it also has links to another guys thread. The other guy deals with fixing DLC content. I deal with in game scripting to fix issues that his thread wont fix, and things that BW won't fix for you.
99% of the time between the two threads people can fix their game, or work around the bug(s) and move on and play and be satisfied

the game has serious issues and i think i found out what was causing them. first of all, the issues i''m talking about are the slow running and lagging of the game on many types of PCs and notebooks. the solution is turning off your sound, at least for the sound effects. can anyone confirm this?
Since Microsoft took all hardware sound acceleration out of Windows with Vista and 7, ALL games must use the CPU to deal with sound. All sound cards are now are just "dummy" devices used as speaker outputs.
The only way to get HW accelerated sound (off the CPU) is to have OPEN AL installed and then the game must make use of open al
DAO does not use openal, and uses a worker thread to deal with sound, music and effects.

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (this is clearly wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce "6600 GT" 128MB or greater (and this one is more wrong)
(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO, same thing, almost) for medium or better textures)
INTEL'S GARBAGE (Graphics Chip) IS NOT SUPPORTED

every time i hit play a box says that something failed to detect a supported video card. How do i fix it?
If the message is accurate, you go out now and buy a replacement video card for your desktop PC and install it. Choose a minimum of a mainline gaming card ("n600" performance code in its name, like the HD 4670). If you happen to have a laptop, you probably cannot upgrade your video device, and will have to give up on Dragon Age, unless you purchase a proper games-capable replacement system.
If the error message has appeared in spite of really having a video card that actually meets the real requirements, you have one of three problems, in order of ease of repair: your video driver is bad, the Direct3D API files are bad, or the game's got some bad files in it. Start with a fresh video driver install, and work your way through until the card is recognized.

Does support for this game even exist

Chris,
whoever, it doesn't work, and EA are destroying bioware with this. How
many people are involved in supporting this product, and what do they
do all day? They certainly don't deal with customers.
According to your comment in another thread, a moron at EA did reply to you about your complaint, and did not recognize the crap antique video card you think you should be able to play the game with ("FX 5200" -- that happns to be a freaking joke of a video card!)

Not only is the 6200 too old, too slow, and too defective, the only thing that the 7300 GT offered in comparison was that it no longer had the worst of the 6200's several defects.DigitReaper wrote...
I just bought the game last night and I'm noticing for some reason my graphics are really suffering. For one I cannot see character portraits and the inventory screen doesn't show the character either. The graphics are set to low and lag and there are missing pixels.
Right now I'm running a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 graphics card, could that be the problem?
If so would this one ( www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp) be adequate to run the game?
OK, that one was answered.
You may safely ignore the NAME of this forum. It's not officially used for much of anything by Bioware itself.Vartap wrote...
This is the support forum, well support....my system keeps on crashing with this game and this game only. There are many complaints and what has happened so far? A patch that needed a fix to start. This is getting ridiculous, this is no way support by any means! i am very disappointed by Bioware / EA for the 'support' to this game. It frustrates me and makes me angry, JUST FIX this bloody problem!
There can be more than one cause, however one is most common, and that is trying to use the wrong graphics card. Really old cards do not handle the pixel shaders quite correctly. The Launcher's configuration finds most of them, but a few slip through.DocCaspian wrote...
Here's a new one, and hopefully someone here can help me with it, since EA likely won't from what I have read in the forums so far. I have installed the game (retail) and updated drivers. The game configuration detects no problems with my software or hardware. However, once I launch the game, the is no text at all (excluding background splash). No text on the buttons, no character descriptions, no dialog text, nothing. Can't even enter a name for the character that I can see. Already tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Does anyone know how to resolve this, or did I just happen to buy a lemon?

Need help, I have downloaded Wardens Keep and finish it. Just bought a strat guide and found out about the Ancient History side quest. I cannot seem to get back inside the keep. No action Icon comes up when I mouse over the door. Is this a fixable problem, anyone?
You cannot return inside after you've finished the main quest in Warden's Keep. Else, it is a bug I have, too.

I've tried doing that, I've made sure my disc drive is working properly and made sure the drivers are updated, and I just don't know what else to do. It seems like this isn't a common problem. Please advise if you have any advice
