Pessimist in me tells that Bioware can't do worse than in ME3. Optimist in me tells that Bioware can do much much worse.

1) Bad story or a decent one with atrocious ending could be the biggest issue. I have doubts that their writers can write a morally gray story.

2) Primitive combat system with almost no tactics as in DA2. DA:O has MMORPG-like combat system with many flaws, but it was much better than "click button and AWESOME happens".

3) Linear narrative and lack of sidequests can be annoying too.

4) Is asking for better graphics/animations/cut-scenes too much?

- linear plot and choices with no consequences whatsoever in game;
- only one solution to every problem (bloodbath), instead of different approaches (gathering of informations, solutions based on skills/abilities/attributes/companions present or something of the like);
- fetch quests instead of proper sidequest;
- MP mode instead of simple MP features like updating our protagonist to the BSN.

Other things might disappoint me, but these are the major ones, the things that, if present, would not make me buy the game.

I have no expectations for this game, reasons being simply that there isn't enough information on it yet for me to develop any.
Anyhow, things that would disappoint me about it:
  • Endings similar to ME3 (for the sake of the teams sanity as well as the fanbase so we don't go through the whole "ARG! Y U NO GIVE BETTER ENDING BIOWARE!? which might lead yet again to free dlc to quell the outrage and a slide show added on extended ending followed by endless topics on the subject like we do now).
  • Multiplayer that affects single-player: I liked ME3s fine in the beta, but once the game came out I just didn't touch it. If Bioware insists in putting in a MP, I'll deal just like I did with ME3s, but please don't have it impact SP.
  • Decisions/choices being watered down to assests.
  • Return of the Rivalry/Friendship system from DA2. (I truely hated this affection system. Unless you purposely try to gain a frienship or rivalry with a specific character, you'll just end up in the middle-ground which irritated me. When I play games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age where the choices and responses are mine to make, I pick them in accordance to how I would respond if I was directly being asked. THis, however, ended up working against me with the Friendship/Rivalry system because practically my entire team I ended up in the middle with based on my answers. I don't think I got 100 points with anyone excpet maybe Anders since I agreed on the poor treamtment of mages. I liked the Affection system of Dragon Age Origins.
  • Main character disappears after the ending....again
  • Limited exploration ala DA2. Wouldn't mind having multiple areas to go to again like in origins. 2 was way too limited since the only places we could go to centered around Kirkwall.
  • Poor storyline (kind of in the mindset of this not happening seeing as the team is giving themselves more time to work on the game.)
  • No revealing of what happended to the Warden and Hawke.
  • This is an opinion: Please find a happy medium between the DA2 combat system and the Origins combat system. I liked that origins required actual tactics in combat though the combat animations were kind of silly (i.e. watch mage stand there and poke enemy with a stick where DA2 team members had more animation to their combat moves.)
I could probably add more, but I can't think of them at the moment.

If they dumb it down even more, I will be disapointed.

If Multiplayer affects the singleplayer game in any way.

Cartoonish combat.

Dragon Age 2 elves.

No customization for companions.

I'll go for RPG mechanics and combat, not Bioware's strong suit. I'll still likely enjoy the game because of Bioware's usual strength of story, characters and world, but combat and RPG systems have always been a weak point that I don't think they ever did really well at.

DAO's RPG systems are a more 'dumbed-down' version of Baldur's Gate 2. Attributes to pick are more straightforward. Equipments are based of this 'systemized' tier levels that broke immersion for me - I prefer lesser but more meaningful items. Skills (survival, trap-making, herbalism, poison making etc) can be useful but to be honest I don't really use them - so much potential lost there because it's not that compelling. Potions are just the standard lesser, normal, greater, etc variation of mana and health variant - one can basically stock up on these and get through most of the tough fights in the game, further discouraging tactics. Mages can be so powerful because of overpowered spells; so powerful that often it's not about using different spells in different situations (what they call tactics), it's often about reusing the same set of spells over and over again. Stun locks and burst damage oftentimes degenerate fights into tedious exercises rather than true tactical battles. Elemental distinctions (fire, cold, spirit, nature) are of often little note save for a few enemies. There was no ability to dual or multiclass, but with four specializations for each class. Look at the poor enemy design - each enemy has a one dimensional purpose and without the other class type that complement their purpose, tactics become rinse and repeat priority lists. There were less choices of weapons.

