i dunno, it could just be me.

did i miss a memo? or can anyone else get into the ign nwnvault? i use firefox and it keeps telling me it has problems loading the the page saying it cant find the server


edit: the old vault is still currently down, but its entire archive is saved and being put onto the new vault neverwintervault.net/ anyone who is worried about losing there content can know its being restored there

The ark is built and full of animals.

Every module listed in Never Launcher is safe on a public server ( and the data is such that it can be accessed though not implemented yet by me ).

Rolo has been maintaining a separate backup of the entire vault on his hard drive, with the files and the raw html of every page, and was migrating these to the vault 2.0.

If the vault has sunken, we need to finish landing the ark. If not, and i hope not, we need to redouble our efforts to get vault 2.0 completely ready for this to happen.

wow i hadnt expected that sort of response... okay so IGN just shuts down servers as they feel like it? thats really terrible news if true

i could gain access to bits of it through internet explorer, but it appeared as if nothing was updated. looks like alot of people called it right to make another vault.

I hope its only a hoax/ or some sort of server issue, but im all for a real community vault now

OK did the logical thing and went onto the witcher vault in order to use the links there to test the rest of the ign vault sites. Apart from nwn there are 2 other vaults that are down - Vanguard and Warhammer. Of the rest of them there were a couple that have become general ign sites but apart from that all are working. The thing that struck me was that none of them appears to have been updated since 2012 and most not since 2011. To my mind that would make all of them more elligible for closing than nwn but I suppose it is the sheer amount of material that has been produced for nwn and nwn2 that actually made it more attractive for closure (if as I suspect it has).

While I was at it I thought I would pay a visit to the nexus to see if anyone on there had noticed. Instead I noticed something myself. I logged in on the front page and then went to the forums. There I discovered I was supposed to log in again if I wanted to post!!!! You have got to be kidding me.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Atari declaring bankruptcy and selling their assets individually, including their rights to the D&D license, which NWN makes use of. The auction of Atari's assets goes forward in July to any buyer who can afford said licenses that the publisher currently has individual franchise rights to.

It's not just games, either -- intellectual property, like the rights to the famous logo, is also up for grabs. The auction is
expected to take place from 16 to 19 July.

I'd like to think it's just a DNS issue and that NWVault will be back up eventually.

The good news is that the sky is not falling!
But if it is we have a bomb shelter. As Pain mentioned above, we have all the project files and metadata archived (as of last Sunday). And we have hosting for the next two years paid for.

The bad news is most of that is still in archive form and inaccessible. We are working on that.

The odd thing is, if you go to the vault hub (which is the hub for all the IGN Vault network) the ads are all old (mostly Warcraft), but *all* the "Network Headlines" are NwN headlines from the nwvault :-P

Am I the *only* admin doing any updates at all at all? :-P

Every once in a while, I like to go back to http://nwvault.ign.com/ because I like to see if anyone has created any new hak content and modules e.t.c that I can download for NWN 1.
I have Yahoo as my home page and have the "n.w. vault ign site" bookmarked on the Yahoo home page. (along with numerous other sites too)

Is there anyone out there who still creates new content for NWN 1 these days?
As I said, I'm always interested in going back there once in a while to take a look around.

Like you guys above, I'm also having a problem trying to load up http://nwvault.ign.com/ with it showing me a blank page telling me that it cannot connect to the server. :(
This is very highly annoying indeed!:(

At least it brings me some piece of mind to know that I'm not the only person with the same problem
either.

I'm afraid I don't really have anything new to add that you guys don't already know.
I don't really know any of the technical stuff that you guys do. Allow me to put on my dunces hat
here.

If anyone here finds that site goes back up for them, please could they post here to let others know?
I just hope this problem will be rectified as soon as possible! *sigh!*

Just one other thing.
I'm curious to know something about http://neverwintervault.org/
I only just discovered it this evening while trying to search for a working link to the the "n.w. vault ign site." It looks quite nice whoever built it. It also seems quite a new site too.
Has it been up there for long?

What kinds of files can I find on there?
Will any NWN 1 haks and any other such content be uploaded there in future?
The thing for me personally is, before this problem came about with the "n.w. vault ign site" this evening, every once in a while I would still have a problem trying to load up that site, but I guess it's probably because other people were trying to use it for whatever reason, and I'd wait a number of hours, then try it again later when it has been freed up.

