That isn't pirating, as long as you both aren't trying to play the game at the same time.

However your Dad would need to log in using your bioware login to access any DLC. Assuming of course that you've already activated it.

Hey guys, I just bought the Ultimate Edition and it doesn't look very nice on the pc I'm currently using, so I'm planning to reinstall it on a future PC. Is there an install limit on the Ultimate Edition? Also, I already registered the DLC code on this computer. Can I access the DLC using the same account on my future account?

So are the servers down again? I just got DOA Ultimate through stem today, and all of my DLC is unauthorized. I've gone through the troubleshooting thread about it with no help. Restarted the computer, made sure the auto updater is running, ect.

Any suggestions?

Just went to play and the game tells me that there is a problem and I need to reinstall, but since this is a digital copy, reinstallation means having to re-download. Is there no way to download a local install copy so if this happens again, at least I wouldn't need to re-download?

The Opening Message starting this thread was never edited to allow for the alteration of the Help Page from "help.dragonage.com" being DAO's URL, so be aware the links now point to DA2 instead.

Chris Priestly wrote...

Official game support is supplied by Electronic Arts here

To get help with technical issues for the PC please visit Official Support and check their existing questions & answers or request help.

This forum is for fans of Dragon Age: Origins to assist each other with technical questions. We have an excellent and helpful community, but remember {that} Official game support is here.

The current EA Page for DAO itsrlf is support.ea.com/app/answers/list/p/275%2C908/search/1

When it comes to these forums, the design here is a "Self-Help" Tech Discussion forum between game owners, and the BEST way to handle the discussions is with a few ground rules, including insisting on enough basic information to do a great deal more with than merely floating a few WAGs.  One of the ground rules is to ask questions in your own personal (brand new) message, and that doesn't include here in Chris' old thread.

To that end, finally, we have pinned messages on top of the DAO PC Tech forum (called "stickies"), the DA2 PC Tech forum, the ME-1 PC Tech forum, and the ME-2 PC Tech forum decribing how to report problems.  Please read those guides and follow them.

Thank you.

Did you try opeining it or "Running it as Administrator?" I did, and it worked wonders and no problems afterwards.

The image quality is closely related to the video graphics card's quality, and the video drivers matched to it.  The drivers do tend to favor newer games and newer cards, so older drivers may be a better choice.

Unlike ME-1, you can install on a next PC without having to worry about a limit.

AFAIK, all DLC is connected in the EA Servers with your account, not your PC or a particular install of the game (I avoid any and all software with apron strings tightly attached, and therefore, whether I had a true version of Broadband instead of the medium bandwidth I do have, or not, I would still avoid these Bioware DLCs and Expansions).

Disabling Frame buffer effects and setting cpu affinity to single core has helped with load times.

It really seems to me that the only valid topical material for this thread is related to EA's support, exactly as per Chris' opening comments, although *HOW* we report problems in this forum would also be fully topical. I don't think anyone has mentioned slow load times in here for days now, so I don't know why that was brought up again.

All things considered, this thread probably could have been locked a year ago.

I wonder the same about my toshiba laptop. Will it run DAO decently? These are my Tosh specs:

OS: --------> Windows Professional 64-bit
CPU: ------> Intel Core i3-330M Processor @ 2.13 GHZ, 3MB L3 Cache
Graphic:--> NVIDIA GeForce 310M with 512MB GDDR3 plus 1755MB dynamic
allocated shared graphic memory using NVIDIA Turbo Cahce (Total
available graphic memory 2267MB)
RAM: 4GB DDR3 @ 1066MHz
HDD: 500GB hard drive

I was also able to run Mass Effect 2 demo decently on this laptop. Do
you think I should get the PC version? I already own the XBOX 360
version. Any input or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I cannot recall there having been any ME2 Demo, but I can guarantee that ME-2 itself, the actual game, certainly couldn't run correctly on such a terrible graphics card. DA2, it its own way, is better optimized for the low end wanna be junk like 210s and 310s than DAO is.

