It happened the same to me. I have medium spec computer (Athlon X2 4200+ with 4gb ram and ATI 4850) and with Windows 7 the game would run with low fps, even with the setting in low mode. But with xp 32 bits, the game runs very smooth with everything in high settings.

Whats funny is if you look at the Bioware support forum page for their online store (the only place you can post about DAO and hope to get a response) there is only ONE moderator to answer questions and delete repeat posts.



Then if you go to EA with a problem....You can just look at their track record with games not related to Soccer or Football and assume you will not get any kind of response worth a damn.



Its positively glorious that companies still allow EA to publish their stuff.



UO...EA got it and killed it faster than Sony killed SWG.



Battlefield 2142..EA had majority rights and control over it and in less than 6months there was a server error that deleted over HALF of all player accounts and it took them over 2months to fix it.



Warhammer speaks for itself along with Mythic turning to rubbish with EA handlers and their riding crops.



EA won't fix anything in a timely or suitable manner and its faster to give up and find something else to play for a few months.



Steam...I dislike it since the CS days and wont use it.



This is my first BioWare game since Baldur's gate when I was to young to care about strategy and got frustrated because I died to much xd.

for some reason, no character textures are showing up for me. When i go to create my first character, everything works but i cannot see the player model, its all black. Any help?

fixed that problem, but now the game crashes as soon as i go into the room where my character (noble humaan warrior) has to go deal with his dog

when I go to type something in the forums except this place it says I cannot have access to that request (something like that) so i'm not allowed to write my own questions or reply to anything. and yes I am logged in.
why is this??

Take a look at the list of components below (not filled in yet).  If your video drivers are all up to date, you may need to list your system components for us.

Several of the forums requirre a separate registration here, in your profile, for the game.  Also, when the server is acting overloaded, it sometimes issues an erronneous response to some of the editing buttons.

The chances are very good that you misunderstood the game's requirements, unless your video drivers are really ancient!  Better fill this all in now (and I will add some other people's questions who need to do the same!) 

Preliminary diagnostic information

PCs are not *anything* at all like game console systems.  There is almost nothing that is truly "standard" between various branded PCs, making the game developers' jobs very difficult, and resulting in warning labels attached to game boxes for those games that have serious requirements. 

In case you have misunderstood how to evaluate your PC compared to that game box label, we have to start from here.  Fill it all in.  

Basic Hardware Specification Chart (Empty so far)

Processor Manufacturer: AMD / Intel
Processor Name / Type: Athlon 64 / Pentium / C2D / dual core / quad, etc.
Processor Speed:  ?.? Ghz (or AMD Performance Number)
Operating System / Service Pack: WindowsXP with SP #?, Vista ? (Oh, no!)
System RAM: ? ? GBs (MBs, if less than 1024)
Video (GPU) Manufacturer: ATI / Nvidia (only those two are supported, PERIOD)
Video Card Model: (examples) Radeon HD 3650 / Geforce 8600 GT
Video Card Driver Version: Catalyst ?.? / Nforce ??.??
 . . . (use numbers, not the word "latest")
Video Card onboard RAM: ? ? ? MBs
Sound Card Manufacturer:
Sound Card Model:

The above is needed, for diagnostic purposes, if the video card is not a Geforce FX, or another similarly ancient and / or defective video device.

I answered someone about video card "artifacts" caused by overheating, which in turn is due to a bad cooling fan, or a lot of dust buildup in the system, particularly in the video card heat sink.

This game requires a video card, and you don't have one. The 9100, 9200, and 9300 are just chips, and not much good at game playing. You'll need a different laptop, one intended to play games on (more expensive that the average laptop because of the actual video card in it).

You probably cannot, until you upgrade either to a more recent, Maniline (n600) video card, or a newer PC entirely.

I have been playing supreme commander on this laptop. Warcraft3 and others since i got 1 year ago with vista and have not had aproblem playing games. it is a gaming laptop as was my 6 year old xp machine.this is the first game i have had any problems with. the game plays but i do ot have a mouse cursor show up. I installed red alert 3 and the same thing happend. i just installed win7 pro 64 bit and that is when my problems started. just did a totally fresh install last night and still no mouse cursor.

Nothing yopu wrote in reply has anything to do with fixing the problem, which has been described sufficiently already.  Laptops are NOT SUPPORTED  for games.  By anyone.  Period.  Video chips are inadequate.  Fact of life.

I'm not sure what my power supply is, but I do know that my CPU and GPU seem to be at normal temperatures and my computers fans are running just fine. I have just found that this problem happens on every game now, so I will have to take Tw34k's advice and buy a new graphics card.

Open your case and see what the sticker on the PSU says the wattage is, most retail cpus come with a 400w from what I've noticed.

You have to make sure your PSU is good enough to support your Vid Card, if it's not powerful enough, you'll have more issues than you started with.

I have two very annoying bugs in my game. The first is that my party won't auto attack. I have to click on the enemy for every action. If I don't my party just stands there doing nothing (and yes I've checked the tactics window). The second thing is that the "level up" button (the plus by the portrait) doesn't work. Nothing happens when I press it.
I think it can have something to do with the toolset, but I'm not sure. I've reinstalled both the game and the toolset but it's still the same.
Anyone who knows how to fix this?

First things first. DAO's official support people - Tier 1, "Carol" specifically in the Live Chat. Suck.



My problem is fairly simple, and probably not able to be remedied here, but I'm angry atm. The information about my character isn't uploading correctly to the website. I'm not sure if this is a known issue (I didn't see anything on it), and I can't upload pics from within the game anymore either. I had submitted an email asking for support several days ago - still no answer - so I used live chat. And I get "Carol". I'm not making up any of her replies.. FYI



1st answer: "Due to large flow of tickets your incident is not responded yet. We apologize for the inconvenience."

and then tells me to wait for a reply. I told her no - that's why I waited 20min in chat, because I was tired of waiting.



2nd Answer: "I will forward this to my senior support and he will email you back at his earliest convenience". Again, trying to get me off chat and to wait some more. I asked her to get a supervisor on the chat for me. Not an agent sitting next to them, not a "senior" agent - someone in charge.



3rd Answer: "I apologize for the inconvenience. They are saying that there is some temporary issue on our side. Our engineers are working to resolve it." And that one of course is the coup de grace of tech support answers - because what stupid customer could possible argue when an ENGINEER is involved now!?!



I argued this point with her, and said all I had been looking for was a bit of support, and all I got was excuses to get me off chat. The last thing I got in right before she disconnected me was "Can you at least answer me honestly about anything?"

When I accept the quest he says something like: "okay, let's meet there, I'll mark the location on your map". He never fulfills wither of those promises. He just stands there and loops so I can take the quest again and again without actually doing it.

This is starting to ****** me off now so help would be greatly appreciated.

seeing all of these problem, i guess my problem isn't that big of an issue. at least i can start a game and it doesn't crash on me. has anyone encountered a problem where they are stuck in dialog with NPC and can't get out. I have to alt-F4 to get out of game when i try to speak with Alister (however you spell his name).

I cleaned my %temp% folder out closed all processes other than critical ones and installed new video drivers. fixed problem right up.

I have got everything working...with the new C++ download and turning off my mouse trails and shadow my mouse now shows up and i can play. I tech from HP suggested the mouse trails and shadows fix.