DA2 in general was even worse. Silly over the top animations. Attributes seemed like a skeleton of their former past, which is even more straightforward than DAO, where there should be meaningful choices on how one chooses to level up, but there are usually one or two obvious choices that one should take, defeating the purpose. Combat of degenerates into an exercize of managing cooldowns. Equipments were even more systemized, with a big flaw of new items quickly replacing 'legendary' gears that were picked up moments before. Only certain classes can carry certain weapons. Team-based combos - categorizing combos into abstract concepts (stagger, brittle, etc)  - breaks immersion for me as they seemed not to make sense in an intuitive way; also, they can often be so powerful that it often becomes an exercise of rinse and repeat to be used in nearly all situations.

Two things would disappoint me:
- Using the Frostbite 3 to make a beautiful game but ignoring what it's capable of gameplay-wise.
- Focusing on fanservice. I don't want private jokes every 5 minutes (Calibrations, enchantment, etc.). This is the only aspect of the trailer that worries me (if you don't know anything about Dragon Age, how can you be excited by this game?). They keep saying they're listening to the fans and their audiences, I hope they'll listen to themselves.

If it's an open ending like ME3...that would annoy me to no end, also even if the game leaves me with more questions than answers, and Bioware will never address them, that would instally be a hell no I want my money back methord

Donkey eared elves, DAO style combat, Morrigan character destroyed, multiplayer, grimdark just to be arty, bath robes for mages and ghastly Mage hats. Every Mage and Templar are nut jobs and attack for no reason and waves of parachuting ninja enemies. Day/ night cycle (DA2 night/ day maps preferred ) open/ sandbox type world with endless wandering.

- A combat system that keeps any of the DA:2 elements. An abomination of a hybrid between an rpg system and a brawler type system. Bland, watered down and boring.

- A voiced character and a conversation wheel. In Mass Effect this worked because I always got a feel that I was watching a sci-fi movie about Sheppard, and I could affect his decisions in some ways, but on the other hand I never felt that Mass Effect was a proper RPG. But I want to make my own character, and I want to be able to choose exactly what I say. Its like reading a book, you imagine the voices of characters and how they say things, like a proper RPG, I can roleplay my character. I disliked having to play Hawke. If you force the player into a specific character, then you at least have to make an interesting backstory for that character like in the Witcher.

- Bad writing. After DA:2 and ME3 I kind of expect bad writing now.

- Over stylized characters and animations. One of the things that made DA:O look great was that it was kind of down to earth. Most armors looked like proper armor, and characters looked realistic in a sense. DA:2 had mages (The geeks of that era/setting), do kung fu while wielding staffs, every character looked flashy in a sense, and reminded me of animé or WoW. But sadly they have confirmed that characters will have stylized looks in the next game. Let characters be distinct because of their personality and well written lines. Alistair didnt charm players of both genders because he had flashy moves, fancy hair or spiky shoulder pads, it was because of the writing and well delivered lines from the voice actor.

As with many others, after the last three Bioware single-player games my expectations for this game are pretty low, but since I still hope a little bit that things might improve, there are things that can disappoint me. They are, in no particular order:

- Lack of racial selection for the player character (already confirmed, so I'm already disappointed on this account)

- Lack of racial diversity among party members - when I'm playing in a fantasy setting and my party is predominantly human, something's definitely wrong. As I said elsewhere, be creative not just with character backstories, but with their race and appearance as well. If I could walk around with a huge stone golem and a Qunari in DAO, there's no reason I should be restricted to a bunch of humans, one dwarf and a couple elves in any sequel. Throw some spirits and/or demons, more Qunari, or even a new race into the mix - it is a fantasy setting after all.

- Dragon Age 2 styled elves. They looked normal in the concept art, but awful in the game itself. Return to the Origins style, please.

- Low poly doodad, no-collision NPCs make a return. This actually hurt the setting and the atmosphere. Please place proper NPCs in the world, even if they aren't interactive, like you did in DAO.

