every game the quanaris horns seem to grow considerably. Why do they keep changing their appearance?

Something that disappoints me.

I dunno, theorizing about what might disappoint me in a year and a half seems... silly? Needlessly pessimistic?

Qunari were supposed to have horns from the get-go, but they wanted Sten to be able to wear helmets, so he became a 'hornless' one and they just reused his model in DAO due to cost and ease. With the Arishok I suppose they wanted people to know he was the biggest badass of them all, hence his horn size and structure.

Are they changing them again in DAI or something?

A movement toward generic fantasy.

- A glut of happy magic.
- Happy forest elves.

And anything that has to do with blood magic (which, hopefully Bioware got out if its system in DA 2 - since that entire game was about my most hated aspect of DA)

The qunari we saw in the trailer that may or may not be Iron Bull had more horizonal, bovine horns and looked bulkier than Arishok.

In my opinion, variance in body mass and characteristic physical features like horns(especially for someone that might be a companion) is a good thing. It helps make the species feel more diverse, more "real" in a way.

Ah, so it was him...yes, I agree with you; I have no problems with variants among the qunari, rather than just being re-skinned clones. You get variants with elves, dwarves and humans so it would be odd if all qunari looked the same.

For me, high.  The extension on development time, the reassurances about learning from DA2's mistakes, etc. have given me reason to hope.

What would disappoint you about this game (i.e. if there was a lack of characters, short quest line, etc.).

I would be disappointed by:
  • Boring wave combat;
  • Locked weapons (as in, Warriors can't use bows, etc.);
  • Small scope/map (one thing i disliked about DA2 regardless of execution);
  • Repetitive or reused dungeon maps (I would like creative and maybe even deep, multi-level dungeon maps, with at least unique layout for each area);
  • Companions without their own stories (although BioWare is amazing at this, I want them to know it means a lot to me);
  • Not very customizable companions (no or few armor choices and lacking access to certain skill trees - like not being to make any rogue an archer or any mage a healer);
  • Focus on auto-dialogue and reduced freedom of conversation with companions (I loved being able to chat on-the-fly with companions in Denerim, Redcliffe, etc. in DAO and disliked plot-trigger conversations like in DA2) and dialogue tree errors (such as choosing an option to ask question and then only being able to say "That's all" or equivalent);
  • Lackluster journal with no sub-goals, quest markers, or sufficient detail;
  • Any decrease or inequality in LIs for male straight, female straight, gay, lesbian, or bi- orientations; and
  • Boring crafting system (I didn't quite like DAO's or DA2's crafting... I would like something that feels more hands-on and less "just UI").
... to name a few things.

What would you absolutely NOT want to see in DA3?

I would absolutely NOT want to see a male-only protagonist (though this is pretty unlikely).

And what would disappoint you if some sort of something did not make it into the game?

I would be disappointed if the following didn't make it in:
  • New talents and skill trees; and
  • Cunning and intimidation checks (I miss them!).
I'm sure there is more, but this is all that's on my mind for now.

The game being bad.

Realistically, I expect to have issues with gameplay, owing to the new engine. There are also some story developments I would find disappointing, though I don't know that it would truly affect my opinion of the overall game.

The main fear I have is that there would be too little political intrigue in it for me. I'll admit that my expectations of the game (and most bioware games for that matter) are rather high. What I don't want to see is the plot being handled in the same way as Origins, not to say that origins was bad but, as I said at the start, I'm hoping for more focus on the political side of the war. At least as an optional path we can take through the story.

As always, I am going in with low expectations. These low expectations let me enjoy DA2, ME3 and TOR.
