Is there any way to make the game pause at the start of combat? I found a mod that pauses every round, but I'd like something that would just pause when hostiles are met? (like in BG/NWN)
Pause at the start of combat?

i think you may be trying to induce turn-based but only on the first round
if that one you found has scripts, it might be possible to limit its effects to the first round
post a link to the mod you found and maybe someone can tell you if it is possible

It's this one http://nwvault.ign.c...ic.detail&id=27 but the link doesn't work for me today...
It effectively makes turn based combat, but my point is to have the game pause automatically when someone attacks you (or just turns hostile and you see it), this would help to avoid the nasty surprize of looking away from the screen for a moment and finding your characters dead

The whole purpose of NWN2 is to keep your attentionBorsook wrote...

Well, this "design" decision renders the game unplayable for me. Before I press the spacebar a part of combat has already happened, so archers are useless, everything happens at close quaters. I could use party AI I guess, but I want to play the game, don't it to play itself...
I really do get it. Baldur's Gate, Torment, Icewind Dale, Dragon Age have pause at the start of combat. NWN did not have it but there you didn't control a party but a single character, so it made sense, but in NWN2 it's a party again so no autopause? Such a pity...

Hi Borsook,
There is a way to do this (I also wrote the link you point to), but I have not released it as a separate download due to time.
However, example code will become available when I release my mod .... sorry, no time promises. Unless, of course, somebody else releases something in the meantime. Alternatively, as Morbane says, you may be able to work out what to do from the code I have already released.
As a head's up, here is the toggle button in my campaigns Main Menu: http://worldofalthea...-mechanics.html Quote from blog: "Secondly, a new combat Auto-Pause option has been added to allow a party of PCs to be automatically paused (and placed into turn-based combat) if attacked and the option is on." (Check out the first image.)
Cheers,
Lance.

maybe you could use the mod to autopause - then turn it off for a few rounds - restart, repeat......?