- Forced placeholder weapons and armor for player and party members. Placeholder weapons eliminate hand-to-hand combat, which could be used in quests, or as part of a minigame. Similarly, placeholder armor is unnecessary as well. If a character isn't wearing armor, then they should look the part and they should lack any armor bonuses as well.

- Lack of companion customization in terms of equipment. Companions should have the same equipment slots as the main character, unless they aren't humanoid (i.e Dog, or Shale). Their appearance should change appropriately as well.

- Equipment restrictions. I'm OK with attribute-based, or level-based restrictions, as long as the required values are not exaggerated, but class-based, race-based, or worse, character-based restrictions simply make no sense in most cases (with the exception of drastically different races, as in Dog).

- Any form of auto-dialogue. If you are going to automate it, then don't even give me the choice to trigger the dialogue and choose any options, just trigger a fully automated cutscene at your leisure. But if I'm supposed to engage in interactive conversation with other characters, then I would like to be the one directing that conversation by choosing all my lines (think adventure games, from which you borrowed the feature anyway and how conversations work there), not by choosing one sentence and watching five minutes of an automated conversation.

- Paraphrases. Sorry, but they are simply not better than the full line. Again, think adventure games, from which you borrowed the feature and how they don't use paraphrases, but full lines and people still enjoy those conversations and aren't bothered by reading and then hearing the line. At the very least the wheel should be reworked to function similarly to the one used in Deus Ex Human Revolution, which I find a perfect compromise between this paraphrase philosophy and displaying full lines.

- Romances that culminate in sex scenes, but those sex (cut)scenes are fully clothed or otherwise ridiculous. Many have said it, but I'll repeat it again - if you don't want to go all the way, that's fine, no one is asking for hardcore pornography, but if you're going to include sex, then at least portray it appropriately (for example, how it was done in Mass Effect 1). Alternately, don't include sex, or even romances, if you don't want to.

- Inconsistency of any kind. I like consistency in all aspects of a story and setting, be it places, characters or events, or even accents. This is why I didn't like the change in accents that happened in DA2 (Dalish that suddenly speak Welsh, for example), or drastic changes in character personalities and yes this includes sexual preferences. Now, this doesn't mean characters should be static and unchanging throughout the entire story, but their evolution (especially the drastic kind) should be handled during the story, not in between sequels. Orlaisians, however, should not suddenly start talking with a British, American, or any other accent, if they talked with a French one so far.

- Meaningless grand choices. Obviously, not every little side quest that offers a choice can result in a different consequence for each choice, but the main ones, the ones that are "advertised" by the story to be grand should be grand and have different outcomes.

- Streamlined gameplay elements. I'm going to use a rather insignificant example for this one - interaction with merchants. In DAO, you would talk to a merchant and get them to show you their goods. This kind of interaction could open up the possibility to haggle (cunning skill, for example, or persuade/intimidate), or some other interaction that I can't think of right now. In DA2, there was no merchant interaction, but instead there was merchant stand interaction that simply allows us to buy/sell items and that's it. This example is a minor thing overall, but its DA2 implementation did hurt the atmosphere and immersion, especially when combined with other streamlined features.

- Inability to save game at any time, along with limited save slots. The last two ME games had this problem (especially the third one with the last mission being completely devoid of save game opportunities) and even DA2 had some instances in which you couldn't save your game. Saving a game when you want with no limit to save slots is one of the basic features every game must have and I can't stress this enough. I realize console versions of games opted to depend exclusively on checkpoints and single-slot-autosaves due to who knows what reasons (hardware? easier to implement?), but this is a basic feature that even decades-old games support and should not be limited or removed, if the platform allows it (to be honest, it's disgraceful to remove, or limit it in this day and age). And as a general message to all developers, displaying a text that says "This game supports the autosave feature..." does not emphasize the existence of a basic feature, it emphasizes the lack of one.

If they don't add an online component, the game doesn't get published. It's as simple as that.

Also, since I'm assuming there won't be a readiness component like ME3, it's safe to assume that it's strictly optional content.

I try not think how I would make perfect DA:I. It's not very healthy and can only lead to bitter disappointment.

