I've had AVG v.9 since the game was installed and it's always been running, so don't know if that should be the problem and really don't want to turn off my AV just to play the game!
Would this be a huge security risk? Would the windows firewall be enough for protecting just to play?

The game crashed yesterday at 24 and 56 minutes past the hour for the whole day.

Also do you have to set the CPU every time you load the game or does the system remember once you have set it the 1st time?

When anything seems very clock-oriented, I always want to look at background processes, because it will be one of those doing worse than merely stealing focus.  Various AV programs are the worst of all about it, but so are eMail and IM programs.   Figure out which background process recently updated, and you'll have identified your culprit.

AVG 9 has a bug where it will close apps to desktop every 30min or so.
This seems to happen if you update from 8.5. The fix (for me &
others) is to remove AVG 9 then do a clean install.

PS: I used the free full install download (70somthing megs) not the web install, dont have the link sorry.

PPS:
The game is not crashing just collapses to desktop(so will trying to
play movies or any other game), this is a AVG nag telling you to update
from 8.5 but without any message because you already have update.

Thanks Ajax65 and Gorath for your help, this did seem to resolve the issues of the game mimimizing to desktop and the encountering an error.

I did the following and then played for about 5 hours straight with no issue.

• Reinstalled AVG v.9 as per the link from Ajax65

• Uninstalled snoopprivacy shield as this was showing in the error reports after the crashes and I couldn't figure how to just turn it off.
• Closed Peer Guardian while playing.
• Peer Guardian and snoop shield seemed to be blocking Electronic Arts from connecting to the computer no matter how often I added the IP addresses to the allowed list, they kept changing.
• This also resolved any issues logging in to the account at the very start of the game.
• Changed the CPU affinity to just '1' when playing as described above and thanks to whoever it was for THAT post.

I'm going to test this again now to see if this will work again today and let you know if this seems to work consistantly.

In one of the 1st Baldurs Gate unoffical walkthroughs there was some advice on playing RPG's:

There are 3 important times to save the game and only 3:

• Before a fight.
• After a fight
  
• Anytime inbetween.

Thanks to everyone unofficially working for EA and Bioware to provide these fixes for us in a way we can understand!!
Perhaps the Admins could tidy up this thread and consolidate the Q+A's from everyone??

I've been having trouble with my computer the past few days. I may or may not have corrected the problem. If I wind up having to wipe out the hard drive will I have trouble reinstalling the game or will the game just go ahead and match my account with my registration? What if I went ahead and got a new computer? Will I have trouble installing it on my new computer if I uninstall it on this one first? Assuming this one doesn't go totally bonkers.



I was only able to run the computer in safe mode this morning up until the things I have done to it now. I'm still not positive there was not a hardware problem since I tried so many things to finally get it back up. If it turns out to be a hardware problem I'm not investing much in it, instead I'll buy another computer.



So I'm just wondering if the DRM is going to bite me in the butt.

After updating game version, the game began crashing at the any video sequence - using GF8800.
I set antialiasing to off and it seem to run for me now.
So (only guessing) if you having trouble with GF8800 and crashes, you could try messin with antialiasing setting.

Now .. if combat actually worked, if it werent so dull, if there were any real choices in npc, if it was anywhere near the usual Bioware quality - I might play this game twice.

mine keeps telling me I must log in to account for my downloaded content. I cannot even load my game or start a new one and I am logged into my only account. Has anyone had this issue my just started this morning.

I preordered the game, and installed it right when it came out. It work completely fine for a long time. Then my computer crashed for a completely seperate reason. I wiped the harddrive, and redownloaded and installed the game. Then whenever i try to boot up the game ai get an error that says there was a misconfiguration and that i should reinstall the game. I have tried that in every possible form.

Probably not, but have you used the in-forum search yet?  I have seen a relatively large number of Geforce 8600 owners, compared to their total numbers, complaining about problems with the nVIDIA drivers; maybe some of those other threads had good resolutions?   (Edited here.  I never caught the potential confusion between a good conclusion and a screen sharpness setting.  I meant the former, of course!)

