Anyone know how to fix this?
Don't
think It's the game as it works on my brothers computer, but there i
can not play it as smoothly as on my, and i had the same problem
earlier in Oblivion a few weeks back.
I think It's a glitch in my computer but i don't know what it could be
There shouldn't be any problems with my specs either:

Windows Vista - I lclick "play" on launcher and nothing happens.
I'm very upset because it was working before, it's the weekend and I was looking forward to some play time. I just stopped by the site real quick before dicing in when I saw the "game patches" link and now I am sitting here frustrated as can be. (Thanks for letting me vent)

The DAO keeps crashing randomly for two different reasons:
-fmodex.dll, but this looks like to be corrected with disableing sounds, but then playing the game isn't anything anymore and sounds enabled the game can crash at any time (during dialog, cutscene, running around) and extremely often after any origin story and getting to Ostaga
-nvd3dum.dll, this is Nvidias problem and I'm running newest beta drivers because they have added better multi-gpu support for DAO. But to be specific the game crashes by this file while after taking sceenshot.
My computers specs are:
-Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
-Asus P5K motherboard
-Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz (N.O.S. enabled from motherboard to ovarclock processor by max. 30% during heavy load)
-4Gb Kingston HyperX 1066Mhz RAM
-2x 500Gb and 1Tb harddisks
-RealTek HD-audio integrated sound chip
-Dragon Age: Origins Collector's Edition (Retail)

Read otherwhere on the forums about it being due to some Visual Basics +++ thing, and a download-link was suggested but I didn't understand it.

HELP! After 4 years of waiting to play DAO-Cannot install.
After inserting the Collector's Edition disc- ERROR reads:
error switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported.
Line 1, Column 40 in XML setting.
Running:
Vista 64 bit Quad core
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
4.00 GB Ram
Can anyone please help resolve this problem?
64 bit can be modyfied so that practically any games
can run on 64 bit.

Then pick the download wich corresponds with your processor (if you don't know which one try them out in order - if you picked the wrong one it will disable itself saying you got the wrong processor). Install and then run the game again.
It works! And I'm using Vista.

I cant get the game to work with Vista at all. Have spent over 3 hours total in queue and no solutions work.
I was able to install and run the game on vista business but after installing the patch it wont run anymore. I get to the game launcher, and press play but nothing happens. Been trying everything. Ran as admin, decreased my graphic settings, ran updates on my drivers, etc. Nothing seems to work. Anyone else have this issue or know how to solve besides unintalling the entire game?
