As someone else said, just the DNS is deleted. Perhaps temporary, you can add this line to your C:\\Windows\\System32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts file to see the nwvault. The site is not deleted!

69.10.25.55 nwvault.ign.com

Confirmed here too. Adding the above to the hosts file allows me access to the site again.

FP!

Works for me as well. Vault's still there, at least for now.

Ok, I just tested at home and it works perfectly!

Rumors of the Vaults death are thankfully a fluke !!!

To edit hosts: load notepad, open file and paste "C:\\Windows\\System32\\Drivers\\Etc\\hosts." (minus the quotes) as the filename, and it should open file for you :)

Next add "69.10.25.55 nwvault.ign.com" (minus quotes) as a new line at the bottom, save, restart your browser, and the Vault should be alive and well.

Cheers!

I'm not sure I'd bank on that. Taking it out of DNS is very likely first step towards shutting it down.
I'll be happy if this turns out just to be a messed up configuration, but I suspect it isn't...

Please do not access what remains of the vault. In doing so you are just encouraging that it be shut down more quickly. That is why I posted NESS for download. To take pressure off.

The longer the vault remains, the longer the VPP has to occassionally use it to ensure that we got everything.

DNS removal usually means the site is marked for death or is being migrated to a new server. Either way we'll find out for sure in a few days.

If you go to the hub for the Vault, vault.ign.com/ you can see that no Vault site except NWN has gotten any updates in a very long time, years even.

It's marked for death.

Okay, so not sure if the best place to post this is here, or at the new site, but just some questions:

1) Presumably, there is so import process that is taking all content from NWVault and migrating it to the new site? If not, god save the person doing it by hand...

2) During this migration, will all the comments, ratings, votes, etc., be carried over? Or will it be starting from a clean slate? I sort of have an attachment to my games I created years ago, and it would be a shame to lose all of that history. If so, then so be it. I'll have to do something on my own to get my history :(

3) Is this new site essentially going to have the same functionality as the old site? Votes, comments, ratings, etc.?

Excuse my ignorance, but this is coming as a shock to me, to be honest. Thankfully, I got my content off the site a year or so ago, but for me, this is coming out of nowhere...

EDIT - Err, looks like most of my questions have been answered in this blog entry. Thanks for everything that everyone is doing!

<encouraging...>

1) Phase 1 was scraping the old Vault for files, screenshots and a snapshot of the project page (including download counts, vote aggregate, awards, and the first page of comments). This was done for all projects and is complete and archived in at least three places.

2) We have a snapshot of most of that history (though my archive didn't grab multiple comment pages and hence the vote details :-P). The best thing for any individual author to do is to hand migrate their works to the new site. Set it up the way you would like it, rather than trust Otto Matic to do it right. Do not worry about metrics for now (voting & DL counts), as we'll be recovering those from the archives when we finish getting the content accessible.

3) V2 already has most of the functionality of V1, and more, besides. It will also have a completely overhauled voting/rating/karma/review system... Eventually.

Mission 1: preserve what we got.

Upshot of all that? Register, upload your projects, join in the forums & help us shape the new Vault.

Guys, I don't know if it's just me or what, but it looks like the DNS issues with the original vault are solved Switching to Vault 2.0 anyway, just in case it really burns itself in the future.

Edit: It works apparently, it's slow as the nine hells, but it loads.

I have just found out that  http://nwvault.ign.com/ is back to working fully again for me too.
And it's also running very smoothly for me too. Though sometimes it will be quite slow.

@ "henesua" and "Tarot Redhand" Thanks a lot for your very helpful replies. :)
I have taken in both of your advice and info. When I get a spare few mins I can register on the new neverwinter vault site and introduce myself e.t.c.

I've had a quick check of the afore mentioned 2 other game links at the original
site - Warhammer and Vanguard. It appears those 2
are still down. But I've never played them myself. So It doesn't really
affect me, gladly.

It's really good that there is a new
neverwinter vault, and I'm sure people have been working hard to try and
salvage as much as they can and transfer a lot of stuff across there so I can have a look around and grab something I like. (which for me is mostly story modules and haks made by the very clever community) It means that in future there won't be a problem if they ever decide to cut off acccess to us at the original IGN Neverwinter Nights Vault with no initial warning.

Even though I have picked up and enjoy playing new games over the years, Neverwinter Nights 1 will always be my first love of fantasy gaming.B)

even if the Vault is back for now a back up (and eventual replacement) is critical. The underlying issues with Atari, rights, and IGN's concern or lack thereof for NWN means the future is best held by the community as much as is practicable.
The Vault coming back online is like an engine that's making a bad noise suddenly quiets back down, shortly after that's when a rod comes through the side of the block...

Greetings.
I'm a Spanish user of this forum. I've just registered in. Sorry if I can not make myself very understandable and for my poor english.
I've read the thread about the near closure of the IGN Neverwinter Vault. You're not the only who are worried about this possibility; other people as I, to the other side of the Atlantic are anxious about this issue.
¿Does anybody know how much space in GBs occupies all the NWN Vault? I ask this because I'm trying to download a WHOLE BACKUP of the entire IGN web with the WinHTTrack app. I already have download up to 5GB and it still keeps on working.
I hope this question don't bother anybody.
I would be thankful if you could clear up my doubt.
Centimano.

From the recent back up, they reported it at about 400Gb.   http://neverwintervault.org/

It however looks like the vault is not going anywhere from OTR's recent post.  Rumors of NWVault's death greatly exaggerated. Info from IGN:

Approximately 400 GB, The Vault backup team already has a complete backup, so you do not have to worrry about it.
neverwintervault.org/

Aproximadamente 400 GB, el equipo de apoyo Bóveda ya tiene una copia de seguridad completa, por lo que no tiene que worrry respecto.

Ok, I understand. I'm absolutely IMPRESSED. I estimated that it could occupy around 20-30 Gb, at most.
Anyway, I'm still worried. The vault is too important to dissapear someday; it's a site that must survive over the years. It may last at least 20 years and I'm not joking. It's a extremely important repository. And I tell the same about other pages, such as sorcerers.net, pocketplane.net, gibberlings3.org and others. At least I have downloaded the two first, entirely.
Does anybody know how many years is the NWN Vault planified to go on? I feel somewhat desperate, sorry.
I have nightmares thinking about the possibility of entering one day internet and realize that all this precious material is forever lost.
Maybe, in the future, if you want, I could hold one of the backups or maybe help some other way.

For the rest, thank you very mucho for your responses.

Centimano.