Here is the problem:

After
creating the character the game seems to start.  I can hear sounds, and
see the gold mouse arrow, but the rest of the screen is completely
dark.  I'm running version 1.01b.

In searching the posts and FAQ's I didn't see anything addressing this.  If it was already addressed please let me know.

Apprently every background choice will work except human noble.

The
other strange thing which may or may not be related is that in every
cut scene the voice over seems to be turned off.  I can hear music and
everything else, but none of the words.  When in combat my character
will audibly say the little quips that characters normally do.

I
already have the xbox version, but really wanted to experience the play
on the PC.  I would rather not have to return the game.

Is there
anyone that can please help?  If this is somehow in the wrong area,
pleas be kind enough to direct me to the correct place to post my
problems.

Don't forget, if you did read the very top sticky, that what you have in here is other game players, and very few Bioware folks, because the real "support", such as it is, comes from EA.

When I try to install I get an error running the autorun. "Error: the internal settings seems to be corrupt" is what im getting. When I run the set up file it lets me get all the way to the point I choose express or custom install then what ever I pick, it decides to go non responsive. I have also already made an image on my c drive with same results. any help?

Just confirming that the stuff I did in the earlier post (currently on top of pg.28) worked.

Game didn't minimize, ran smoothly with no probs. Played another 4-5 hours straight and walked the dog with the game on pause just to really test.

When i came back and unpaused it still ran as it's supposed to, so thanks again to those who gave the good advice.



I haven't dared to try the DLC stuff yet, although the dragon armor is available and in the backpack I just ain't high enough to try it on.

I'm still having problems. Even though i tried some of the fixes here explained on the forum.
I get random crashes to the desktop every now and then, and when I start the game again after a crash, it crashes more frequently.
Processor speed is 100% when i run this game, 50 when i set the affinity to CPU 1.

Specs of my system:
Intel Core2Duo E6750 @ 2.80 Ghz
4GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8800GT
Creative X-Fi Extreme Audio
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit

"all your drivers are up to date" for what type of computer/video card?

I downloaded the patch 1.02 which was suppose to fix the problem I was having with Leliana.  I got her "fondness" up to 100 before i started her personal quest, and even after the patch I still can not start that quest.  All she says is "I'm here for you" and then it's stories or talking about us.  Is my game not patched correctly (I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice now, the first time was a manual uninstall) or is it something else that I have done incorrectly in the game that is blocking me from doing her personal quest?

I can't fix this problem. Whenever I click play to try to start the game I get this! "daorigins.exe - System Error" and a red X and it says "The program can't start because PhysXLoader.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Well I tried again and again and nothing fixed it. What do I do now? Ask EA for my money back and ship the game back to where I bought it?

I'm having the same problem as some others have posted about (i know, everybody says that). I fire up the launcher, press play, then get a black screen, get shunted to my desktop and it says blah blah blah game no worky contact microsoft... So i try to launch it again, sometimes it works second try. sometimes it fails to launch up to 35 times in a row before i lose patience, turn off the comp and go read a book. When the game is running it's basically bulletproof, doesn't crash, lag, get graphically creative or anything like that. Yesterday i had my first in game crash. I was leaving the chantry in loathering and the game died. Today when i tried to fire up the game it says that there is a core server error and I must reinstall.

I've got:

dual core 2.5 gig processor (E5200)

4 gigs of ram

ATI Radeon HD 4600 series video card (512mb)

Windows xp home edition (SP3)

the latest drivers for everything.



anybody have any suggestions (other than buy a new video card)?

Uh, anyone else having this problem.....when I talk to Oghen in camp, the camp is going blank with just my PC and him on the screen? Not sure what is up with this. I took a screen shot of this. Also, Lelianna won't equip her old lover's longbow that you get for killing her? Hmmmmm.

I left the Anvil of the void quest without finishing it so I could go back to the camp and heal. When I return to the Anvil of the void a wall has appeared that bars my entry. Tell me there's a way around this, because if there isn't I'm screwed. All my subsequent auto saves have saved over the ones I'd need to revert back to.
