Hi guys, I'm having a bit of trouble finding something I assumed exists.

Basically my predicament is this; I own Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition. It works great, I love it. However, after looking at screens and the mechanics of NWN2, I really would rather play that. The graphics in NWN 1 did not age well...

Having played many other Bioware games, and knowing how the modules work, I thought "Well great! :o I can go out and buy NWN 2 and just play the campaign of NWN 1 through a module on the NWN 2 engine." I didn't really have any basis for this assumption other than seeing similar user-projects, like Baldur's Gate TUTU and other such things. I've also seen Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate modules for NWN 2, which excited me greatly and made me think other classic campaigns were re-made on NWN 2 as well.

So, help me out here. Does it exist or not? Can I play the NWN 1 campaign on NWN 2? Because I'm a purist, traditionalist and completionist, so I refuse to let myself play the sequal of anything before the original work. But I don't want to have to deal with a more cumbersome engine if I don't have to, I'm just interested in the story. I've looked up and down the internet for a module that fits what I'm looking for, but I guess it either doesn't exist or I'm doing something wrong because I cannot find it for the life of me.

Thanks in advance!

It does not exist as far as I know, there is a toolset plugin that converts things, but it would require development. And not sure if these games are old enough to allow such to even be shared/published without running afoul of copyright.

I would take a look at the various upgrades to NWN1, textures, peachykeens shaders, replacements models, project Q, probably need to ask in their forums, but the NWN1 game has upgrades which make it a lot easier on the eyes ( asking in that forum is a good idea to get this info )

NWN2 is not a sequel to NWN1 at all. It's the same setting, but aside from a few oblique references to "the war with Luskan and the plague" the events of 1 are pretty much irrelevant. The PC from 1 - known then as "the Hero of Neverwinter" - isn't even mentioned. Only one enemy from 1 gets a cameo (and unless you played 1, you wouldn't know there was anything special about him). The main reference back to the NWN1 series is an NPC from HOTU who is a significant NPC in 2 (but retired from adventuring).

All of which is good for you, because I've never heard of what you're looking for actually existing.

There was only one attempt that I know of, which recreates the NWN1 OC prelude in the Academy, and it ends after that.  The author warns that it's not precisely faithful to the original.

Well poop. I was really hoping this would be an easy thing to do... Oh well. In that case I have one more question: Should I skip NWN 1 and just go straight to 2? Is there anything worth playing in the first one aside from the story that isn't already in NWN 2?

As I_Raps says, it's not a sequel in story. There's no reason you couldn't have both installed and enjoy them for different reasons. I quite enjoyed the NWN1 module Kingmaker, which comes with the Diamond Edition. Witch's Wake was also a good experience for me.

I prefer NWN2 for many reasons, not the least of which is the fully-controllable party of 4-6 depending on campaign/module, and also the interface (preserve me from radial menus), so I haven't played much more of NWN1 (I didn't get very far in its OC), but I still have it installed, and I've downloaded modules for it.

So really, you could go either way.

Thanks for the info and opinions, I appreciate it. I suppose I will start NWN 2 for now, I'm really excited to play it. I'll just go back to NWN 1 later, I guess.
