I was lookign to get a new inexpensive computer set up decent for gaming. I was looking at newegg:

www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx

then I saw this:

www.walmart.com/ip/iBUYPOWER-Black-Gamer-Extreme-WA932SLC-Desktop-PC-with-Intel-Quad-Core-i5-3570-Processor-8GB-Memory-1TB-Hard-Drive-and-Windows-8-Operating-System-M/21907349

which is comparable more to this in price:

www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx

the walmart one has a better VC and a chip that can be overclocked easily....(i think)

\\Opinons?

I like having the ability to go over and grab/return at Walmart.

No time/space to build my own, btw....

I'm not really up to date with video cards but I would advise that you look up benchmarks for the ones in these machines since the video card will be the largest factor in gaming performance.

As far as RAM is concerned, 16 GB is way more than most people need. I have 8 GB in my machine and I don't often use more than 6 GB of that, and when that does happen I am doing a ton of stuff simultaneously or I'm video editing.

For the Walmart one, my big concern is that it doesn't give any details about the hard drive so it may be POS leading to longer load times and possibly a shorter hard drive life.

What you really should do before you make a decision is go through part by part and compare between the three.

The walmart one can't be OC'd unless it is the K series, which I don't think it is.

I could never recommend an "inexpensive" prebuilt, there are always going to be parts that could be much better if you did it yourself for the same price or less. They are skimping in more than one area to cover the overhead. The same is true for expensive prebuilt PC, but at least you are getting quality components.

It hasn't been updated for Haswell yet, but never piece together a new PC without reading TechReport.com's current System Guide.

I'm asking this because honestly IDK but do you need to overclock on most games? Also if so are you going to need liquid cooled CPU etc or just a better CPU fan?

Go here and take a look at what other people are putting together for the same type of money.

Call around to local computer shops and see what they charge to put one together, if you supply all the parts. It may cost you the same, but at least you know exactly what is inside.

Liquid cooling is not necessary for normal OC'ing, but an aftermarket cpu cooler would be. The stock ones will not be able to keep up. I haven't got into the OC'ing yet, but I am running an i5-3570k with a gtx 660 and ME3 plays on the highest settings (1920x1080) at 60fps.

The Walmart one looks okay. OC'ing isn't for the faint of heart anyway. A good Intel CPU + a so-so Geforce GTX650. Personally, I'd go with a GTX660 or 660Ti to future-proof it a bit.
:wizard:

Edit: For gaming, the CPU isn't the bottleneck.  The video card is more important.

I would choose the one from Walmart. Good CPU, it's a NON-k i5, so it's more difficult to OC than the K version, also how much you can OC will depend on the MB chipset. It's seems the case has good air flow. Problem is they don't give any information about MB, PSU, HDD and RAM quality.

PS sorry for my english.

thanks for all the replies.

I have spec'd out a DYI system in the past, and it came in at 650-750 for a nice system. I honestly jsut don't have the time anymore for build your own, and from what Iv'e read and looked at, it is borderline worth it anymore anyway. And while I agree it is nice to know everything, you are getting, the lolwalmart package i think is a nice start with some solid components. I will prob upgrade the PSU and GPU eventually, but for a year or two I think it'll do fine.Ill take my chances with the HD....

I prob won't overclock anyway - it isn't an issue + the CPU is a bit better.

thanks - i will prob upgrade enentually, but this card is far far better than what I have now (and the computer), so it'll be a massive improvment.

I just did a quick check of what it would cost me to start to build it with the known compenents (but obviously not everything) - tiger direct or newegg:

219
chip

135
gpu

85.2
MB

40
psu

90
win 7

80
ram

649.2

just doesnt make sense to build, for me anyway.

I didn't read which OS the Walmart PC came with. If it's Win8, check out stardock software's site. They've got a $5 app that basically gives you back a familiar Win7 desktop, so you can launch Origin and ME3 multiplayer very quickly instead of that horrible Win8 interface.
(There - now this is a multiplayer related thread.)

I'll ignore all the previous replies and just tell you about my experience.  My newest PC is the first time ever that I was simply too busy with work to build one myself (what with all the DOA parts it can take time), so I shopped around for the best place to order.  Let me tell you that ibuypower is fantastic.  Their customer service is absolute ****, and it will take a month for you to get your computer, but they will build you an awesome machine.  I recommend ordering directly from their site, so you get all the free upgrades they include.

Also get yourself a small SSD as your primary drive and a large HD as your data drive.  It works great.

Edit: also if you build on their site you can specify which OS comes with it.

thanks for the word. I am rethinking if i by from walmart, of getting a $500 version with a cheap VC and AMD processor, and then speding $250-300 right away on a PSU and mid-high GPU.

If you're going to spend that much on a GPU/PSU I'd say get at least a 2 gig card.

If your main concern is playability of ME3 MP, then you need to look into the minimum system reqs. to play the game under conditions you find acceptable.

If you want maximum bang-for-buck then, and I hate to suggest this, you might want to go with a console.

I admit, I'm master race, but I also game with top-of--the-line Alienware, because I can afford it.

You are right. Might as well get an ivy bridge then, since the gaming performance will be better on the Ivy Bridge.

Lol alienware. Well OP, I would say you don't need the best configured PC for gaming. $700-800 will fit the bill for normal gaming. You won't be able to crank the details all the way up, but it will still be pretty good.
