I find the lack of Destroyer/Venom videos disturbing.

Here's one I did yesterday.

Great work. will definitely give it a read/watch.
People seem to be growing very fond of the venom. Don't get me wrong it's a great weapon dps wise and utility wise, but it was never this popular.

Yup, I see it being used every once in a while these days.
I use it ALL THE TIME :P

I made the thread back when it came out and people said it was garbage, because I couldn't believe it. At least it moved up to trash by now

It's the gun's versatality that makes me love it. Weapons class or power class, doesn't matter - the venom fits the bill perfectly. And ofc, that ragdoll... :D

I tried out a couple of the builds on Gold today. I wasn't terribly optimistic as my Venom was only level I, and I just don't have very many Incendiary Rounds. I ran the batarian Soldier, the Krogan Sentinel and the Krogan Warlord. Enjoyed the BatSol the most.

But I saw a lot of success with the Venom I, and the RNG saw fit to give me a Venom II after it was all said and done. Will try the N7 Slayer build tomorrow.

Just played a game with the krogan shaman using a venom build. Incendiary ammo, stagger everything with the venom, running into groups of enemies with the venom charged up and releasing a few shots into the crowd, shockwave, fire explosions, warp + biotic explosions for bosses. This build is very effective and very fun, would recommend it very highly, I urge more people to try this one out.

If you feel adventurous, put on an omniblade and and strength enhancer and spec fitness for full melee and try to smack around a few enemies.

Venom is good.

Even though I've always maintained that the venom is a bad weapon, I'm now seriously questioning this opinion. Because earlier, I played a gold game using a venom build which was so destructive it blew my mind.

Destroyer specced 66653: devastator mode (weapon accuracy, rate of fire, damage bonus), hawk missile (shield penalty, refire time, hydra missiles), frag grenades (radius, damage, grenade count), weapon damage and power damage on the passives. You can max out passives if you can manage with a zero fitness build.

Weapons: venom as the primary weapon, you can equip any other weapon (I used typhoon with heavy piercing barrel). Incendiary 4, shotgun rail amp 3, grenade capacity, and cyclonic modulator.

If score means anything, I scored 296k on gold with this build. The thing that really amazed me is how I was able to play the destroyer as a walking bulldozer, literally. Just mowing down enemies and destroying entire spawns very quickly. The trick is to always keep the venom charged, keep running around looking for enemies and release the venom when you are confronted with a spawn. The hawk missile launcher is always active in the background, doing its thing.

I'm not sure how well this build works on platinum. But for those people who play mostly on gold, you must try this build, it's extremely powerful. You can never ever get staggered, so you're basically a bulldozer. The damage is ridiculous. You don't need good aim. And the venom does high damage against brutes/ravagers and bosses on gold.

Works best against cerberus, reapers and geth. Haven't tried it against collectors.

Go out and try this.

Hmm, curious to try this. But would you say that it does well because of the gun/class combo, or mainly because of lolcendiary Ammo IV? Would it do well with other ammo types?

Incendiary rounds play a huge part, I really wouldn't recommend any other ammo type for the venom. If you can afford to use them, incendiary rounds are always the best for the venom. But his main selling points are:

1) He cannot be staggered at all when devastator mode is active, which means you can go around moving and destroying stuff without having to worry about getting staggered.

2) His multifrag grenades are extremely destructive against groups of sub-boss enemies, and they synergise really well with the incendiary venom. Make sure to spec the grenades for radius and grenade count. Shoot enemies with incendiary venom to prime them, then when you hit them with multifrags, you get a fire explosion. You should spam your grenades as much as you can, make sure you deplete all of your thermal clip packs by the end of the game to get the most out of your grenades. Of course, the best maps will always be Jade/White/Goddess/Rio/Dagger hazard etc, because of the grenades.

Gold is full of low tier enemies and that's where this build really shines.

Also, just noticed that this build is mentioned in the opening post, except they recommend to spec out of devastator mode. I really wouldn't recommend that, you definitely want devastator mode because it provides you with 30% damage bonus and stagger immunity. I would definitely recommend a 66653 build. This is a bit of a hipster build, but it's extremely destructive on gold.

This thread spurred me to give the Venom a whirl -- indeed, it's a fun an effective weapon(and the sound effects are hilarious). But, I certainly don't want to use it to the exclusion of all other weapons. So, venom experts -- could you list what you think are the most optimal kits to use it on? For instance, I found good synergy with flamer kits (Vorcha, GT). Is it an illusion to say the venom with disrupter rounds is an alternative to shield stripping with the acolyte?

I'll mention one kit per class, which in my opinion, is exceptionally suited for the Venom:

Adept: Drell
Soldier: Batarian
Engineer: QME
Sentinel: Krogan
Infiltrator: Drell
Vanguard: Slayer (didn't wanna say Drell again :P)

Regarding the bolded part: It will of course not outperform an Acolyte in terms of shield-stripping per shot, but it applies the ammo very well and you can get TB's off is. Shields become less annoying. You might even want to try Phasics on it, but you'd loose the TB option then.

It's good if not great on every character.

Leland how many shotgun 3s do you have left?

Yeah, hopefully, all the human sacrifices I have made to the all-powerful Arengee will reward me with more Venom upgrades and incendiary ammo...

But even without that, it is fun to send Phantoms flying and to know that their booty-jets will not help them to land on their feet ever again.
