I seem to be stirring sh*t up sometimes when using that term on this forum. So now I'm asking my fellow BSN members; what does that word mean to you?

What would be the criterias of a bad, average, good and great player?

I just want to see how you people think about it. So please share! :alien:

Are you limiting this to bsn members or the whole gaming community? Most bsner's have a very skewed version of what these are. They have played so long and become so good they have lost the ability to relate to poorer players on lower levels and can't understand how some players can be so poor.

Can competently, in a team, complete silver without consumables and me having to babysit him

A group of average players should be able to finish silver with minimal trouble.

Both.

Because I see it from a BSN members point of view and I would like to know how other people see it.

Average: finish bronze solo with no consumables used.

edit: playing any character but the Juggernaut. Even TGI with lolpacks.

Simple answer

Solo bronze only - Below average
Silver - Average
Gold - Good
Platinum - Very good

Of course nothing is ever simple.

Average is merely the average skill level across all players, and where most of the players end up being around.

Some BSNers subscribe to the thought of "anybody worse than me is bad" while also being above the average skill, so you end up seeing complaints about pugs "being bad" because they didn't know some random thing.

Plenty of stuff is common knowledge around here, but the game never actually tells you that or even in some cases there things you'd never be able to figure it out in game without using the tools that people like me and Peddroelmz use.

You're implying a range of skills above (from bad to great with average just above bad)
I think it's more constructive to talk about skill in terms of competence. I.e. what's a competent player:

Back on topic the 'average' skill of people actually posting on this board seems quite high - I'd not include myself here - I'm definitely below average in this context. I have fun and kill things with friend and pugs - that's what matters to me.

Good - Complete and be a helping part of a platinum game no matter the setup or class or weapon. Be aware of how to play objectives and know when to go for them and when to kite. Have a vast knowledge of game mechanics regarding weapons, powers, consumables, enemies, etc.

Doing all that and missiling spawns or playing for score drops you to an average player instantly :P

A great player can do all of that without teammates.

Bad: players that don't help, won't revive when you fall next to them, players that obviously don't know a second thing about the kit they are using..
Average: players whose comfort ends with gold and can't do it without a 4 man squad
Good: plat players that can carry 3 average pugs to glory
Awesome: plat soloers, althoug I belive it requires more patience than awesomeness, and guys that can make any kit look beasty on plat

Good - can solo platinum, can carry a platinum game with 3 useless pugs. Can play equally well with a vast range of characters. Regularly uses many different characters. Plays exclusively on platinum.

Average (me) - can't solo platinum. Can do okay on platinum, but needs a team of 3 average/decent players. Can't carry a platinum game where the rest of the team are useless. Good with a few characters, but can't perform equally well with every character,

Bad - doesn't use medi gels, bleeds out frequently. Doesn't stay in hacks/uploads/escorts. Refuses to do devices. Refuses to go for objects. Doesn't revive. Doesn't use mods on his/her weapons. Doesn't use a gear bonus.

I'm confused about where I fall because I can't solo platinum but I can clutch waves in platinum if needed.

What are we attempting to generalise?

Skill?

Net player ability?

If it is skill we are estimating an average of, I would say an average skilled player can...

-Consistently score a decent amount in games, using a variety of kits and weapons; as this is a clear indication that you can at the very least kill efficiently which is a major part of the game

-Knows and can utilise basic level mechanics; soft cover, gearing, speccing and equipping appropriately

-Is willing to use consumables; rocketting banshees grabbing team mates, med-gel at the last second before bleed out, etc.

-Can consistently carry their team if need be in a mission, by "clutching" waves

-Understand the notion of team work and co-operation; knows not to spam screen shake near snipers, knows to complete objectives, revive team mates, etc.

If we are attempting to generalise the "average" mass effect 3 player, there would be a huge number of people who would fall under the category of "below average skill level".

If you fail to meet the criteria for an average skill level player, I would deem you "bad".

If you exceed and surpass the level of ability required to be deemed of "average skill" I would deem you a decent player.

Got to disagree with you on this smooth, I think you're setting the bar too high. We know that the great majority of games played are on bronze or silver, so I think it's fair to say the average player is probably just decent in a full silver team.
Good players would be anyone above that level.

Average? Can always extract bronze, silver on a good day with a team. Get over yourselves BSN, that's a generous average for this game.

Also FYI I can only do bronze with no consumables with a bit of luck maybe every 1 out of 10 tries. I'm pretty sure I'm well above average at this point.

If you can successfully clutch/solo entire platinum waves (consistently and regularly) when playing with really bad teammates (unmodded weapons, no equipment, no gear bonus, no consumables), then of course you're good.

If that order is true (I'm not saying it is) then PC is average, by the definition of average.

I only put PC as good because of the awesome controls and PS3 as average because you guys spend more time rebooting then playing the game.
