Has anyone else realised that in ME3 the Normandy no longer has a First Officer? THE RIKER IS MISSING!!! In Mass Effect 1 we had Pressly in this role and in Mass Effect 2 it was Miranda, but in Mass Effect 3 the Executive Officer is absent. I can't believe its taken me 15 months to notice this. Yes, we all know the reasons for this. Skeleton crew, rushed escape from Reaper invasion, blah blah blah. No time to pick one.

But who would fit the role best in the game? As in people who are actually on board the ship during the game. Who could assume command in your absence and be the butt of numerous Star Trek No. 1 gags?

Personally I would go with Liara. I suspect most would go with Garrus but he seems more like the Tactical Officer to me. I say Liara because she's there from the start and helps co-ordinate efforts between Normandy, Hackett and the Council. Also being the Shadow Broker she's good and managing people and resources.

Needs to Systems Alliance military, therefore it would probably be Adams.

Liara would make sense but she's also not Alliance personnel. Adams is probably the next highest ranking Alliance officer that's guaranteed to be there, so I'd go with him

Neither Garrus nor Liara belong to the Earth Systems Alliance Navy.Posted Image

The VS is the most likely candidate for XO because Ashley is a Lieutenant Commander and Kaidan is a Major.

Though in the VS's absence, the XO is probably either Adams, Chakwas, or Joker.

I'm pretty sure that Joker, Adams, Vega and Cortez are all equal rank, but Adams is presumably the most experienced (based on age) so probably him.

Although, there probably isn't one. The Normandy took off in a hurry, they didn't have time to formally announce a second officer, and with everything that's going on on Earth they wouldn't have bothered to do the paperwork.

Liara has hijacked the XO office. It's a unique war. May as well be her.

Miranda can think she was my XO in ME2 all she wants but the truth is Garrus was. This didn't change in ME3. The VS was not officially part of my chain of command once they became a Spectre.

Don't care. I'm a Spectre and it's my ship. If I say they're the XO they're the XO.

That's true. Even in ME1, you could tell that one Admiral at the Citadel to ****** off if you want. It's a Spectre ship now. You could be flippant with Hackett too.

All things considered, Garrus would be my XO, Alliance Navy be damned. At this point, he's one of the most experienced soldiers (and leaders) aboard the ship other than Shepard.

Most likely is Adams.

In TOS Trek for example, Scotty was after Spock in the command structure.

Probably Edi- Generally the XO stays on the ship when the captain is off the ship, and who better to fill that role than Edi?

Javik's airlock policy makes his candidacy for XO kinda questionable.

Based on who we see in-game, I would choose Lt. Gregory Adams. He would understand standard protocal and be able to keep the Alliance personnel in-line.

Adams also does not go out on the field just as Pressly didn't in ME1 and Miranda doesn't in ME2. Well, at least when the game doesn't make me use her on missions.

As XO, they are needed on the ship ... not running around with Shepard. At least in my MEU ... others can play however they want.

I'm fairly certain my fish form the true Council of Commanding Offices.

Probably nobody....

I feel like ME3's Normandy crew is as "rag-tag" as it's ever been. Traynor and Cortez practically just assumed their roles because they were on the Normandy at the time of invasion and its what they were good at. The whole war room is filled with Alliance personnel that Joker "didn't want to just throw out the airlock" (paraphrased obviously)

Garrus is my Shepard's XO. He's been at her back since the start and she trusts her Garbear with her life.

I don't give a crap if he isn't Alliance; the Normandy is my Shepard's ship and she's a Spectre so the Alliance can stuff it.

I think Joker & EDI run the ship with Shepard on Comm...
I'd say EDI is the acting XO...

Liara?  The blue squidhead xeno wench would be at the bottom of my list for XO candidates.

I'd figure it'd be Adams, he's not only qualified with rank and experience, he was also an expert on the original Normandy's systems.  Garrus would be my second choice with his experience and calm in a heated situation...but he's neither human nor is he with the Alliance which would be the unavoidable roadblock.

Vega I would view as a security chief, leading the Marine contingent on board the Normandy.  At least there SHOULD be a Marine contingent on board a Navy vessel, especially one that suffered a catastrophic event when it was boarded last.

As for Joker...he's the pilot, no more no less.

My Shepard refuses to appoint one, for a variety of reasons. So for me, there is no Executive Officer of the Normandy in ME3.

Your Shepard is a silly one.  Who takes command when Shepard is out on a mission/incapacitated/off duty?  Shepard can't be there to do everything all the time, there has to be a second in command.
