The vault as we know it is dead, DNS was shut down.

However http://neverwintervault.org is alive and well, and we HAVE everything on the old vault on our hard drives ( been preserving it for when this day happens )

However I Could use some help processing the vault data - hop onto nwn2cr or friend / message me if you want to help. I have automated tools that can process the thousands of projects, but need a lot of processing power and bandwidth ( ie bodies willing to run my application ).

( we have the files all archived, but we need to get them migrated to the API I've built before they are usable by the community again, the module listing in Never Launcher is an example of this API, so this is not just preserving, this actually migrates to the new system )

If you can host a Vault Storage API server, and happen to have a lot of bandwidth, I can get you a rsync of the complete vault which will be usable with the vault API itself. I already have many features of downloader accelerators and if I can get multiple mirrors, i can actually download one file from 5 servers at the same time, lowering both bandwidth to any one server, and also speeding it up for end users.

I am thinking the small files will use this system, and the very massive files which are popular we will try to find places to download from which do not have limits ( file sharing for example or hosted by the projects themselves ) My system will provide fail over support, everything is in the Vault Storage API, and coordinating where you download from and ensuring we never get dead links.

Regardless the usage of checksums ensures all files are exactly what was provided by the authors.

That's just great. Would have been nice if they had at least sent an email so we could grab the comments and pictures. And the Nexus breaks all of the links. And Bioware broke the old forums.

Honestly I've had it with depending on other people for my content. I'm just going to go back to hosting my mods on my own website. I've found that well-intentioned though they may be at the time using other websites is too much of a hassle for too little benefit. When I'm dead I'm not going to care that my mods are no longer available.

Good luck with your new vault.

Regards

Well we have it all ( vault preservation project ) and we have been trying to sound alarms, asking people to register, etc - making comments that the vault is going to be going down. IGN though was not exactly giving us a timeline, sounded like we had a year, so did not want to exaggerate things too much - but also knew it could be any day.

And now it is going to be run by the community, not by some big corporation or third party, but by members of this community ( and paid up thru 5 years ).

The comments, pictures, etc are all preserved and being migrated as we speak, anything that was on it will be restored as it was, perhaps even better since we are not limited to what the vault wanted.

The vault seems to be working again. Maybe its death was exaggerated.

It is a delay only in the plug being pulled.

The reason we have been working for the last two months on preserving it, and the new site, is because the vault could go under any day now. But it's not an archive, we are trying to preserve the community of modders and keep things going.

The fact it is back up lets us proceed in an orderly manner to the exits, checking for our luggage on the way out. We can keep using it, just as long as we understand we need to be moving towards something more stable.

No i don't want to hammer the nails in the coffin, but likewise i don't want to have any of the content on the vault not mirrored on neverwintervault.org on the day of it's demise.

Of course if you don't want to listen to me...

The currently active projects include IGN ( and the vault is in that list )  with an unknown date announced in February.

<digging through...>

We have them. Archived, anyway... Will try to get them up after the community stuff I'm doing this weekend.