That said, I really don't like quests where I'm forced to use certain companions.
And I hope Morrigan and events from books/comics will not play some huge roles (with the latter being actually more important to me).

IDK all im asking fo is to not affect the SP like in ME  and no i havent played ME but from what i hear it wasnt that great if mp affected the SP just to get a better ending or whatever i dont want that for DAI   if they includ it as an option for those who want to play mp then thats fine i dont really care cuz im not gonna play it anyway but i dont want to be foreced to play it  just to get a good ending

I'm cautiously optimistic for DA:I because I think they will greatly improve on DA II, but there are many not yet shown mechanics/features that can make or break the game for me.

Disappointing would be:
- boring, naive and passive protagonist like Hawke.
- weapons/armor (except mage staves) locked to classes.
- combat being too fast and actiony with "anime-like" animations like DA II had.
- although the art direction seems to move more towards Origins, I need prove of that. DA II's was awful.
- companion armor mechanic is another point that could end badly.

Encouraging are (as less as we know):
- larger maps which are more open.
- customization seems to be a "key word", which in theory sounds awesome.
- templar/mage conflict doesn't seem to be the main plot.

I loved both DAO and DA2, so I'm expecting to like DAI as well.

I guess they could hypothetically take the stuff I didn't like about DAO (bland central plot, bland visual design and frequently tedious combat) and marry it to the stuff I didn't like about DA2 (repetitive areas, underwritten central antagonists) but I'm not really worried that will happen. The central plot of DAI could turn out as bland as the one from DAO, but it's way too early to say. Even if it does, I managed to love DAO anyway because of all the great stuff going on around the boring part.

Given that the amount of information we truly know abut DA3 could fit into a small zip-lock bag, a lot of everything that's floating around this forum is speculation.

But that being said, do you have high or low expectations for Inquisition? What would disappoint you about this game (i.e. if there was a lack of characters, short quest line, etc.). What would you absolutely NOT want to see in DA3? And what would disappoint you if some sort of something did not make it into the game?

Let's see:

What I wouldn't want to see

Multiplayer
Autodialogue
"Cinematic" experience replacing role-playing experience
Radical, inexplicible  personality changes in returning characters
Forced, arbitrary tragedy
Kobiyashi Maru, RGB-style endings
Stripperiffic outfits in general, but particularly as combat wear

What I would want to see

Hope
A happy, or at least happyish outcome, even if I have to work for it.
A protagonist who gets to keep body and soul intact, and isn't forced to commit atrocities to "save" Thedas
Nonviolent resolutions every once in a while.
Consistency between DAO, DA2, and DAI
An answer to why Hawke and the Warden disappeared

I just don't want to be railroaded into a Tragic Hero Ending where my protag has to sacrifice their life, their loved ones, or their morales to win the day. I know DA is not intended to be a trilogy, but I can't help but get ~epic finale~ vibes from the trailer, and what with ME3 still being a sore subject amongst the Bioware fans it makes me a wee bit apprehensive.

There are only two things I can think of:

1) If gay romances were removed.

2) If Orson Scott Card was involved in the future of Bioware in any way. I was very disappointed when I learned that they'd commissioned him to write a comic series for the setting, and if I thought my money was going to be funding him or anyone like him, that would be the end of Bioware for me.

Those are the only two things I can conceive of that would affect my enjoyment of the game in any significant way, and either one would cause me to stop buying Bioware games.

Orson Scott Card is one of the most talented Science Fiction writers of our time (the Enders series is amazing) it would be awesome if he were to have some input on the storylines. Honestly, he is a considerably better writer than DG.

Quite frankly, I would love it if some other authors were allowed to get their hands on the IP. I am generally disappointed in the writing to this point.

Well said i dont have to hope, i know despite possible flaws it will still be a great game to play.

Personally prefer a slightly open ending as thats part of roleplaying and leaving possibility for extension of story later on.

Orson Scott Card is - or was, at least - a very talented writer. Unfortunately, he's also a homophobe, and I refuse to give him any of my money. (Not going to see Ender's Game is going to hurt, since it's still one of my favourite books, but there it is.) The comic series Orson Scott Card wrote for Dragon Age is the only thing in the franchise so far that I haven't bought.