That game does have a Demo that probably would run in spite of the very low quality of the video device. See the current discussion with a new arrival here asking about low frame rates with a Geforce 8400. The 310 and the 8400 are both designed for the same use, business charts, graphs, presentations, and spreadsheets. The 8400 appears to perform better than a 210 / 310.  Right now, the way I see it, there are three "non-card" options that are better, as well.

The best from AMD's Chipset video chips, and from Intel's Sandy Bridge, and from the nVIDIA Chipset video chips, are all better performers than the Geforce 210 / 310 actual cards are. AMD's Bulldozer-based Fusion APUs will include mainline quality graphics inside the multi-core processor package finally (the 32 nm Fabs are apparently finally coming online, about six months late).  Those will make all previous "integrated" graphics seem primitive, indeed.

Gorth Alpha - Is there any laptop which will run these games, DA-O, DA-2, ME and ME-2 without having frame rate problems as you so mentioned? For instance, I have the following laptop ready to be purchased from Toshiba with these specs:

  • Processor - Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM processor 2.0GHz  (2.90 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology), 6MB Cache
  • OS - Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64-bit
  • Memory - 8GB DDR3 1333MHz SDRAM (4096MBx2)
  • HDD - 500GB HDD (7200rpm, Serial-ATA)
  • Graphics - NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M with NVIDIA® Optimus™
  • Technology with 1GB GDDR3 memory
  • Optical Drive - Blu-ray Disc™ ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer drive
  • Wireless LAN & Bluetooth®
  • Wi-Fi® Wireless networking (802.11b/g/n) with Bluetooth® v3.0 + Enhanced Data Rate (EDR)

Will the above laptop be able to handle the games without problems? Or do I have to buy a $2000+ gaming desktop instead? I will appreciate your input or anyone else's input. Thanks.

The 540M is quite new, and I haven't seen even one review for any of them. Since the name changes for the GT200s, the "40" number has mostly represented about the same thing that a "650" from AMD still means. It is intended to suggest that this is a Medium performance, Mainline Gaming card.

Toshiba has a better reputation for good cooling of their laptops than most, which is really helpful. Without reviews, though, I have to hesitate to give a thumbs up signal just yet. Have you Googled for reviews yourself?

Hmm, the above Toshiba laptop is Satellite A660-BT3N25X; however, the above specs are a custom-build which will be impossible to find a review containing exactly these specs. It actually take toshibadirect.com 1-2 weeks to get this build. I tried to find something about this particular model but I cannot find it. I think it is priced right, for it costs $1420 with tax and shipping included in this price. Thanks for your help, Gorath Alpha.

Hi,

For the past month and a half, I have been trying to install Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition on my PC.

Each time, the Installation process begins correctly, until it gets to this following line

Extract: packages\\core\\data\\anims.erf

It
freezes the installation at 22.1%, and stays there until I shut my
computer down an hour later from frustration that the install bar does
not change AT ALL.

I love Bioware, and I've never played a bad game, but the fact that I can't install one single game on my laptop is ridiculous.

It
even says when I begin installing it that I have 370 GBs available for
use. And Dragon Age Origins takes 24.1, I see a problem here.

So please, if anyone has figured out how to fix this, let me know. I beg you.

My PC Specs are.....

Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU     T6600  @ 2.20GHz
2186 MHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330
Driver Version: 6.10.6272.0
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

The disc is in good condition, no scratchs or marks.

Might be worth checking for a faulty DVD drive.

I know it sounds daft but i had an HP laptop some years ago that i used to play World of Warcraft on.
Everytime i tried to install the game it would always hang at around 30.3% or so before failing.
For the life of me i couldn't figure it out as the disc worked perfectly in my desktop PC.
One day i tried another disc for something else and that failed to even read even though i had only got it that day.
Again, i tried it in my desktop and it work perfectly.
In the end i RMA'd my laptop and within a day of it being received the supplier told me that the drive was at fault.
Anyway, once it was returned and i tried the same discs both of them worked without a problem.

Could be worth a try for you.