This new site at http://neverwintervault.org/ (I assume it's new, but please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) is easily accessible to me right now. So if anyone happens to make anything new for NWN 1, it would be nice to know that it has been uploaded there so I can take a look.
It's just a bit of a shame about the "n.w. vault ign site" right now.
I really hope it will come back up for us sometime soon!
I know there is stuff loaded on there for NWN 2 also.
I don't have this version on my PC at the moment.
But I can only just about imagine how painful it must be trying to access this stuff. :-/ *deep sigh!*

@MissJaded yes people do still make new stuff for both nwn and nwn2. Just take a look in the modules section for threads discussing new modules and also take a look at the monthly custom content challenge thread.
I personnally am working on a couple of things that are both updates to things I've previously released.


The new vault is a collaborative effort by a number of people from these boards but Rolo is the guy in charge who will gladly explain all about it (he says with a wicked grin ).

The sad thing is if the Vault is gone for good then there are ton of modules that are gone with it. Between the nexus and the new NeverwinterVault I count about 30 total NWN modules and three of those are mine lol.

My summer playing list was going to be the Aeilund saga, the Prophet series and maybe the updated ADWR but now I have no way to download those. I only have parts of each series. I'm going to be really sad if I won't get to play them

I can send you all three, FR, and Rolo and his minions backed-up the entire vault, so the content is not lost, simply archived, until it can make its way to the new Vault.

I do urge everyone who still has an interest in Vault content to register on the new Vault.
We will open up access to the archives as quickly as possibly.
Until then, if you have content no longer accessible, now's a perfect chance to refresh it and put it up again.

Note: I don't really have minions. But some talented and enthusiastic people are helping me preserve the Vault. I have a gratitude thread lower down in this forum. I mean it. Thank you guys (and gals ;-).

Ah hells...

As someone who hardly ever stuck anything up, but has visted the Vault every day (more or less) for as long as its been going this is most saddening. Saw the 'server not found' pop up last night and thought, hmm must be having some issues... then tried it again today... no change, hope its not what we all think it is.

Damn it. Ive got none of my old NWN1 stuff backed up (got the old max files but cant access any of them anymore).

Heh, so Ataris gone bankrupt? never even knew... I guess patching NWN2 and 1 are gonna become a real problem if I ever have to reinstall, ahck even the model exporter plugins think il go and make a few copies of em right now and keep em in a safe place.

Im real glad we have dedicated people like Rolo who've managed to get backups of (most?) of it. Personally never thought it could all just go away, although oddly the thought "wonder if they'll ever shut this place down" did cross my mind a few days ago...

But if theres one thing the NWN community is good at its surviving.

Oh good just noticed the patch files and offline patcher on the new Vault... **wipes brow** I think ill go park my unseen carcass over there

Unfortunatly Ive got nothing I can really contribute to the new vault thats old or needed (although I might have some odd hak or zip laying around although more than likely you've already got them).

Perhaps make a news announcement on the new Vault about the archives, what you've backed up and what you plan to do. Good communication will make sure folks don't think the place is dead. The front page of a website is one's bread and butter in keeping folks in the loop.

A good tip for anyone who has taken over a website, or plans to open one.

Very good advice, it took me a while to realize that alexandria burning on the front page was Rolo's reference to the vault burning, and not an actual new historical module

I think we who have been working over there, now that the shoe has seemed to drop, are going to be needing a lot of expertise from the entire community. This is not something one person can handle, this is the community itself which needs to come together to survive this.

But also a lot of us tend to just roll up our sleeves and just get to work, and do the best we can with what we have.

If you poke over there and notice something that needs doing, which you think you can do, we'd be more than happy to have you join us, even if you only do a small task. Actually just poking your head in, registering, and making a forum post stating who you are is quite helpful too.

Right now I am focusing on getting thru the crisis, hoping our backups are valid, that nothing is lost, and how to move things back. I do have some processing of files ( download and process the Sha1 ) which just needs you to have bandwidth and being able to leave your computer on - i am on #nwn2cr and you can friend/PM me if you think you can help.
