The Vault is Dead - Long Live the Vault

However http://neverwintervault.org is alive and well, and we HAVE everything on the old vault on our hard drives ( been preserving it for when this day happens )
However I Could use some help processing the vault data - hop onto nwn2cr or friend / message me if you want to help. I have automated tools that can process the thousands of projects, but need a lot of processing power and bandwidth ( ie bodies willing to run my application ).
( we have the files all archived, but we need to get them migrated to the API I've built before they are usable by the community again, the module listing in Never Launcher is an example of this API, so this is not just preserving, this actually migrates to the new system )
If you can host a Vault Storage API server, and happen to have a lot of bandwidth, I can get you a rsync of the complete vault which will be usable with the vault API itself. I already have many features of downloader accelerators and if I can get multiple mirrors, i can actually download one file from 5 servers at the same time, lowering both bandwidth to any one server, and also speeding it up for end users.
I am thinking the small files will use this system, and the very massive files which are popular we will try to find places to download from which do not have limits ( file sharing for example or hosted by the projects themselves ) My system will provide fail over support, everything is in the Vault Storage API, and coordinating where you download from and ensuring we never get dead links.
Regardless the usage of checksums ensures all files are exactly what was provided by the authors.

For the less technically inclined, what exactly does this involve, and how much computing resources/bandwidth does it use?

You can stop running it whenever, basically downloading pieces - heavy usage. ( the entire vault is about 400 gigs )
I am monitoring my ISP's usage meter as I go, but it depends on how fast of a connection you have. No one can afford to do 400 gigs, but trying to get as many involved as i can.

How long does the process take to complete registration and get a password to login with?

Spam filter? New vault is swamped right now, but don't worry, Pain, Rolo Kipp and a number of other people are working on things. Rolo will assuredly see your post and see what happened.Thayan wrote...

@ Thayan: Activated you about 30 seconds after you registered :-(
Will reset your password... Friend me here and pm?
Edit: as of this morning all but a very few new accounts have been activated within minutes of registering. About half of those have logged in. If you are having problems, friend me and pm me (I won't be offended if you withdraw said mandatory friendship later :-P )

Dark (of the German PW) registered that username quite a while ago. And that is the username he has on the old Vault, sfai remember.
My mail logs are showing the one-time registration emails are going out and out of a hundred or so, only three have bounced back.
If you don't want to navigate through the BSN friend/PM system, use the contact form at the Vault to pm me...

Spot checking some of the accounts that haven't logged in most of them appear to have hotmail emails... This is looking like a trend.
@ Dark: What can I say? I've been asking people for *months* to register their usernames... Dark did. But Dark didn't... How do I resolve this? (serious Q, btw. How *should* I resolve this?).
'Cuz it is sure to happen again :-P

The first time I had any idea there was a problem is when the site went down, and I just chalked that up to being maybe a network issue or outage for a day or so. After 4 days of being down, I checked here see what’s going on and found this posting about the site being down permanently. Please don’t assume everyone knew this was coming, because I sure didn’t.
BTW, I made an account with darks. Ill just live with that. He got there first so that how it goes!

just to be clear, the vault is sunset, no more updates, no more fixes, no more effort. It is going the way of history sometime during the next year. Hopefully it stays up as an archive for a while, but it's days are numbered.

@ LM: Good idea, I don't know about a final update (they really don't tell me anything). But it seems I *am* the only Vault admin who bothers to update :-P Posted a sticky.
@ SH: We are working on copying all the great stuff (and not so great) to Vault 2.0. None of it will be lost. But at least now you know why I've been so slow adding your stuff to the CCC :-P
Please do register. I've already had one username collision and would prefer to avoid more, if possible :-P
Did you guys know rolokipp and rolo.kipp are both taken on gmail? I mean, who would willingly want my name?! Sheesh!
